Hi,

I've been researching these fab boards for a week or so now......bought a tent....decided to take it to France for 10 days in July....just need to plan it now! If you can answer any of my questions or offer further advice I'd be forever grateful!

I haven't booked anything yet so I'm reasonably flexible,

We've got time off work from 11th July for 2 weeks, we live up north (NW) and we are planning to book with speed ferries, Dover to Boulogne as the journey is only 50 mins (I get terrible motion sickness so the faster the better!) oh and it's very reasonable. Thing is should we drive down the night before and get the early morning ferry at 7.45, meaning a stay overnight somewhere or do we leave very early and get the afternoon ferry then stay overnight nr Boulogne, or do we do it all in one go???

What's the best time of day to get the ferry..ie quietest, how easy is it to get out of boulogne, has anyone been on speedferries?

We are planning to go to the Loire Valley  for about 6 days then outskirts of paris for the final days. Friend has recommended amboise area in Loire, any other sugggestions? Any recommendations for Paris area? friedn talked of a new area that is gret for Eurodisney and train into paris but can't recall the name.

Sorry for the huge amount of question.....

Debsx

Hi Debs

Last year we stayed at Camping de la Base de Loisirs (Jablines) - which is about 15 mins from the gates to Euro Disney & also near a train station if you fancy Paris.

We found the site on Alan Rogers guides, site number 7703. Search the web for camping Jablines.

Re the crossing, we are going Norfolk Line this year, the hover-craft is very quick, but maybe not so good for your 'sea-sickness'

Hope you enjoy.

I never go on ferries anymore, Eurotunnel always for us, so quick and easy - you don't really realise you are in a tunnel until your ears go pop!

The price on speedferries is dependant on what time you travel--to get best price you need to go last thing at night--

Hi and thanks for all your helpful advice!!!

Stuart and Jo, do you have any photo's of your site??? I'll email you after the weekend....

abers (hope you had a fab holiday!)/Gill....I'm now seriously thinking of eurotunnel, onlything putting me off is the cost, I can get speed ferries for £48 sailing at 7.45 am but I am really worried about being ill.

How easy is it at the euro tunnel terminal place??? do you stay in your car? I guess it's only just over half an hour so no need to move around much anyway.

Billybhoy, i'm sure that;s the site my friend was on about. Thanks very much!!!

Billy, yeah, it took me ages to get a reasonable price with speedferries, we're going on a mon and comming back on a wed so i guess that helped, most of there fares were £48 or £58

Can't wait to go to France!!!! spending far too much on phrase books/mags etc

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Deb

Hi,

Can't help with the campsites, but regards the crossing - Out of choice I'd also go with Eurotunnel. It's quick, easy, frequent(the biggest plus as against the ferries in my opinion) and if you miss your crossing they'll normally put you on the next one at no extra charge (unless it's a peak time crossing) It is also incredibly easy to get out the other side, whereas you get off Boulogne crossing in the middle of town, which although not difficult, can be a bit scary for the uninitiated.

Personally, I'd choose a crossing time that means any overnight stops you're doing are in France. It's cheaper than U.K. Boulogne is a nice place to stay or there are always the Formula 1s, Campaniles, etc if you want to get a bit further before stopping.

However you do it, have a great holiday.
