We have booked an early-ish return eurotunnel crossing in September and I'm looking for one overnighter that's about 1 hr. away from tunnel but is okay. Any suggestions gratefully received.
------------- 2026
Various weekends, weather and time permitting
April - Yorkshire and Yorkshire
June - Wiltshire and Oxfordshire
Autumn - North and Scotland
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I would stay closer to Coquelles.
Less stress about the 50 mile journey and a later start may mean that you have a bigger choice of sites depending on you departure time.
Which direction are you approaching from?
A good few years ago ….we regularly stopped for our last night by the beach in Calais itself at Camping Fort Lapin - to stretch our legs on the beach, to do last minute supermarket shopping, and to have dinner at the Cote d’Argent restaurant. Time has gone by but there are recent reviews of the campsite and the restaurant .
We always stay at Camping St Louis (ACSI 903) at Autingues
About 30 minutes from Tunnel, large pitches which allow you to stay hitched up.The restaurant is brilliant and not expensive and the sanitaires are heated and magnificent

It does rather depend on which direction you are coming from but a couple of times we stayed at Camping de la Maye, at Rue, its about 60 miles from Calais. There is a Carrefour Market right opposite the entrance and its quite a nice little town.
We've stayed at Camping de la Maye, and whilst it's a nice enough campsite, it's sometimes difficult to find the Warden to let you in through the barrier.

We stayed at Camping la Fontaine les Clercs in Montreuil sur mer on our way out last year - 53 min from Calais according to Google maps. Nice quiet site and there is a bakery/small shops in the village plus a fair selection of restaurants for your last night.

Hi folks,

Camping Les Epinettes at Peuplingues, nearest site of all to Eurotunnel and a lovely friendly little site.
Camping Calais Le Grand Gravelot is in Calais and I recommend it. Stayed here last year in October and only 15 mins from Tunnel. Well kept and well maintained........hope that is of some help. If you need a vet then the clinic is 5 mins walk
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
