There's.been some debate also regarding the quality of filters as some can be prone to actually being a breeding ground for contaminants
Most of the filters on the market are full of activated charcol, This is a breeding ground for bugs. It is however a very way of removing some chemicals from water, such as the chlorine compounds that water companies add to the water to keep the bacteria down. So if you don't like the taste of the chlorine use a filter. But if you think that you will remove bacteria from your water unless you change your filter every couple of hours then you are wasting your money.
Me I don't have a filter fitted to the van and I drink the water straight out of the tap and I'm still standing
thing is with us we boil the water for tea drinks anyway.the hot water heater gets to 70 degs and maintained so that's ok.for teeth cleaning and soft drinks we use bottled water.just of late we have started to fill the kettle straight from the outside tap.it does taste slightly better.there is also aqua tabs these go into the barrel and you drink it i believe.we always use site showers.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
The easiest way to stop water tasting funny after it's been through the caravan's plumbing is ... don't drink it! I generally buy a few bottles of water from Aldi (very cheap!), so we've got a supply right from arriving on site, and then refill from the drinking water tap onsite. If you're still worried then run it through a jug-style water filter.
I would never, ever habitually drink water that has been through the plumbing system; it's too big a risk.
You know, before there was a reliably safe water supply people would drink beer because the brewing process kills off bugs. Just a thought!

Hi i fitted a water filter to my ranger under the seat with activated charcoal ,it didn't make the slightest bit of difference to the taste ,in the past i have tried Milton which gave me some sucess for short periods, but reading advice on this site I used a full tub of puriclean ,that is the smallest one they do ,about £2.50 Put it in the container filled it up and charged the system left it in 2-3 hours turning the taps off and on now and again flushed it out and now it is as good as home i have been on 2 trips this season and still o.k. To be on the safe side i will be doing it again shortly.
