Getting a new van at the weekend, not had to search around for insurance quotes, the information seems to flow magically through the tinternet. Caravan Guard quoted me 340 last week, Safegaurd phoned me tonight quoted me 304. First van so don't know who's good or bad. Had a read of some discussions, caravan guard seem popular.

I had a quote today from CaravanGuard - just over £340 for van cover of £19500, accessories £2000, contents at £1000; new for old cover. My renewal with the caravan club is £321 -s o I guess I stay where I am.
Caravan Guard new for old, they phone every year at renewal time to discuss the policy and check the cover is correct. Policy does go up every year so you need to know the new price of the currant years caravan and make sure it is covered for that price and equipment.
Caravan Guard are mediocre at best when making a claim.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
For Caravanguard, I recommend generating a quote on line - then you will see all the exclusions behind the quote.
When I did this, there were so many, that I was left wondering what they actually did cover, as it appeared they would have an extraordinary amount of wriggle room in the event of a claim.
So, I walked away, and went with Towergate for less money too.
Having owned caravans for 45 years we have had several insurers. We are presently with Caravan guard and have found over the last couple of years their renewal premium new for old has hardly increased even though the caravan value has. We have been with Safeguard which we found gave a quote for the first year but jumped considerably for the second. One insurer I will not touch again Tower gate due to bad experience.
I got a decent headline quote figure from Caravan Guard, but as has been posted elsewhere, you really have to read the exclusions before you decide if is actually a `good deal`.
The one that really stood out for me was the requirement to fit a hitchlock and wheel clamp `when the van was unattended` - and yes, this does apply if you stop at the services and go for a `leak`! By the time I`d have fitted the ALKO wheel lock the `need` would have passed - one way or another.........
I once did insure with Safeguard for one year only then their quote for the following year was astronomical so I ditched them as I didn't want to give them my custom. Over the last ten years I have used two caravan insurance companies alternately which are either Caravan Guard or Saga (they will only insure if you are 50 or over). Between the two companies there hasn't been much difference in the cost of caravan insurance but I prefer Saga merely because you get through to a member of staff without all the push button malarkey before you get through to the department you need. However, an insurance company is only based on it's merits by it's efficiency and time scale involved if you ever have to make a claim but the two companies mentioned have good customer feedback with reference with those that had had to make a claim. If you are 50 or over I would consider obtaining a quote from Saga to see how competitive they are with Caravan Guard and take it from there.
