If you are coming on the ferry then it is advisable to book it in advance. If you are coming over the Skye Bridge then check that your satnav is taking you via Kyle of Lochalsh. There are no tolls on the bridge.
Dunvegan is on the North West side of the Isle of Skye (OS Landranger 23 or Explorer 410, grid ref: NG 252 472) and is on the A 863 which leaves the A 87 (Kyleakin to Portree road) at Sligachan.
From the Skye Bridge (from Kyle of Lochalsh), follow the A87 through Broadford to Sligachan. Turn left onto the A863 to Dunvegan.
From Armadale (ferry from Mallaig) follow the A 851 to Broadford the the A87 to Sligachan. Turn left onto the A863 to Dunvegan.
