From A1 south leave at J49 to join the A168 just past Dishforth Airfield (signs for Teesside and A19). Take the SECOND sign for THIRSK (signs for A170 and A19) to avoid the town centre. At the roundabout take the YORK road (A19). Continue for 3 miles South along the York road. Take the SECOND Left, signposted CARAVAN ROUTE via COXWOLD. Follow the signs for AMPLEFORTH. Immediately through Ampleforth, FORK LEFT for HELMSLEY. Golden Square is signposted, approximately 1½ miles from Ampleforth.

A number of country walks, long-distance paths, and trails begin from the park. Nearby facilities are abundant, including pony trekking over the moors, gliding at Sutton Bank, and fishing lakes at Hovingham. Visitors can also enjoy a trip to Castle Howard stately home or play a round of golf at Gilling, just 2 miles away.
Swimming options include the popular pool at Ampleforth College, which is open to the public, and the open-air swimming pool in Helmsley, available during the summer months.
