Instantly liked this site when we visited reception. Friendly, informative told us everything we needed to know. Useful suggestion that we site our small van on the grass beyond the hard standing. This meant more grass around van and no need to turn our left hand door van around. There was a relaxed vibe. The same lady checked on us when we were set up in case we had problems, great service.
Although the hard standings were full we had no problem with access to the facilities. The showers are HUGE, you could easily take the kids with you. The water temperature varied a little but you would never get scolded or frozen. The press button flow lasts a reasonable time.
The small toilet block was being redecorated, grass was being cut AND collected, troughs were having compost replaced, the owners look after this site.
There were three food vans over bank holiday weekend. We tried the pizza, very friendly couple, reasonable price, although I personally like more topping.
There are large supermarkets in Banbury only 10 mins away. Pub for a drink within walking distance. We ate at the Falcon in Warmington, great food. If you park at Riverside Long Stay in Banbury you can walk into or out of town along the canal.
We visited Rousham Park, nice gardens, small car park, no kids under 15. Canon Abass House offers all usual National Trust facilities. via mobile
What a lovely site - great welcome from the Host and instructions on getting in/leaving site toilet block etc.
Good hard standing plenty of space between pitches well laid out paths etc - superb toilets and showers clean tidy and heated
Good local footpaths to the local village which was really pretty
Onsite shop well stocked
Only downside for me, sleeping in the pop top I was aware of road noise but probably wouldn’t have been aware of it in a motor home or caravan via mobile
Actually our 3rd visit here, but the last time was 9 years ago. A pleasant site still. The facilities are a bit dated now, but clean.
There are 3 toilet cubicles in the ladies’ and 4 sinks, plus one shower. Similar in the gents’, though there are 2 other shower cubicles in the lobby to the facilities block, unisex.
All the showers are of the fixed nozzle, push button variety, but stay on a few seconds longer than I’ve experienced at other sites! Having said that, on one occasion, the spray was little more than a dribble, which made washing my hair difficult (showers busy at the time) and on another occasion, I had to keep my hand on the button as it would not stay pressed!
The shower in the ladies’ was my preference; it was also the only one with any rack for toiletries. Each shower also had a temperature control, which was better than at other sites, but even turned to maximum temperature it took a while for the water to get warm, and never too hot.
I soon discovered that the optimum place to put the black mat was in the area near the fold-down seat, so the floor area near the door stayed dry. Other people seemed to like the mat to be under the actual shower, meaning the entire floor – including the area where I would get dried & dressed was soaking wet! Some of the tiles I noticed were cracked. There were 2 hooks on the back of each door.
There was another toilet block (1 toilet & sink each for ladies & gents) in the top camping field, a decking area around it & on the opposite side, 2 washing up sinks, covered by a roof & at the sides, plus a freezer for campers; we didn’t use the freezer but did use the other facilities as our caravan pitch was at the top end of the site.
I preferred the washing up sinks there anyway, as the ones on the side of the main block were essentially in a ‘cupboard’ – very cramped & also did not have any plugs!
The facilities at the top of the site would also benefit from some pathways around it; access across the grass means trailing wet grass everywhere if it’s wet. Both washing up areas would also benefit from a bin for the disposal of any food waste, so avoiding clogging up the sinks.
The site in general would benefit from another shower block near the top of the site, particularly when the site is very busy.
There is free WIFI, but very patchy reception near the top of the site. Sometimes got a better reception by sitting in our awning or moving to an area lower down the site.
There is a one-way system around the site, and both entry and exit gates are by inputting a code, as is the entrance to the main facilities block. There is a 5mph speed limit, but not everyone appeared to stick to it!
Dogs welcome but to be kept on a lead. However, 3 or 4 times I witnessed different dogs not on a lead & roaming free, one crossing several people’s pitches & one little one – puppy perhaps – in the ladies’ toilets!
Its owner was in one of the cubicles ^ she was talking to it as it whimpered. I don’t care how young it was, on hygiene grounds, no dog (unless a guide dog) should have been taken into the toilets!
The reception has a shop for forgotten essentials and sweets etc, but on this occasion we didn’t use. Unfortunately, there is no laundry on site, but there is a laundrette in Banbury, though parking for that is awkward.
Near the main toilet block is the bin area, plus one for cardboard recycling. At the front of the main toilet block is a red telephone kiosk, now converted into a book corner! Great idea, one which we made use of, swapping some of our own we had brought and read. Opposite is a little shed with tourist leaflets, though none for The Cone Ice Cream Parlour, on Parsons Street, in Banbury! Well worth a visit!
Quite a lot of traffic noise from the adjacent A423, which is more noticeable during the night/or early hours, particularly when we heard motorbikes roaring past; some must have been doing close to a 100mph!
We had a lovely stay at Anita's. We were a group of 5 tents and had a corner of the camping (non-electric) field to ourselves, next to the sheep!
The grass was soft to pitch on, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the small shop was really useful, especially for fridge-cold drinks on a very hot weekend.
There is some road noise but it is distant and didn't bother us.
It was a bit of a walk to the toilet block and playing field (a cut-through through the hedge would be a welcome addition) but the toilets and showers themselves were clean and the building was warm.
A little more water pressure for the shower would have been nice, but it was fine. A bit more space/another sink or two at the washing up area would also be helpful.
I contacted this campsite late on a Saturday afternoon asking for a pitch that same night. They were very helpful, friendly and sympathetic to the situation I found myself in.
Check in was very swift and professional. Our hardstanding pitch was well sized, clean and fairly level.
The facilities were a bit dated, but very clean and pleasant to use. Given the close proximity of a main road to the site, it was very quiet too.
In all I was very impressed with this site and what would seem to be a hidden gem.
I would recommend and would definitely return. via mobile
My business partner and I have been staying at this site each year when visiting the nearby Fairport's Cropredy Convention - a large, family friendly music festival for those who haven't yet come across it.
We always choose Anita's either for our pre-folk festival warm-up, or o take a few days to relax after the event. I have already left two previous reviews for this site, both positive and this third review remains unchanged.
The only thing I see that some people dislike about this site is noise from the nearby-ish motorway but it's all white noise that swiftly becomes background nois, so not a problem for me personally.
We stayed in one of the larger glamping pods again and was pleased to see that a couple of minor repairs that were needed last year had been attended to.
The pod is comfortable - not luxurious but more than meets the comfort levels for eight days of "camping" especially if using a tent is no longer an option.
It's close enough to Banbury for sightseeing and food shopping, far enough away to be in the heart of the countryside and makes a great base for visiting other nearby places of interest.
The motorway makes it convenient for Oxford and London if you're happy to venture further out.
I'm looking forward to using this site again in 2024 and am always happy to recommend Anita's touring site.
Nice location, a little traffic noise but not a problem in our touring van. Easy to get to from the M40, nearby Banbury is a great town to visit.
Fairly well maintained site, rather many cobwebs in toilet/shower block and a bit dated!
I think half of the pitches are occupied by 'permanent' residents, not a problem though. Beware, I checked prices on website then paid a deposit over the phone (wasn't easy as they don't like to answer it), when I arrived I was charged considerably more, the owner 'shrugging it off' and admitting their website was out of date.
This is my second review for the camp site, and little has changed from my last review. Due to progressive disability, I don't use tents any more, so after a 2 year break, we elected to spend our holiday stay in a glamping pod.
We took on a basic pod as we have a dog and they aren't allowed in the higher rated units, sadly. Our pod was located in the corner beneath a tree which provided shade during warm days. The pod was basic but had a bunk bed, although I used a camping bed as it is more appropriate to my needs.
The pod was clean on entry, spacious and quite luxurious compared to nights under canvas. I use a wheelchair and a pair of crutches to aid mobility and the pod was easily accessible on crutches, but don't expect easy access for wheelchairs, generically they're not designed for wheeled mobility aids.
The campsite is just as clean and inviting and we felt just as much at home as on previous stays. We usually use the site for our pre-festival stay Fairport's Cropredy Convention) so this year, the site was much quieter.
Road noise has been an issue for other campers due to the promimity of the A423 and the M40, but for me personally, it was no problem at all. There is enough ambient noise to cancel out the traffic white noise. In fact, there was more noise coming from a nearby tent in the form of loud snoring!
Anita's camp site provides a great base for local sightseeing, it is close enough to Banbury, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon to make these places easily accessible by car, and if you are cycle-touring, there are some equally interesting locations locally.
There is a small cabin that holds a host of travel and sightseeing information, situated opposite the toilet block. It also doubles as a reading room. We didn't have children with us so I cannot comment on child friendliness or facilities, although the young families staying on site seemed to be happy enough.
My only gripe (and it really is a minor one), is that the shower taps only stay on for a few seconds. Push button is a good water saver but 25-30 seconds duration might offer a slightly better shower?
Overall, this was a welcome return for us to Anita's, and one we'll be repeating next year when the Cropredy folk festival returns. via mobile
