Great campsite on a working farm run by a lovely and very interesting couple. Location is stunning.
Feels like wild camping, but there are showers and toilets available built with traditional building methods near the farmhouse.
Farm produce available from the farm, as are traditional breakfasts. We didn't have the opportunity to sample those.
Camping spots are well-spaced apart and come with firepits. Firewood available from the farm. Views are fantastic. Loads of wildlife. Very dark clear skies, with minimal light pollution.
Local pub is a revived (pricey) gem, but only open Thurs to Sunday. Stunning walks from the site. Great getaway via mobile
Beautiful campsite with amazing views of the black mountain and with all the facilities you may need while still keeping its rustic charm.
Great for any animal lovers with piglets on site. Customers service from the owners was great, from helping us find our pitch to opening the on site shop so we could purchase firewood.
There is also a lovely traditional pub just five minutes walk down the road serving great food and beer.
Beautiful surroundings overlooking Black Hill. We stayed on The Church field which is a little more exposed than the flat field, but has excellent mountain views.
Campfires allowed, and welcomed in your exclusive fire pit.
Pitches are huge, which means that even with a almost single sex group on the same field there was total peace and quiet and a chance to relax. For walkers, routes are adjacent to the campsite. There is also an excellent pub within 5 minutes walk,
The Bull's head inn, serving locally sourced food (however not standard pub grub, check the website to see if your wallet will stretch to a visit).
Just a few things to be aware of. If you like things rustic, then this is just the place for you. There is a very steep, unlit walk down to the amenities, which although basic, are clean. Showers are lovely and warm. There is one space for washing up, but on the plus side, lots of fridges and a freezer to share.
The facilities a little limited compared to the amount of pitches. The water tap is located next to the shower, so would recommend bringing your water with you for convenience.
There is a compost loo in the church field, if you want to relive the toilets in festivals of your youth, then this will be just the ticket.
You might have to become acquainted anyway if the showers are occupied as the 2 flushing toilets are located in the shower rooms. Some of the younger campers used the bush instead, and I don't blame them!
We booked ahead and have a small campervan, and we had an excellent spot, which was more luck than anything, as some of the pitches looked a bit tricky for the van.
Overall the small inconveniences outweigh the fantastic views and the general loveliness of our fellow campers. via mobile
Chapel house Farm is a working farm and beautifully situated nest to Black Hill in the Black Mountains.
The site is on a hill and it can be quite a walk to the amenities.
There are three showers two of which are the most beautiful showers that I have ever seen on any camp site unlike the barrack standard one is used to on many sites.
The owners the Dales are charming. They run a tiny shop which sells some local produce. They also have the special Pizza Friday night where the Dales bake pizzas in their traditional wood fired oven. Also the Dales run chilli Monday which is great if your tarp has just blown away in a storm.
With easy access to the Wye Valley, or the Malverns, this is a fantastic spot for a back-to-nature camping escape, with all electricity generated on site. Non-electric grass pitches with fire pits for your tent or campervan, or enjoy the home comforts of various quirky wooden cabins and thoughtfully renovated shepherd's huts. Despite its offgrid feel, guests can access brand-new toilets and hot showers.
With thoughtful touches around the camping field, including planting, beautiful wild grasses, and flourishing vegetable beds, the site sits between Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Newent, providing a pick of independent shops and amenities. Pubs and cider makers are located a stroll away, and dogs are welcome. Look forward to a warm welcome from hosts Ruth, James, and their cheery canines Chaucer and Luther! Find out more here
We had such a lovely time at this remote campsite. We loved that there are only a few campers, fire pits for each pitch, lovely friendly owners, pizza night on Saturdays!
The animals were an added bonus, we were sad not to see the awaited piglets arriving but loved Elizabeth the calf with whom we shared a field!
This is a truly lovely site. Fantastic views down the valley and of the Black Hill. Not too many pitches, so very uncrowded. Hosts Simon and Anita discrete but fully on top of any issues.
Something worth anticipating is that there is a trade off between pitches with full open views, but more exposed to the weather, and pitches nestled in shelter of the trees but with less expansive views from the tent door.
The facilities were well maintained and very clean.
After many years of camping, one of the most spectacular and nicest sites we've been too.
Anita and Simon are a lovely couple, full of enthusiasm for the farm and their campsite. A truly beautiful, peaceful location, and good simple facilities. I loved the environmentally friendly way the whole place is thought out, and the unique little buildings housing the showers, washing up place and composting loo!
There are conventional alternatives for anyone squeamish, but I don’t know why you should be, communing with nature in a little shed scented with hay and lavender was perfectly pleasant, though it might be a tad chilly at colder times.
We were lucky to have the camping meadow to ourselves, but even when full, the neatly mown spaces are widely spaced around the meadow, so you would never be too close to other campers.
We had a peek into the bell tent when the only other family on site departed and it looked great, nicely thought out.
The farm is quite remote, down several miles of winding narrow lanes, and you are well away from ambient light, so we enjoyed stunning views of the Milky Way, planets and satellites on a clear night. Sitting by our fire pit, glass in hand, listening to the sheep and the occasional Tawny Owl was magic!
Took my two sons here for three nights, what a little gem of a place, very friendly welcome from Anita who took the time to help us settle in.
Toilets and shower area were kept spotless every day, great little washing up area, as well as a fridge freezer and charging points.
The views of the valley and Black mountains are beautiful. The meadow where each pitch is speciously mowed out is brilliant as this gives you loads of room and plenty of privacy. Help yourself to a fire pit and you can buy logs and some beers from their little farm shop and your all set.
We had a brilliant stay, my boys really enjoyed their stay, A big thanks to Anita and Simon for supplying such a pleasant quiet campsite.
Fantastic campsite in amazing surroundings! A big field at the foot of the Black Mountains in a secluded valley. Great mown pitches in a wildflower meadow, and good facilities: great shower, washing up - both included with the price - very friendly proprietors, and a selection of produce. I can recommend the cider with elderflower. And the amber ale, come to think of it! You feel very valued and welcomed in this gem of a campsite. I was even lucky with the weather: sun evening and morning, and fabulous stars at night, as you are miles from any town. Highly recommended.
