If you heading towards this site, certainly take a look at the recommended directions prior, you must enter from Elms lane (Ragleth Inn), as the other lane is extremely narrow.
When you arrive, go to the first house, there is a small sign telling you this, but you probably won't see it, as no reception hut in sense of to refer too. Pam and Oscar run the site and were very welcoming.
The setting & location is good, a couple of pubs (Ragleth inn & green dragon), 5 minute walk, both do excellent food & decent ales.
Transport there are hourly buses to Shrewsbury & Ludlow, from the bus stop 5 minute walk, next to the Ragleth Inn. Church Stretton is 1. 3 miles away there is nice shops, pubs, restaurants and a co op convenience store.
The campsite is set in a dell, between hills, I found the campsite site WiFi kept dropping out, Vodafone 4G signal very intermittent. TV signal gave up with that couldn't get any, but got DAB Radio OK.
The cost per night for a Campervan with EHU is £27, you don’t get charged if you don’t use EHU.
The pitches, all grass (no hard standing), have electric, some can be slanted. The side I was, I only had my smaller ramps, but they weren't quite enough to get entirely level, if you on the side (left as you come in), you will need big height ramps, to achieve level. If you are by the stream side those pitches more level, you'd get away with smaller ramps. The owners want to pitched up correctly, so ensure you get it correct, (refer to the welcoming email instructions).
Noise levels, the sound frequency seems to travel very far on the site especially at night, even a slightest noise at night you can hear, even if on the other side of the site, I think this is to do with the Dell environment. One party had a baby which kept crying could here that clearly. These noises didn’t wake me up or keep me awake, but could could hear them.
There is some decent walks nearby straight off the site, though they are hilly and rocky in places, you'll require decent footwear.
The male shower & toilet block. One is quite behind the times which reminded me of 80s school ones, (you'd know what I mean if you saw them). One of the showers is terrible poor water pressure, then when someone flushed any toilet, you got the scalding hot & freezing cold water effect, only for it to be repeated quickly again, when someone flushed the toilet again. I advise, (if you can get it), go for the left side one, recently modified shower, toilet & sink all in one place, this was my go to shower.
My concern would be, what would these facilities be like in high demand, as only 2 male showers, 3 toilets for the entire site (Males this is). At the weekend you could start seeing the frequency rise and some mornings I had to wait for a shower, not getting straight in.
The washing up, 2 sinks both in open air, have hot water, but pressure is poor, again this reduces when someone flushes the toilet, so it took a while to fill the sink.
All in all a lovely site, just requires more modern facilities and slightly more toilets and showers.
Visited for just one night, but was enough to get the measure of this little gem of a site.
Has everything we want from a site; great walks therefrom and nearby pubs.
It's a beautiful setting with natural sounds aplenty. The village of Little Stretton has an old-world charm about it.
All the pitches have EHU, but they don't charge you for EHU if you can't use it, which is reasonable. We paid £29 for the van, 2 adults, one under-15 and a dog.
Pam and Oscar are a friendly couple who clearly care about the site and the campers that use it. They are quite specific about how one should park on the pitch, but they are quite right to do so as it means everyone gets full use of the generously-sized pitches.
The facilities were clean and in working order. I'm not sure there are enough loos to cover a full site in high season.
No fire pits are allowed, at least nothing burning wood.
Will definitely go back.
Like other sites in the area, you can book online with no deposit and just pay when you arrive.
Tucked away down a lane over a ford, but handy for two pubs and with lovely scenery all around.
Church Stretton is close with interesting shops to browse around.
Site has level pitches, well-mown grass, facilities are clean and a stile leads to pleasant walks up the valley - useful, as well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
When I visited it was mostly camper vans, with a couple of small touring caravans and a few tents.
A hint - if you don't want too much coming and going by your pitch, ask not to be allocated pitches 15 or 16 when you book, as they are either side of the stile.
Good for walkers, bird-watchers and anyone fancying a bit of peace and quiet.
A soundscape of running water in the stream, rustling trees, bleating sheep and assorted birdsong is very relaxing.
For gardeners, Pam and Oscar's garden is a good example of what can be achieved on a steep slope!
I'd certainly go back- can't say fairer than that.
What a beautiful little site. The entrance down a narrow lane and through a ford was so pretty. Oscar greeted us and showed us to our pitches, explained where to find all the facilities.
Very quiet and peaceful.
The showers were a little dated but worked perfectly.
A 5 minute walk into the village where there are 2 pubs both serving great food and also the local bus stop to Ludlow & Shrewsbury. via mobile
This is one site I really didn’t want to leave. We had amazing weather, the views and location are out of this world. Everything on the site is so well kept, neat and tidy. We paid £27 per night for a motorhome and EHU which isn’t unreasonable at all for what it had to offer,
Pam was very welcoming and went out of her way to ensure we had a great time, she was so friendly and helpful. Always stopped for a chat if we were sat out and offering local advice if we needed it.
The facilities are rustic and absolutely spotless.
I went mid June and mid week. It was full of people who clearly just wanted what I did, beautiful peaceful surroundings. One evening, the site was almost full and all you could hear was wildlife and the occasional sheep. I’m sure anyone there was just sitting outside chatting quietly between themselves. But I couldn’t hear them at all.
I only went for a short, flat walk but it was so pretty, I gather there are several from the site and fairly challenging but they must have the most amazing views.
I did road cycle and the surrounding area is understandably hilly but lovely quiet lanes with breathtaking views. I hear there are many great challenging off road routes too,
Maybe during school holidays the site attracts families more but there are no ball games allowed and no playground so probably more suited to families with older children.
There are 2 pubs very close by, I only ate in one which was fabulous but I gather they are both extremely good, so best to book.
It was the most perfect holiday and I am definitely going back again, this year I hope🤞🤞.
I am a walker so for me this site meant "location, location, location" It is located right in the middle of the Shropshire Hills which is a beautiful part of the Country.
Indeed 2 footpaths go through the site which lead up to, or down from the high ground of the Long Mynd, both routes are steep and challenging but well worth it.
Its not just the immediate area that is gorgeous however, wherever you go in this area you will find fantastic countryside, beautiful villages and cracking pubs, on the subject of which there are 2 in the village a short walk away.
Church Stretton is about 1. 5 miles away and has a nice mix of shops, pubs, a chippy, petrol station and railway station from where you can travel to Shrewsbury, Ludlow or beyond for the day.
About the site itself: it nestles in a short little valley with high ground on 3 sides (so don't expect a TV signal) but this makes the site very quiet and peaceful, there is a good phone / data signal.
It is a grass field gently sloping a the bottom of which runs a small brook. There are sufficient toilets and showers which are cleaned every day and are pleasant to use. There are all the usual disposal facilities.
Costs may seem high especially the charge of £4 per night for awnings and £4 for a 10amp hook up on top of the pitch fee but for me it was the location that made it worth it.
I only spoke briefly to the owner, Oscar, and he seemed friendly and asked me for feedback which is unusual and shows he cares what his visitors think.
That's it really a small family owned site in an absolutely lovely location which siuted me down to the ground, of course it may not suit all.
The campsite was lovely and in a beautiful location. The owners were so helpful, even advising on the OS map on local paths.
The placing of large mats placed around the van to keep things nice and dry inside (and apparently to assist departing vehicles in times of wet ground) were a first, and much appreciated.
