 We had a lovely stay, the setting of the site is amazing and we like the idea of it being a community run venture.
We'd mistakenly chosen the wrong pitch but the guy on duty was happy to change it for us (even though he was locking up and leaving for the day).
The only tiny downside would be the toilet block and washing up facilities which were a little basic however I appreciate that it is kept clean and that renovating it would take up valuable funds.
Great walks up or down the estuary and the garden at Broughton House is worth a visit.
The seafood van at the quayside is a must.
We'll hopefully be back in the future.

This is now regular stop for us, the site management was taken over by the community several years ago and is very well run.
The manager is not here full time, but is here for enough hours during the day.
The online booking service is great so you can book the pitch of your choice. Facilities may be dated, but immaculately clean.
Lovely town to walk round 5 minutes away and a few local walks particularly in the woods behind the campsite.
It can be very windy in it's elevation so consider the pitch to choose and whether to erect an awning.

Still one of our favourite sites, that we return to regularly. Fabulous carpets of native bluebells in the woods at this time of year, beautiful.
Staff on site mid morning to mid afternoon. Now ?35 pn, all year - even Bank Holidays, Hogmanay etc. This includes hardstand or grass & awning (easy PYO pitch at booking); free EHU; good Wi-Fi; free showers; pay nothing extra for dog(s) - and all on leads - with plenty of places to walk them; security barrier, code by email the day before you arrive;
Take-aways & pubs & sheltered working harbour nearby;
Play area & kick-about field next door (youngsters do congregate here, but they?re all polite & quiet); and dark night skies for star gazing.
The town's website lists events all year, some with fireworks.
A few suggestions: if MH, chunky chocks or ramps are needed on many pitches. Bring a torch - the site lights are motion activated & can be slow to react. And note the A755 Dee Bridge in town is closed to MHs & caravans due to weight restrictions & a narrow chicane at both ends; ANPR too.

Lovely, quiet site with great views across the town. Great base to explore from.
The town is a short walk away and has a couple of great bakeries along with a chemist, post office, tesco and lots of independent shops.
We used the washing machine (£4) and tumble drier (£1 for 30 mins) along with a communal washing line.

Lovely site situated above the town, with views over the town and bay.
Was greeted by a member of staff and shown to a really large pitch where we could position our van overlooking the town.
Easy walk into the town which had various shops and cafes with a few dog friendly pubs.
Nice wooded area directly from site to walk dogs in and a playing field for kids to run around.
Toilets were always clean and warm. Some lovely beaches nearby to exercise the dog.
Easy reach of bigger towns like Dumfries.

Very well organised online booking process.
Pitch number and gate code supplied in advance.
Large hardstanding pitches and adequate clean facilities. Very short walk through the park to the lovely town.
Good dog walk through the woods behind the site.
Was our favourite site on a ten day tour of Scotland

Friendly site on hill only 400m or so to lovely town. Community owned with basic but clean and well functioning facilities.
Reception open unpredictably so book online - pick your pitch - all ok. Great community kids play area adjacent - wood walks with red squirrel hide opposite.
Only negative - needs a couple of degrees more heat in shower.

We have been at this site often. We stumbled on it, such a refreshing site spotless toilets
The site is right in the town very handy for shops. Tesco it as soon as you leave the site walking. Great Maleks fish & Chips plus a great Chinese take away.
I love this site is it owned and run by the community and helps run the towns swimming pool

Just stayed one night on way to visit relatives in Newton Stewart.
Nice views over town and beyond. Easy to access.
No staff on site (run very well by council) facilities a bit older but still excellent and plenty for site though only one washing up sink.
Nice roomy pitches.
Nice walks into woods behind site.

Chose this local community site as they welcome motorcycles and tents and was really good value for money.
Ideal location for touring the local area, which was excellent with a varied mix of roads and scenery to explore.
Site offers a pretty level, well drained area for tents some available with electric hook up. Make sure you have a decent hammer and strong pegs as there are a few stones below the surface as we found! Can leave your motorcycle right next to your tent.
BBQ area, water, waste bin all nearby tent area. Short 1 min walk to toilet block.
Great views over the town and countryside. Local shops for eating out or takeaway. Pizza shop you def need to try and the Masonic Arms for friendly service and good selection of drinks, no food though.
Fuel available in the town.
Facilities are very clean and well kept. Toilets block just a short 1 minute walk or less from tent area. Showers were very good, lots of hot water.
Washing up area, basic but did the job.
Didn't have children with us but there is a fabulous play area, slide, swings climbing frames etc. Right next to the site.
Would we stay again? Definitely
