We booked this site via email; replies were very quick, deposit of one night's fees payable either by cheque or bank transfer
Access into and out of the site is good, plenty of room. On arrival, we were met by somone who acted as warden, and who has a caravan on one of the pitches.
We were told which pitch was allocated to us, and where everything was. We were also told that to pay the balance of our stay we had to go and see the people in the caravan on pitch 5. From what we could gather, the owners live in a house adjacent to the site, but we only saw the lady owner once during our stay.
Pitches are quite spacious, although rather sloping. The grass was kept very short and appeared well looked after. One thing which was mentioned on arrival was that the EHU is 10 amp. Not a problem to us, but it isn't mentioned anywhere on their website.
Facilities consist of a small toiletblock, containing 2 loos, 2 washbasins and 1 shower in both ladies and gents. The shower is quite hot, but has a press button. In the ladies this lasted for about 10 seconds, before you had to press it again, but OH said in the gents it barely lasted for 3 seconds, so he wasn't impressed with that. There is also a sink for washing/washing up.
There is a small information hut, which also has homemade cakes for sale. There is only 1 tap for fresh water, which is at the entrance, so a bit of a trek from some of the pitches. Bins are also located at the entrance. Chemical disposal is at the other side, between the main site and the toiletblock.
There is a large field adjacent to the site for dogs, all fenced in, so dogs can be let off the lead there. There are also now 2 more pitches, making a total of 14.
It's a very quiet site, although the one thing that was annoying (to us anyway) was that the wardens on pitch 5 have quite a big dog, which barked at anything and everything. On one occasion when we came back from a bikeride into the site it was on its way to the dogfield with its owner; on seeing us it started barking and pulling on the lead, to such an extent that the owner couldn't keep hold of it and it ran at me. It was quite scary actually, no dog is predictable, and it obviously wasn't under control, as no matter what the owner said or did, it didn't take any notice. I'm afraid that incident put me off the site; as after that I couldn't be sure that the dog would be 100% under control.
The site is about 2 miles from North Walsham, which has a couple of supermarkets and a weekly market. It's also great for cycling, as there are a few "Quiet Lanes", so we cycled quite a lot, as far as into Cromer and back one day.
There are also a couple of stretches of disused railways for cycling, which are accessible via some of the quiet lanes from the site, and which we made into a couple of days' cycling trips.
There are a couple of NT properties not far from the site, Blickling Hall and Fellbrigg; we didn't visit either, but we did visit the RAF Radar Museum nearby, booking online is cheaper than at the museum, an interesting day out. via mobile
A well maintained site for adults and pets only. Well located for exploring this beautiful corner of the country. Coast, stately homes, old canal/railway walks and plenty of pretty villages/pubs etc. And the northern Broads all within a few miles.
The site itself was simple to find by following the instructions on their website. The site itself is quite small, very quiet, and, when we were there, attracts like-minded campers.
It is very dog friendly (though we didn't have one with us) and all the ones we met were very well behaved and welcoming.
The pitches are of a good size, we were shown to our pitch by the couple on site who look after it through the season for the owners. The grounds are well established and well maintained.
The toilet/showers are limited to one each per gender and are a bit dated, however, they were kept up to a respectable standard. Cakes and preserves made by the owners are available. Only the one water tap near the entrance, but it's downhill to most pitches so bad at all.
Sainsburys, Lidl are both located in North Walsham which is only 2 miles away, we also had an Indian takeaway (Labone) which was delicious.
If you are after a peaceful gently sloping site with field and woodland views at a reasonable price and don't mind the odd wait for the loo, then this is the place for you.
Really did not want to write a review as wanted to keep this lovely little site a secret but the people running it deserve to have the business.
Had wonderful two night stay with our two Labradors the exercise paddock for them was brilliant much larger then most sites and very secure.
Would say this site is more suited to those with facilities on board although toilets were very clean there is no where to have a full wash and whilst the shower is lovely and hot there is no pressure in it.
But don’t let this put you off everyone was very friendly good dog walk within easy walking distance of the site and situation is great for the coast.
Also site gets good sunlight each pitch benefits from good amount of sun.
Will definitely be going back hope you enjoy if you go
Warm welcome and spacious pitches. Site well laid out and very easy to navigate to. Location was good short distance to sandy beaches and shopping.
Site was peaceful apart from the odd helicopter and some aircraft noise, although it was rare. The dog exercise paddock was brilliant, completely fenced in and secure, great freedom for our two dogs.
Toilets and showers were a little bit dated but more than adequate and serviceable.
There were homemade cakes, jams available at really reasonable prices.
The only downside encountered was that electricity was 10 amp and our ‘super fast boil’ kettle would trip it out. Not a major problem we just switched to gas kettle.
I have been caravanning since early 1980’s and visited many many sites. I’ve never felt the urge to return to any except this one when I hopefully will make my stay a longer one.
