Stayed here for one night on our way to Spain. Have used this as a stopover site for the last 8 years and have seen it gradually decline.
Pool area is fantastic, staff in reception are friendly and speak English.
The pitches however are long rectangular dust bowls that turn into mud baths as soon as it rains. Each pitch has its own facilities which are now in need of a make over and have a tendency to not smell so sweet.
Can see where investment has been made, pool and bar area.
At 39 Euros for one night far too pricey now so will find a new site next year. Shame as it is very conveniently placed for the toll road.
Such a pity we thought. That a site in such a good situation, with so many excellent facilities - well stocked shop, quality restaurant, impressive pool, obliging staff, private shower and toilet cubicles. Should have quite a lot of poor quality, poky, narrow little pitches. And even though the site was 80% empty in mid June should 'allocate' those poor pitches to unbooked visitors paying ACSI card rates. We could have gone all the way back to reception to ask for something better, but as it was we put up with a narrow, unshaded, rutted, dry mud alley, with no shade at all. And rather than stay a few days as we intended we simply left in the morning.
We stayed here for 9 nights with friends on their first trip to france.
We had a good pitch and the campsite had a really nice relaxed feel. The pitches did really vary in size so it might be worth checking the campsite map and requesting before booking.
The Reception were very helpful and we could stay next to our friends. I messed up my dates and they tagged an extra night on for us.
The Facilities were good for Children with a playground, mini golf and tennis courts all free. My only complaint was that the pool was quite cold (not uncommon in France in July/August as they seem to turn the heating off!).
The personal toilet and shower was very useful, although our shower was a bit of a dribble! They were clean and maintained although as said before dated.
Good food in the restaurant which seemed well used.
We cycled around the lake and through the nature reserve to the canal du midi, then on into Narbonne it took 3hours with very young children but was lovely.
Narbonne is a pretty town and the free tour of the cathedral is a must. Sadly there was little else to do without a 20min drive. The beach as Grissan was good (although the sand is red in this area, if you a fussy about these things). Carcassone was a 40 min drive and a must see especially the jousting on Saturdays.
All in all I would stay here again, although be prepared to drive, there were also lots of mosquitos due to the lake, so we zipped our awning at night if using the light! This was not my favourite area of the French Med, but we had a lovely time.
We stayed at this site for a week on our way back from Spain. Very easy access from A9 motorway after going through tolls you are immediately on a round-a-about go round taking last entrance which is sign posted La Nautique and then follow the signs for 2. 5km.
The people on reception were friendly and welcoming and although we had been allocated a pitch we were allowed to walk around the site and select another if we did not like it. We noted that some pitches were very muddy following heavy rain the previous day so you should bear this in mind when choosing and this is the reason we changed our pitch. The pitches have 10 amps electric (reverse polarity) and a water tap and some have a waste point. However there are two uncommon things about the majority of pitches on this site.
Pitch shape – A lot of the pitches are a very odd shape being either narrow at the front and wider at the back or wider at the front and narrow at the back. If you are putting up an awning I would chose the former as it allows you to use more of the space. On the subject of awnings you will need rock pegs as the ground is like concrete.
Sanitary Facilities – There are no sanitary blocks instead there are individual ones on each pitch although on some you may have to cross the back of your neighbours pitch to reach it. Personally we thought they were dated and needed refurbishment but as we always use our own facilities this was not an issue for us.
The biggest issue with this site is the Mosquito’s. To put it politely they are a pain and like us you will need to use suntan/after-sun cream with repellent in it and lots and lots of insect repellent. Even then we were still being bitten! We have never come across a place as bad as this in all our years camping and caravanning. In the end we gave up and started wearing our long trousers. We had chosen an open pitch so the problem was not as bad as those in amongst the trees and tall hedges. We knew this because those people located in that area were changing pitches to the more open area.
Most of the other facilities e. G. The restaurant was closed so we cannot comment on them other than the fact they looked reasonable. There are Supermarkets and shops a short drive away.
There is a lot to see and do in the area the main one being the chateau at Carcassonne but we liked Narbonne Plage as it had a wide embankment running along the front to walk/cycle along with Restaurants, Ice Cream counters and no Mosquito’s. Quite a lot of them were open as well which we were surprised with it being October.
We would visit this site again but only for a 1 or 2 nights stopover mainly because of the Mosquito’s and we were not keen on the strange shaped pitches.
This was a 2 night stop for us and as the temperature was around 30c we did not venture very far so cannot comment on the local area. Having read the reviews on this website I was attracted to it for 3 reasons:
Good restaurant, personal toilet/shower and flamingoes!
The experience was positive on all 3 fronts.
The restaurant was excellent, the facilities, if a little quirky and dated, were appreciated
(particularly in the middle of the night) and the flamingoes put in an appearance.
We also sampled the pool which was large and quiet at the time of year.
Travelling with a dog it was disappointing that we could not find a dedicated dog walking area on such a large site and the gate to beach area was locked (a key could be obtained at reception) but as the site was quiet, walking around the large open area beyond the restaurant was just about sufficient.
As mentioned by other reviewers the pitches were slightly odd in shape and rock pegs were definitely the order of the day. I guess this could be a problem if you were travelling with a conventional tent as the ground resembled concrete and had no grass but generally the site was well maintained and the reception staff were pleasant, helpful and had good English.
Our first stop off in France heading across from Italy to Spain. Up to this point we had been staying with Friends so this was the first time we unpacked the tent.
In terms of location, it is right on the beach. 10 steps from tent to sea. If you want a pitch along the shore I think you need to book well in advance but our pitch was 1 row back. Because it is on the beach, expect to be pitching on sand. Hard sand at that. This site inspired us to go out and buy some rock pegs which, for the rest of the trip were essential. Do not travel with them. We threw away old standard pegs.
The site itself was very nice, large supermarket 5 mins drive, washing up, toilets and showers all clean but no hand soap. There is a restaurant on site but we did not try it out.
A few ants about but nothing much to worry about. Pitches were a little intimate but shaded and some are separated by hedges. Electricity if you need it. Staff very friendly and spoke English.
All in all, for 1 night, we were more than happy. The sand was a little tricky to deal with when living in a tent, we had to go out and buy a brush so I would possibly consider staying elsewhere if I was to travel under canvas again but in a motorhome or caravan, it was a lovely location.
We arrived late (around 7pm) without having booked. Fortunately reception was still open and we got a pitch for our tent.
Now when other reviewers say the ground is hard - it really is - and with the wind you really do need a lot of rock pegs. Reception sell them at 1 euro each, there is a Decathlon nearby, but Carrefour next to it, is even cheaper for them.
Had we arrived earlier then we wouldn't have chosen our pitch (no 336) for a tent as it is quite exposed and faces directly into the wind.
Even though we were staying for 6 nights, we didn't move - although we should have as there are plenty of sheltered plots.
The site is lovely though and we really enjoyed our stay here. It overlooks the lake and gives easy access to Narbonne, Carcassonne and the beaches around. We even drove out to the Pyrenees, which was only 1hr 15 mins away.
The private bathrooms were good, with warm water and make a nice change from the communal ones.
The swimming pool was nice, but pretty cold and the water slide was fun. The toddlers pool was freezing though as it was always in the shade.
There was a good play area and you could hire bikes and canoes on site.
It is very windy here though - great for kite flying, windsurfing etc. We were really surprised that our tent stood up to it at times - but again our pitch didn't help.
We stayed at the end of Aug/beginning of Sept and things were closing down, but we liked the peace and quiet.
One thing you definitely need is mosquito repellent at this time of year. I was eaten alive, however DH wasn't really. Insect bite cream was much more expensive than at home, so make sure you take some with you.
Overall it was an enjoyable site, which we would return to - albeit on a different pitch!
A good site with quiet and very private pitches. The high hedges provide welcome shade in the summer and we loved having our own personal sanitation at the back of our pitch - much easier than traipsing to the shower block in the mornings to queue in your dressing gown.
The receptionist was friendly, as were the staff at the restaurant where we had a good evening meal. The swimming pool looked inviting but as we were only on an overnight stop we didn't venture in.
The site overlooks the beautiful Etang de Bages and we found it a good stopover for setting off towards Carcasonne the next morning.
The site is an ACSI one and we got good mid season rates using our card.
We stayed a week at the end of August and thought it superb. The ability to walk to the lake(take anti mosquito stuff) was lovely. Supermarkets very local (by car). The shower building was lovely the pitch not huge but big enough for our 6, 75m caravan with dining out space. Others do have to walk along the back of your pitch to get to their shower as the buildings are not one on every pitch but one per pitch in groups of three four of fivish. We are going back! (Two adults no kids)
It was great having your own toilet and shower facilities - never mind if they were a tiny bit tired; you can't be too picky when camping! It was so great not having to face other people before you've woken up properly, and being able to do your dishes in your own sink was great. The ground is very hard and it was very windy, but that's the nature of the place. When the wind settled, it was beautiful. It was a charming campsite, the next one we went to was nice but full of stroppy teens, whereas this one was full of smaller children who were sweet. Nice bread and the papers were another bonus.
