I am fair and honest in my reviews, and although the site is in a nice enough area, we did find the campsite rather disappointing I'm afraid.
It does have the potential to be a nice site and it's encouraging that the owner is investing in it, and we could see work being undertaken on site when we arrived.
There was no clear signage for the site so initially we drove right past it and had to turn around, park up and call the owner to check where it was and be given directions.
On arrival no-one was there to meet us, we just had to find a place to pitch, on uneven ground that looked quite muddy in places.
The owner had emailed us the day before our arrival to explain that the single shower in the temporary block (which only had 1 shower and 1 toilet for the whole site) was out of order, so offered to pay for us to use the leisure centre down the road for a shower, or give us a 20% refund. We didn't take him up on either offer as we didn't want the hassle of the former, and we'd rather he keep the money and put it towards a much-needed campsite sign and site improvements.
This site has potential to be attractive but currently somewhat resembles a building site.
The new sanitary block promised 2 years ago is still not complete so there is only the portacabin with toilet, sink and shower. Not sufficient. It is kept clean and there is a good supply of hot water in the shower.
There is no washing up area. The one recycling bin is overflowing and thoughtless campers have left stuff around it rather than take it away.
So, in view of all this I feel it is overpriced. via mobile
Loved this site! It may once have been down-at-heel but it's fortunes are being turned around and although the facilities are basic they are, thanks to Caroline, spotlessly clean and well equipped.
Pitch where you like and Carolyn comes round and collects the site fee, cash or card.
Great views across Far Bay and a nice walk down to the beach, then walk back up the hill to The Store for a late breakfast of pancakes, bacon, maple syrup and the best coffee I've tasted for a long while - the perfect way to start the day (so good I'm fact that we stayed for another!) via mobile

Absolutely loved this campsite for just being able to relax.
Very simple with Farr Beach, museum, Bistro, General Store and Crumbs Honesty Cake box all within walking distance.
There is no reception, just pick your pitch and can either settle payment next to the General Store or the owner comes round in the evening to take payment by either cash or card.
It was just me and my 6 year old daughter and she absolutely loved it, very simple site for just kicking back and relaxing.
Owner was a lovely lady, who was more than happy to have a chat and assist you in any way.
Improvements are happening with a new block being built and I would definitely recommend! via mobile
Beautiful location and stunning views over Farr Beach. The facilities are being updated at the moment, new toilet block is in process of being built, however a temporary shower and toilet unit is in place until completion.
There are no pitch fees prices are £5. 00 pp per night and £5. 00 for electricity hook up, just pick your spot and the owner comes around in the evening to collect the fees.
There is two entrances for the site one at the top that's quite steep an another at the bottom (beach Side) that's flat. Use the beach side entrance. Farr beach 5 min walk away,
Local Shop/Post office/petrol station, Pub, swimming pool/gym and public toilets just a few minutes walk away, other places within walking distance is the Store cafe, Farr Bay Inn, Tourist information/food cafe, Ardmore Point and bettyhill pier.
Also at Craigdhi there is not the strict rules associated with most modern campsites.
Plus there is a local car garage if you unfortunately have car problems or need gas bottles. via mobile
The best thing about this campsite is the view of the beach at Farr Bay. There are no facilities at all, apart from electricity, so you are paying to park in a field. There is no running water on site, it's not child friendly and it's not disabled friendly. The owner is an elderly lady who is very sweet but appears to be completely unaware of the state of the facilities, as she will advise you that there are hot showers, laundry etc. This is completely incorrect.
Please please don't go in the facilities block - it is truly disgusting. I think previous campers have been emptying their chemical toilets in there, and there obviously hasn't been any running water for a considerable amount of time. Public toilets and The Bettyhill Hotel are a 5 minute walk back up the hill. Huge shame because with correct management and facilities, it could be a really lovely little peaceful site.
However, the £12 we paid was worth it just for the easy 5 minute walk to the completely deserted beach. via mobile
I have visited this site regularly over the years and it was well looked after up to when the original owner passed away. The current owner is unable to carry on the tasks.
Most of the reviews I see on this site tend to be accurate, and yes it does need modernised but yes also, it is not for people who expect pristine modern campsites.
I would also agree that any investment by owners would be quickly repaid because the village, scenery and local people are so nice. How about an upgrade and a fee raise.
I would add that there is a very nice site at Strathy long before you reach Thurso called the Halladale Inn and this would be a good alternative, with good food and bar.
Beautiful location and views, Campsite facilities are basic but clean, Lovely family owners, Local Shop and Pub just a few minutes walk, Owners house just at the top of hill (across the road from the farm steading) also there is not the strict rules associated with most modern campsites.
My Wife and I own a static caravan on site and travel from Inverness every third weekend for the piece and quilt plus to enjoy all the beautiful things Bettyhill has to offer.
Just bliss
