One of our favourite sites. Warm welcome, as always: it's good to be recognised as a returning customer. Shop at Reception well stocked, including local artisan ice cream.

Short term tree works mean the woods are closed for safety reasons: we'll check they're open again before booking our next visit, as we enjoy the many walks there, especially when the rhododendrons are flowering.

Now £39 pn, for a generous HS pitch - including EHU, Wi-Fi, TV socket, dog, awning, showers. Facilities are never closed for cleaning, always immaculate, as is the whole site.

This is my second time staying at this site. The staff are so lovely and friendly and gave me a warm welcome.

We were offered an "upgrade" to an electrical pitch - we had booked non-electric as they were sold out of electrical for the bank holiday. This pitch was at the other side of the campsite from the usual tent places.

The exchange for this was that the pitch wasn't quite in the state that the site wanted - there had been plans for upgrading this part over the winter but weather and time had other plans. As a consequence the ground was quite uneven and patchy with a few holes and roots.

We worked round this and were rewarded with a quiet pitch, bordered by woodland, sightings of woopeckers, a tawny owl and the usual avian suspects. It is more exposed than the regular tent pitches, with the south westerly wind hitting the tent side on and it was a bit of trek to the toilets overnight for those of us weak of bladder but the pluses outweighed the minuses, particularly given how busy the tent section was over the bank holiday.

The toilets and showers were very clean and well kept. Plenty of hot water and a decent flow, good spread of water and waste facilities, well stocked shop, undercover barbecue area should the Scottish weather let you down and the Smiddy farm shop and cafe a short walk or drive away.

My 7 year old also heartily recommends the playground and accessibility of woodland areas for exploration and den building with his new-found friends. We also took advantage of the multi-day entry to the safari park next door which is exclusive to residents of the site.

I am sure we will be back - thank you!

Really friendly welcome and site staff.

The site is set up for mostly caravans with a few pitches for tents that are well sheltered between a picturesque wall (as walls go) and a hedge.

The pluses to this are that the pitch was very private and sheltered from the worst of any wind but it wasn't the most inspiring view. It was a quiet site and there wasn't any anti-social noise. We were the only tent so had plenty of space and multiple pitches to chose from.

The facilities were always very clean and well kept and the shop had enough to keep you going. My son loved the walk to the nearby Smiddy for a lovely breakfast, the fact that we only had to pay once for multiple days entry to the safari park and the wonderful pizza (again provided by the Smiddy farm shop who have a stall on site) on Saturday night. He also made lots of friends on at the playground.

I enjoyed the peace and quiet and access to nice countryside walks. We spent most of our time either at the safari park or at the site, but there are plenty of places to visit around the area such as Doune castle and Stirling.

Shops are a bit of a trek by car, so organisation was key.

Our go-to site for short breaks, nice to be recognised by the Manager. Midweek - we didn't book, arrived early afternoon and got our favourite pitch; late arrivals had little choice as the site was full by evening.

Adding to previous reviews: there's a Smiddy pizza tent at the entrance on Saturdays (sadly not mid-week), and the Smiddy shop has a good choice of BBQ food should the weather be kind. Good showers, facilities always clean.

The Wi-Fi (via satellite) is free, but a nearby caravan's router had a stronger signal, so we couldn't use it. Each pitch has a TV socket, handy for Wimbledon! We noticed several VW campervans had short (10m?) cables which were not able to reach their EHU stanchion; they'd move pitch next morning.

There is a play area beyond the walled garden area, but children were just cycling round and round quite happily.

Owls at night; Safari Park animal noises at feeding time (discounted tickets for the Park from Reception). Buses hourly into Stirling or Doune (for Callender) from the main road, allow 20 mins to walk down. £36 pn, EHU & showers included.

Extremely friendly staff, really good facilities and always clean.

Excellent woodland walks around (we did both short and long walks).

Very quiet site although you can hear the animals from the safari park next door which was a bonus.

Stirling Park and Ride was less than a 10 min drive away and was free the day we used it.

Great local farm shop within walking distance.

Great addition was the ice cream van who visited every afternoon.

Will definitely return.

A return visit to one of our favourite sites, guaranteed a friendly welcome; I can't find a reason to mark it down. It's best to arrive early if you have a particular pitch in mind - later arrivals had little choice as the site was full most evenings.

The walled garden area is very sheltered with manicured lawns and some trees; generous pitches with plenty of space between; grass areas where other sites would have squeezed in another pitch; and some trees for those who want shade.

Very peaceful and quiet, just birdsong (except one sunny afternoon when there was loud pop music over the entire site until early evening, when the warden did his usual walkabout chatting to dogs & everyone sitting outside - and the radio suddenly went off). Huge wet-room showers, clean facilities.

Worth walking to The Smiddy farm shop through the many paths in the estate woodland garden on the "short walk" map (great for the dog), to sit outside with one their excellent ice creams; you can get their own BBQ food there too.

The "long walk" map on the site leaflet is diagramatic & we did have to check with Google Maps, but we enjoyed the 5 mile walk around the river (where the dog had a refreshing dip) to see the views across to Doune castle, and back the quicker way on the surfaced road past some former estate houses.

It would add another hour to continue to walk on through Doune to the castle (Historic Scotland), but we'll do that next time now that it's reopened after repairs. Could always get the bus back.

Long single lane track with passing places to site, lovely greeting by the warden, loads of info given for walks.

Pitched in walled area around some trees really nice. Clean toilet block. 20 minutes walk through woods to the Smiddy farm shop and cafe. Outside seating with the dog.

Walked to Doune down tracks and lane joining main road just before the village. Had breakfast in the Buttercup cafe yard area, back via a lake skirting the edge of the safari park.

Nice interaction with the wardens as you pass in and out of the site.

Ideal for families, excellent clean facilities.

Perfect for inexperienced campers.

Playground and icecream van visiting was a winner with the children.

We had a fantastic time at the nearby Blair Drummond and Briarsland.

It's been a few years since we last stated here, but it didn't disappoint.

We were allowed to park in any free pitch be so opted for outwith the walled garden, nearer the playpark as we now have two little ones.

All pitches to are hardstanding and the one we had was on a slight slope but nothing too bad.

Staff were friendly and helpful and toilets were spotless.

Showers are the best in I've seen on a site as be the cubicles are massive with two hooks and a stool so easy to wash and keep your clothes dry.

Kids area was great with modern safe equipment for all ages and loads of kids playing well together until 1030 quiet time which was observed well.

Ice cream van came at approximately 8:30 each night which was a bonus. Buy your Safari park tickets on site as you can use them everyday for the duration of your visit which means you don't have to cram everything into one day.

Smiddy farm shop is only 10 minutes away and sells fresh produce and has a butcher which is also owned by Blair drummond.

We all had a great time.

A return visit, we were welcomed warmly. £30 pn, £1 per stay for the dog. Pitches very generous & widely spaced.

Immaculate toilet block with fantastic showers, grass mown into stripes, bins emptied regularly with good recycling (though some campers still don’t bother).

Multiple fresh water taps & waste water drains; MH service point a wee bit awkward to use, judging by other vehicles (we use a waste water canister);

The site is a short drive from the M-way, so it’s popular with hired MHs staying just one night and it’s easy to find - follow the brown “safari park” signs & continue on a bit.

One note of caution - the speed bumps on the access road to the site are brutal. You need to go over them v-e-r-y slowly.

Quiet & restful in the walled garden. There are endless permutations of ‘named’ walks through the woods that the dog enjoyed & the azaleas and rhododendrons were looking stunning.

Bus stops for Stirling or Doune & Callendar are 20 minutes walk through the woods (a more pleasant walk than down the access road), near the Smiddy.

This does meals & snacks indoors & outside, and sells all you need for a BBQ, including their own interesting recipe sausages & rare breed lamb.
