Have just returned from a two night stay at this site. The staff were very friendly, if a little ever present.
The facilities were clean and warm! There were two showers in the facilities near our tent, which meant that there was some queueing but it could be missed if timed right. The showers were definitely not power showers, more dripping tap, but they were hot, so that made up for it.
They were VERY strict about not playing ball games on site. And , yes the beach was just across the road, but its not easy to play footie on stones!
Having said that the kids loved the beach and sea and were nipping over there on and off all day. The site shop was well stocked, and you definitely wouldn't go hungry. However, that said we opted to eat out and found a lovely pub about mile and half up the road called The Smugglers Inn, which did reasonable pub fare at a reasonable price and there was a lovely big garden for the kids to play in. And a nice pint of Spit Fire!
We would consider going again, but not being C & CC members thought that it was a little expensive.

We had 3 nights at Normans bay and to be honest the site is a bit of a mixed bag. We arrived Friday late afternoon and found the staff to be friendly, efficient and helpful. The warden even help push the camper in to the right position after showing us our pitch. The site is large, flat and right on top of the (stony) beach, which does make it rather exposed to the weather. Friday night we came to realize that the other reviews here regarding the wind were not wrong. I saw one mans tent turned in to a kite and most caravan awnings were secured with storm straps. During the night the sound of the sea was quite loud and there is a branch line close by. We returned from Brighton Saturday afternoon to see the site full of tents, caravans and motor homes which were all a bit crammed on top of each other. The toilet block was clean enough although given the amount of pitches on the site I would think only having 2 showers would mean you queuing for a wash. There was a second block on the other side of the field that I didn't visit. The site shop, though small, was quite well stocked. I am always a little surprised at a shop which sells kites and balls on a site that strictly prohibits using them! Its location is near Eastbourne and between Hastings and Brighton, so if you don't mind a 20 minute drive there is plenty to do. There are several takeawaya 1 mile from the site in the town and a small unmanned station to the left as you walk out of the gate if you fancy a train ride to Brighton or Hastings(there is also 1 to the right nearly 2 miles away that you pass on your way in,). Unfortunately on the Sunday the wind and rain made packing away a nightmare. Would I book Normans bay again? No! it is just to exposed to high winds and a bit of a soul less site. Roll on next week when we pick up our caravan and no longer have to worry about packing away a wet tent or being blown away(although at Normans bay I wouldn't be supprised) GF

Having been to this site several times, we shan't be returning! After a change of manager, we found the site to be less than welcoming this time around. The grass where we were placed was almost knee high, not good when it's rained overnight and you're in a tent! The site wardens were quite rude and whilst they liked riding around on bikes yelling at children (not ours) for breaking the no ball games rule (a five year old!) they were not so keen on cleaning the loos/showers. It's great to be by the beach, but is very windy at all times, several tents had their poles bent when we were there, all the caravan awnings needed storm straps. Lots to do in the area, even keeping our teenagers amused was easy.

We have just got back from a truly lovely stay at this ideal campsite. We stayed for 3 nights over the mini heatwave weekend! Although the Saturday night was busy, the campsite was full, after going out for the day on Sunday, we came back to find a lot had gone home, so there was more space. On arrival we were shown to our pitch, there are excellent facilities here, the shower blocks were clean and hot water. The pitches are flat, I would imagine if the weather hadn't of been so good, it could get windy there as it is very open. But the warm sea breezes were a very welcome addition during a mini heatwave! The site shop is small and I can also add that the fresh bakery products are very lovely. If you walk across the road, you are on a lovely pebble beach, privatley owned by the campsite! This is a great area for riding your bikes, it's lovely and flat, the train station is a short walk away with regular trains to Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton. Asda supermarket is a short drive away. Overall would receommend and will definatly be going back.

We have just returned from a long weekend at this site with our grandchildren. We have used the site before. The site wardens were all very helpful and friendly. The toilets and showers were as you come to expect from a C&C club site 10 out of 10. The beach is dog friendly and we found plenty to do with a visit to Hastings, this is a better option with children than Eastbourne. We will return to this site another time.

Very nice quiet relaxing site opposite beach. Wardens very friendly and helpful (The one I spoke to was new to the site this year) No-one objected to my son kicking a ball around and throwing a Frisbee. Ideal for beach holiday although pebble beach there was plenty of sand when the tide was out. Not much on site for the kids to do apart from the beach but Eastbourne and the new harbour village are only a short drive. Shop didn't carry much but fresh bread was excellent and there is a big Asda nearby. There were two toilet blocks and the one we used was spotless although there were only three showers so we had to queue and the campsite wasn't even full. The other block also only had three showers this more for the tents and wasn't quite so clean. I would definitely go back again but I think the children like more to do on site.

We spent a few days on this site and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The energetic lawn mower driver did put in an appearance, but then the site has an awful lot of grass which needs cutting. We'd soon moan if the grass was left too long. All the children on site were well behaved and quiet (thanks to the parents being in control) so the wardens had no need to shout and our quietude was undisturbed. Even the trains were more useful than intrusive; Norman's Bay halt is a few minutes (jog) away and the rail service is ideal for exploring further along the coast in both directions. The games room wasn't open, which we thought unusual on a peak week, and the shower block could have been cleaned more often - but that often says more about the users than the wardens. Wed be happy to return there when in the area.

It took four wardens to book us into this site, and they were not particularly friendly. When we ran out of gas they would not sell us any as it was after hours - despite a notice advertising that gas would be sold after hours. Not a good start. The no ball games rule was sad, although some families broke this rule. Facilities were clean and well tended, and the site was a few minutes from the beach. Windy and near to trains which weren't a problem.

June 2005 Good site but very exposed and always windy, could do with some more dividing hedges . There is a very nice on site shop, which stocks all the basics, and a fish & chip van visits every Saturday evening. There are several pubs within a mile of the site where you can get a nice meal and the beach is just across the road.
There is also a small games room with pool table plenty of toilets and showers that are kept very clean. I have been camping here on and off for over 30 years and although some of the wardens have been a bit on the grumpy side the majority of them are most pleasant and welcoming.
I have 11 grandchildren who have all been to the site with us and we have never had any problems with the wardens shouting at them, if children are well behaved there is no need for it and it makes for a better holiday for other campers.

May 2005 we have just returned from this site and we loved it! We got a lovely welcome from the warden, gave us lots of local info. Lovely walks each way to pubs that serve good food. We caught a bus into Eastbourne, bus stop 10 minutes away. We felt very much at ease on site, noise from trains not a problem .We had a lovely relaxing stay, so much we have booked for a week in June. Yes a bit breezy but being so close to the sea its what you expect, everyone was friendly and we enjoyed our stay!!!

May 2005 Have just returned from this site, which was the second Camping and Caravaning site we have used in the UK (have used many Carefree sites abroad). The site was clean, tidy, showers and toilets spotless (which you can rely on with C and C sites). Good distances between pitches which were grass and reasonably flat. Shop had the basics and you could order newspapers etc. Pevensey Bay and the surrounding areas are easily accessible. The site is well signposted and easy to find and has a welcoming entrance and reception area.
On the downside, however,as far as we were concerned we found it very hard to just relax on this site. Although they ban ball games, kites etc etc the ban did not include "Lawnmower Man" and his assistants, who from 0900 to 1800 hours daily kept up a relentless cutting regime, using a ride-on Kubota tractor and the site officials seemed to take delight on seeing who could cut the nearest to an occupied pitch whether it needed it or not. We found it impossible to relax and would have had a more restful time sitting in our back garden. The site is next to shingle beach and very exposed to all wind directions. When the wind is in the north the two railway lines that run parallel to the site can only add to the grass cutters'Grand Prix! We didnt take the children this time and think that there is not enough to occupy them on this site.

March 2005 We have long waited to get onto this site but were disappointed in it. The wardens were not especially welcoming and as usual could not work the computer. We were guided by one of them across an undulating grass pitch, and then were left to cope when there was about 1cm between the back of the 'van and the grass. We damaged the jockey wheel and the car's clutch. But apart from that, the pitches are unbelievably close together. About 12' between us and the next van and on hands shaking terms with the people on other side. We have had similar with other camping and caravan club sites and think we will not be renewing our membership.

June 2004 What a disappointment - our 3 families comprising 9 children were made to feel most unwelcome by the numerous wardens in their red uniforms. Camping is our favourite family activity yet our children were shouted at like dogs. We will never return here and it is unlikely we will use the caravan and camping club again.

May '04 The first time we had stayed at this site, but recommended by the in-laws as they stay here frequently. We stayed for the weekend and were very happy with the site. The toilet blocks were very clean and there were plenty of them. Although the games room was closed at the time it looked very good. It was adjacent to the beach and was great for the kids and for walking the dog in the evening when the tide was out.
We have booked up again for 2 weeks in the summer. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

April 2003 Good site for our second trip. It is however very exposed and the wind can get up. There is an on site shop and a chip van visits every Saturday evening. There are several pubs within a mile of the site and the beach is 2mins away. Also a small games room with pool table good toilet and showers.
