 Visited this site twice last year and are looking to go back at Whitsun. Nice quiet site with a field at the back where you can exercise your dog off the lead. The pub at the front of the site even lets you take your dog inside. Downside is small shower block

We have just got back from a 3 night stay at this site and we were very impressed. The pitches are well kept and spacious, the toilet block is clean and warm, the showers are free and hot. Only criticism is there are only two shower cubicles per sex so you have to vary the time you shower if you don't want to queue. The location is perfect for the canal - walking/cycling the tow path or into the village, and is walking distance from the wildfowl & wetlands trust at Slimbridge. The Tudor Arms pub is very nice but you may need to book if you want to eat. There is a cafe on the canal which sells food & drink.
A nice relaxing site. Would definitely go back again.

A fantastic location here right next to the canal. Welcoming site with a nice size hard standing and immaculately kept. Just the two of us this time as we left our 10 year old son at home. Glad we did because although it was a fantastic site for us, but if we had brought our son along I am sure he would have been very bored here. As we took our bikes along with us we cycled the tow path towards Gloucester and stopped for lunch in a pub called the Pilot eight miles along the path. We had a lovely 2 course meal for £6 each and then struggled with a full belly back to Slimbridge. The pub at the entrance to the site is being extended at the moment. When we popped in there we found it welcoming and homely.
The only down points here are that if you have children make sure you are able to keep them occupied and as with previous reviews. the showers are inadequate for a site this size and the block really needs updating (although it was very clean).

Just come back from a three night stay. This is a very very quiet site, with a lot of seasonal pitched caravans. There is no shop on site, although there is a cafe on the road outside the site, which is also right on the canal. This shop caters mainly for barges and their upkeep. They sell hot food and if you are quick you can get a paper. ( very quick that is).
The toilets have a combination to get inside (?) although I really couldn't see why. The water in the showers, there are only two for the whole site, is lovely and hot when they warm up, and are free, but the shower cubicles are extremely small and have an annoying clingy shower curtain. The toilets overall were cold.
Our Vodaphone mobiles worked fine, no problems with signals. TV aerial worked ok too.
The walks along the canal are great and you can walk for miles. There is a post office in Slimbridge village which is a good 15 -20minutes walk away. The pub is right at the entrance to the site and although we didn't try it out, the car park was very full on Sat night!
The rubbish on site is sectioned off into re-cyclable bins. There is nothing at all for children on this site and in the summer is adults only in the part we stayed in. Dogs are allowed, usual rules apply.
Probably wouldn't stay again, but only because it wasn't to our tastes, not because the site was not up to standard.

Just returned from a 5 night stay. Good site with plenty of space... that is if the warden didn't line everyone up ... but plenty of space in the middle for kids to play cricket etc. There are plenty of walks on the canal which is good as there are no facilities for the kids. Great pub outside the camp along with a cafe on the canal to get provisions or a great cooked brakfast.
The toilet block had only 2 showers each but were cleaned reguarly except for a smell in the ladies.
The site does allow dogs but only under complete control, there are the rules too but we found this site very quiet, even at weekend, so if you like an early night you can get one!

We first came to this site in January and had a really good time. On arrival we were made very welcome and the site itself is very well maintained and well situated. There are some lovely walks in the area, along the canal and the paths locally were nice for a few circular walks. In Winter, the Tudor Arms (at the site Entrance) makes a nice refuge for those long nights and a nice place to sit outside in summer. We have had some good food there too. The canal runs at the back of the site and there is an excellent towpath which is ideal for walking and cycling. There is a little shop and cafe alongside the canal near the site which has a limited supply of provisions but very handy. We haven't visited the Wildfowl centre but it is very handy for the site. The limited number of showers made the block busy on occasions but if you choose your moment you could avoid the rush. This is a great quiet little spot and we will certainly be back.

Have just returned from a 2 night stay at Tudor Caravan Park. As previous comments the field was a bit bumpy, we did wonder why part of the tent was further from the ground. OK apart from when the wind got up and then we were a bit nervous. Showers, loos and washing up area clean and freezer for ice blocks. Nice pub by main gate, always seemed busy. If we were in the area again we would definitely stay here.

Lovely grassy site, was made very welcome by owner even recieving an intoductory pack to site and area. Large grass field all with hook-ups and water points. As mentioned by another reader the large field at the top seemed pretty furrowed, but grassy.
Unfortunately a couple of minus's the toilet block only had 2 showers which at busy times did prove difficult. For some it was quite a trek as well. This location had the only CDP. The surrounding area is beautiful with the barges on the canal great for the kids.

We've just returned from a weekend at this site and it's fantastic. It is situated right next to the canal. If you are on one side of the field you can peep through the bushes and see the boats go by. The pitches in the main field are not marked out in any way. We were given a rough area of where to pitch..which mean that we could stake our claim to our chosen area without being restricted to 'x' amount square feet. The grass was beautifully cut and flat..the bit we had was.
When we arrived we we greeted by the owner and handed two greatly informative booklets about the surrounding area..a nice touch. The 'rules' everyone mentions are just a few things to make everyones lives nicer..like keeping the noise down after 10pm.
The toilet and shower blocks are very clean and well kept AND warm. There are only two showers, but this didn't cause us any problems, even on a bank hoilday weekend. The codes on the door, we believe are to stop canal boat users or nearby pub goers from using them.
The shop at the lock, less than 5 minutes walk away is well stocked with everyday basics and isn't too expensive. It also has a cafe inside with seatings outside, next to the canal. A beautiful place to sit and watch the world and boats go by.
We would recommend this site to anyone looking for a good quality, ideally located site.

Very nice position and great for walking cycling.
Easy access and a fairly flat site but as someone else said there are ridges across the big field, so if your car is low with the van on then you might plow earth.
On the minus side - the toilet block, limited (2 male showers) but clean. However there is a coded lock on the block door, which means you have to remember the code to pee!! It also means short people, toddlers have to be accompanied. I didn't see any disabled access.

I liked this site even if it was slightly regimented for us! Yes there are rules but nothing you don't get anywhere else - here you can: Ride a bike (and you can't do that everywhere!), fly a kite, play with a football and put up a washing line!
We were on a hardstanding with no elec and two kids - £10.25 in mid August - bargain for the site I thought. No shop but if you go by the canal there is a shop which sells milk and papers but closes early. (Before 6 I think).
The site is right next to Slimbridge wetlands etc so you wouldn't really go anywhere else! The warden was really amenable and has a good local knowledge.
Toilets were fine - showers a bit mad on direction but no spiders! I didn't think they were in need of anything to be honest!
I would stay here again - we were only here for one night - when we go to the WWT centre!

Nice campsite in a beautiful location. Showers and toilets were adequate but could do with modernisation. Plenty of space to pitch your tent with good facilities nearby (pub and shop next to the site). Lovely bike/walking routes along the canal.

This site is in a beautiful location right next to the canal. The showers and toilets are adequate but there were quite a few large spiders when we visited - a problem if you don't like spiders like me! We were on the larger field and although it was nice to have lots of space in front, we had a problem getting the caravan on and off due to the large ridges in the ground. We also felt it was a bit pricey for the lack of facilities and were given a sheet of do's and dont's, one of which included not being able to use a fan heater as this would trip the whole site. I wouldn't stay there again due to the spiders and rules which is a shame because it could have been a nice site.

Super site. Large pitches and friendly people. A bit short on showers when busy, but the owners are trying to address this subject to planning restrictions. However they are clean and well kept. Very well run site, close to canal and pub, but far enough not to be noisy.
We will be back.
Thanks for a lovely holiday.
