Love this campsite. Great setting, a very steep but picturesque 20 minutes walk to the beach, cafe and pub, 30 minutes on way back as uphill.
Basic but perfectly adequate and spotless facilities including a hot shower at no extra cost.
Owners Becky and Jake are very friendly and helpful and on a Friday night make absolutely delicious pizza on site, not to be missed! Quiet, no background traffic noise and wonderful dark, starry skies.
You'll need your lantern as there's no electricity so no lights in the loos. Wetsuit and body board hire available in the beach cafe, the surf was amazing.
Views from the coastal path are absolutely dramatic, lots of beautiful beaches nearby. We were there over the August bank holiday weekend and although the site was full there was plenty of space and didn't feel too busy.
Lovely quiet campsite which is everything I believe camping should be, lots of space, beautiful surroundings, beach in walking distance, clean facilities and very helpful and friendly campsite owners.
Would highly recommended to all that enjoy camping!
Just spent a wonderful weekend at Crackington Campsite (Hellagather), it’s the near perfect campsite with beautiful views of the coast and the sea (from one of the fields) and lots of space. The 2 Loos were clean and the shower was also clean worked very well. I believe that this a fairly new site so they just gearing up and will grow as demand dictates.
Jake and Becky were great hosts -very down to earth and approachable and were only too happy to advise on any questions about walks and the area in general.
If you are after a campsite with all the amenities and lots of local attractions then this is not the campsite for you (go to a caravan park). However, if you like to walk on the wild side and love nature and beautiful views it can’t be faulted.
I think this is one of our favourite campsites, and we will definitely be coming again.
Becky and Jake run a peaceful and relaxing campsite off the beaten track (1 large grass field, nicely soft underfoot for placing tent pegs.
About 30 mins walk along a public foot path from Crackington Haven (10mins in the car). No electric hook-ups but you can choose your pitch (£18 per night for tent, 12 sq ft awning, car, 2 adults & 1 child).
Rustic and basic facilities (2 toilets, each with a small sink, 1 shower room with ample hot water, all very clean and toilet paper replaced regularly). 2 sinks with draining boards and hot/ cold water for washing up.
Firepits available to hire for £4 and a big bag of firewood for £5. Jake and Becky are very friendly and helpful, they regularly pop by to check all is well and have good knowledge of the area. It would be good to have a hot tap in the sink in the shower room, and maybe a strip mowed in the centre of the field for the kids to play football/ cricket.
Crackington Village Shop & Post Office is about 5mins drive away in Crackington Village, Bude is the nearest large town (approx 12 miles) which has major supermarkets. Coombe Barton Inn at Crackington Haven serves nice food and broad selection of beers and wines.
There is also a café which is rather unfriendly (don't use cards as they charge 50p and round up to the nearest full £1, so you end up paying even more!) and a small gift shop. Crackington Haven is good for the beach, rock pooling, boarding. Carry a lot of £1 coins for parking or if you have T-Mobile/ EE get the Cornwall Parking app.
You can pick up the South Coast Path from Crackington Haven to Boscastle (7 miles, approx 4-5hrs), or the bus to Boscastle or Camelford, which runs 3 times a day. We had a wonderful time and would go again.
