This is a very well thought out site, the Chatterbox Folly is a fantastic idea, every site should have one, by law. The site is the extremely clean and tidy, the pitches are a good size, we had pitch 5, which is a grass pitch with masses of space around it, electric, water and grey waste seemed to be on most of the pitches (all had electric).
There are lots little touches around the site, that have obviously been well thought out, for example people with dogs there are dog waste bins with poo bag dispensers alongside, and a little dog walk in a wooded area for the dog to sniff about in, the lights, garden ornaments, benches and picnic tables are a lovely touch, the outdoor fire pit, tee pee for the kids, the star of the show the chatterbox folly to name but a few. Very safe for the kids, as the whole site is surrounded by a fence, and the main gate is electrically operated.
I have seen a few comments about the eco toilet, don't be put off, it is absolutely fine, no smells, clean and as good as a conventional toilet.
If you are staying in this area, book here, you won't be disappointed, you will not find a better site, and at such a reasonable price
Very friendly and creative owners who work hard to offer a unique experience with Eco features as well as a cosy hut to toast marshmallows and meet other campers. You'll not be disappointed if you are looking for a base to explore the Berwick area. Try to find time to visit Coldingham Bay near St Abbs. We didn't have children with us so not able to comment.
Think this could become one of our favourite sites. Admittedly we did have it to ourselves so the bird life was a constant source of fascination, as was the Dingly Dell with its delightful cabin where we could have toasted marshmallows. Very pleasant and helpful owners. Great to have water and waste with no fetching and carrying. Everywhere very clean, Good recycling provision. Very level.
Loads of places to go - we liked Berwick a lot with its windy walls - check out the Patisserie Mielle for dog lovers (and cake lovers) and the Maltings cinema, great food there too. Paxton House a lovely day out with a boat trip on the beautiful Tweed. Lovely walks along the river quite close, fro the Chain Bridge or Fishwick Mains. Further afield we like Melrose and the Abbey a good visit with audio guides. Lovely beaches - Coldingham is pretty. Do not miss the butcher's shop at Norham - awesome, check out the wild boar sausages. Our only reservations were that there was no dogwalk except the road immediately from the site and on the Friday night there was some noise from the residents of a cabin over the fence. Super site though and will have a toilet block soon.
Just returned from this site. 2 adults and 2 dogs. On arrival we were met by the very friendly owners who quickly processed the booking and showed us to a choice of hard standing pitches. There are security gates at the entrance to the site. The pitch was fully serviced and very spacious. The site is flat and very well maintained.
There is currently no toilet/shower block provided but the owners advised that these would be provided during the season.
The site is ideal for visiting the Berwick area. A very peaceful and enjoyable site which we intend to visit again and excellent value for money.
Strathmore is a quiet, immaculate site in the borders, within a short drive of the A1. Easy to reach for an overnight visit if you are travelling north or south, but much better enjoyed for a longer stay. There is so much to do and see nearby, including Paxton house, Berwick, Spittal, Kelso, Coldingham and the stunning river Tweed which is a short walk through fields away. The setting of the site itself is beautiful, surrounded by trees, with views of the Cheviots, and with so much wildlife to watch you don't really need to venture far. The site is managed by the friendly helpful owners who can advise on the local amenities. The pitches have water and electricity, and there is a security gate. There is not a loo/shower block as it is intended for caravans and camper vans only, so that is not an issue. Go, it's too good to miss.
