Loved the location, especially the remoteness. Stepping out of the tent right onto the lakeside was perfect.

Facilities are very minimal but that suited us fine, and we loved that the site was uncrowded with no set pitches.

The staff were really friendly and helpful.

 Beautiful spot on the lake!

Stayed for one night, there was other families and campers spread out but was very peaceful. If your lucky you can pitch very close to the water or there are a few hard standing spots, the rest are grass.

Great for water sports, canoeing/ paddle boarding etc

Facilities are very basic but do the job, would definitely return!

Safe secure site with a fantastic view right next to the lake. Unpaved road to access but nothing too bad if you take it slowly.

Basic showers/toilet block which only had cold water when we visited - not sure if this is normal or just a blip.

Prompt response to a question about the toilets but due to social distancing we didn't see any site reps so can’t comment on this.

We had the company of sheep on our last night which might have been due to someone leaving a gate open! Very quiet site.

 Nice site.

Have 3.5 ton motorhome, told to use hard standing. Which I duly did reversed in front end sank up to the axel. Built on cow muck or similar, shale on plastic type sheet on exceptional soft ground. Good job some nice people helped me out by jacking it up and it digging out.

So be careful if you are going to use this site

Lovely site with great lakeside views and peace and quiet.

A long walk for facilities and rubbish bins. Another tap would be a good idea.

But, location for views and quiet hard to beat

Popular Choice in this Area

Fisherground Campsite - Eskdale

Nestling in the beautiful Eskdale Valley close to Scafell, England's highest mountain and Wastwater, this site is a children's paradise in the heart of the Lake District. The first thing that meets you on arrival is the pond, fed by a stream and usually full of children paddling and playing on tyre rafts. The playground has zip wires, climbing frames, tyre rope-swings and adventure courses.

Grass pitches (some with EHU) for tents, motorhomes, VW-sized campervans (no caravans). Refurbished toilets, showers and laundry. Peace is the watchword on the campsite - catering mainly for families and couples with silence after 10.30pm. Don't forget your marshmallows - campfires are allowed in selected areas. Nearby shop and pub. And there's an added extra: the site sits along the route of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway line, with it's own station. Choo Choo! Find out more here

What a great little off grid site this is.

We pitched right by the lake. Not even 6ft away from the water's edge

The weather was good but the lake was epic. We've already booked to go back next weekend.

An amazing view from the campsite right on the waters edge. Toilets are a bit of a trek but the little woodland path was nice. It was really muddy during our stay so you need wellies to get to the toilets.

My main bugbear is the track to the campsite. My car has low clearance (sadly it's a toyota auris not a ferrari) especially when fully loaded with camping gear.

The track was not great, quite stressful trying to avoid the ruts, gravel ramps and big rocks from hitting the bottom of my car. It needs some attention.

We used one of the hard based green tents in an adjacent field to the main site. Was brilliant in the strong winds and rain, very spacious for the 3 of us and all our stuff.

Boggy areas need some stones on them as many cars and vans were struggling. Open fires Allowed and needed to warm up!

Near clean toilets and hot showers, no power points. 2 big sinks to wash up. Fantastic lake access and walks.

Very friendly and helpful staff, especially duty manager Steve. He kindly inflated grandsons bike tyre and advised on walks.

Loved our stay despite the horrid weather and will be back.

Directly by lake Windermere on a great site with beautiful views - relaxed site - self check in by txt (you will be sent details by email prior to your stay), find your own spot, pitch up and enjoy your stay.

Toilets were a little walk away which was absolutely fine for us.

Very good for a very chilled overnight stay

Brilliant, what a fantastic site. So relaxed, perfect for families.

Great for water sports, kayaking, paddle boarding. Clean and friendly.

Great for dogs who like to swim too.
