This lovely site has been built up & developed from scratch by the owners own ideal of what a campsite should be like, having enjoyed several years camping earlier in their lives. We really enjoyed our recent 10 night stay on this friendly, level and spacious site. It was quiet, spotlessly clean around the park & the toilets regularly maintained/cleaned. Every day that was dry, we could hear the lawn mower keeping the grass tidy and clearly the owners take pride in their site. We valued the clear policy on dog ownership responsibilities and areas that were restricted for the health & enjoyment of all visitors. This resulted in us not seeing any dog mess in the pitching area or the fishing lakes. Specific dog walking areas are provided and sufficient.
The site enjoys unusual near zero light pollution and enabled us to maximise our enjoyment of the annual meteor shower.
For wildlife enthusiasts we saw around 24 different species of moths, lizards (on path adjacent to site), various butterflies and plenty of dragonflies, damselflies and bees etc. We saw many fishing folk enjoy the lakes area. The children's simple play area was very much enjoyed by our 9 yr old. Of the sites we have visited over the years, this gets our top spot and we commend the owners for their site.
I don’t normally write reviews, but feel I need to write this, as a review on here made by Fisherman 50 just doesn’t make any sense, to the experience I had whilst staying there.
We stayed on Perran Springs from the 27th July to the 7th August with our 2 dogs. The site is dog friendly and so are the owners, one of the owners really liked our dog and was stroking our dog whilst suggesting what attractions and beaches we could take our dogs to, which we found very helpful.
The comment made does not match my experience. You are allowed to walk dogs around most of the campsite on a lead, as we did every day and night, along with everyone else who had a pet. The only areas where dogs are not allowed are around the shop, toilet facilities, the fishing lakes or play field. Which as a dog owner I can respect and can see the reasons why. I don’t think I would like to see a dog in the shop which is selling food, or around, or in the shower block where small children may be, and this is obviously why these rules are in place. Also I’m a keen fisherman and wouldn’t want my dogs or any other dog barking or roaming around whilst I’m fishing.
The footpath is literally at the bottom of the campsite, just through a gate and goes for at least 2 miles across lanes and fields where the dogs can be taken off the lead and can run around, so they had plenty of exercise here, as well as on Perranporth Beach. I saw other dog owners, like myself, walking their dogs around the park on a lead. In fact I spoke to a couple of dog owners on the site who commented on how well run the campsite was, and how convenient the dog walk below the campsite was.
This is a dog friendly campsite and I will certainly return. The owners cater for dogs and non-dog owners and I feel they have found a good balance of where the dogs can and cannot go, in order to keep all their customers happy. The facilities are extremely clean and surpass what you would expect on a campsite.
What a fantastic place! We stayed for a week, with 3 little ones (aged 5, 6 and7) and were very impressed with the campsite. The owners and staff were very helpful and friendly, they even offered to help us with the tent! They were happy to advise us which beaches were quietest (and which cakes were the nicest in the shop too!) The lakes and surroundings were beautiful, and very well maintained. The lake was beautifully stocked, and the fish looked very healthy.
The showers and toilets were kept very clean, and the children's play area was spotless, any stray tissues etc were soon picked up.
Our pitch was a great size, and even when all the other pitches surrounding ours were taken we still had plenty of room and privacy.
I can totally recommend this campsite, we had a wonderful time and cannot wait to go again next year.
We picked this site as they said they were dog friendly. The site had nowhere to walk your dog apart from a public footpath at the back of the site. On arrival my daughter needed to use the facilities so I walked out dog on a short lead down to the reception area and was promptly told that you are not allowed to walk your dogs around the site.
Apart from the above the site was good, nice level roomy pitches. The shower block was adequate but clean. Would like to have seen more hand dryers - only one in the mens block.
Enjoyed our stay but next time will find a site that IS dog friendly!
Management response: We do not understand this review, as all guests in booking, agree to abide by our conditions.
The dog/pet conditions are on our website for all to read before they decide to take their holiday with us. The pet section of our website also contains local pet information which guests may find useful.
We would suggest that Fisherman 50 should read the conditions in future before booking any other park.
This our third visit to this site with the first one being back in 2006. Aside from a change in pitches with caravans being put next to the toilet block (one has to ask why) the same high standards were present as on our previous two visits. Shower/toilet facilities are first class and kept very very clean and tidy. The pitches are spacious enough though and the site is quiet, ideal for families and those wanting chilled camping.
We arrived the day after Cornwall had suffered a huge downpour and as a result the tent pitch was soggy under foot. The squelch factor was not fun, there were no actual leakages just an unpleasant feeling under foot. Talking to the camp site folks they are shutting at end Sept to install better drainage but in all fairness the downpour in question had been extreme.
The site is 10 minutes drive from Perranporth and has easy access for anywhere in Cornwall really. Tintagel is 40 mins drive north, Lands End about the same to the south though traffic can make that drive much longer !.
So is this site recommended? Absolutely, yes. It is brilliantly run and over three visits spread across six years has always proved a pleasure to stay at.
After a terrific holiday camping at Perran Springs last year we thought we would 'live it up a little' in 2012 and holiday in one of the fixed caravans available on site. The 'van was very clean with excellent facilities and soon became a real home from home. The site was in very good condition and Brenda and Mike made us feel very welcome. The beach is a 10 mins drive and there are local shops and a pub approximately 10 mins walk away. We were very lucky with the weather and had an absolutely fabulous holiday. All things being well we will return in 2013.
This site is Great for Families, especially if you like nature reserves/wildlife walks, cycling and fishing.
It is Dog friendly so long as the owners are responsible and sensible with their pets, we took our dog and had no problems at all with her or other dogs on the site ( of which there were around eight at the time we stayed )
There are strict limits to where the pets can go, ie. Not near the shop or toilet/laundry, fishing lakes etc, for obvious reasons) and they must be tethered on site at all times, there is also a nice footpath running alongside the site to exercise them.
The site itself has very clean and well presented facilities (Showers and toilets appeared to be spotless every time we used them which made for all the more pleasant stay) also a neat and again spotless laundry with self dosing washing machines so no need to take your own soap/conditioner. (Wash sparingly though as at a fiver a load, some may find it to be a little expensive).
They also have adequate recycling facilities and a chest freezer for your ice packs, accessible 24/7.
We were at the far end of the site with other dog owners close to the lakes, footpath and children's play area which although small seemed to be fun enough to amuse our 5 year old daughter and many others for hours.
The pitches ( as we were in a tent ) were great, mostly flat with the option of electric hook up. There were other tents, trailer tents, caravans/tourers on the site all spaced apart enough for a good sized tent/caravan/motorhome plus car and area to stretch out in the mornings with drinking water and hot and cold washing basins conveniently situated all over the site, there is also a shop on site with the basic essentials and also bait and tackle available for the fishing crowd to buy.
The owners were Happy, pleasant to talk to and helpful but also understandably strict with some of the campsite regulations, which are all there for good reason.
5 minutes drive to the Beautiful Coastal village/small-town of Perranporth which has a great dog friendly attitude and 3 miles of great sandy beaches with good surf and sports, great dunes and headland to explore too.
15 minutes drive to Newquay if you prefer the nightlife.
This is a much overlooked little gem of a site, ideal for families with or without dogs who like the peace and quiet of the countryside and don't want the sometimes unwanted disturbances a clubhouse and on-site bar and entertainment centre can bring but want to be close enough for a short drive into town or to the beach. There is a Pub, grocery store and post office 10 minute walk away from the site entrance and good bus links very close by.
We will definitely be returning to Perran Springs.
A wonderful family run campsite, with everyone on site, (and there is always someone available) being ever so helpful in every way possible.
The toilets were very clean, at any time of the day. The three fishing lakes are fantastic, extremely beautiful with plenty of fish to be caught, again always someone to assist when it comes to catching and what bait to use.
The nature trail is great, my nephews had me running all over the place. Supermarket and pubs all within 10-20 minutes. Finally you are in Cornwall it is beautiful. I can't speak highly enough of the family run site, we will be back.
