A lovely quiet site which is as described on the website and just what we wanted for a relaxing few days. Spotlessly clean everywhere and very thoughtfully laid out.
The owner did his very best to fit us in and even found another pitch for us when we found that our vehicle was too high to get into the designated pitch.
We found none of the problems which other visitors have found with the site not being level.
All in all a very quiet site which we will definitely visit again. Yes, if one wanted to be super critical, there could be more loos but it really didn't spoil our break.
If you like playgrounds, a shop and the facilities that go with big sites this isn't a site for you. We chose Polglaze because we tend to prefer the smaller, quieter type of site and boy did this meet the bill.
The site is set in a beautiful field with hydrangeas scattered about and the farmhouse at the bottom of the driveway. Attached to this farmhouse are two shower washrooms and a family bathroom. These are the only wash facilities on site.
This does mean an occasional wait for one to become free when the site is busy, but the wait is well worth it. You get plenty of hot water for the shower, a wash basin and a toilet in a clean tiled room with under floor heating! How many camp sites can you say that about?
The site is very close to the lovely village of Fowey, you can walk it, although there are very few footpaths next to the roads and it can be quite steep depending on which route you take. It is well located for the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan plus many other attractions. There is a small shop at a nearby garage, but there is a Tesco and Asda in St Austell not too far away.
This site is great for couples and young families, beautifully kept. Just don't tell lots of people!
Had a great week here this August, first trip to this part of Cornwall. This is a great campsite if you want a bit of peace and quiet. Alan, the owner, does not encourage lively parties of people and asks that noise if kept to a respectful minimum. And it works a treat. No boozy all nighters keeing you awake (this makes me sound ancient. This was me once, honest!). The facilities are fine, well appointed showers (hot water) and even a bath you can rent out in the evenings. The only issues are that there is only two of them, so queueing in the mornings is common especially on hotter days. The site itself is on a bit of a slope, depending on the pitch you get, it can lead to sliding about a bit. But for us the calm atmosphere made up for it.
Fowey is lovely. If you want to eat out and have a beer, try the Safe Harbour pub on the way into the town. Great food (excellent mussles, lovely peoepl and cheaper than the town centre. You can walk in about 20 mins, but take a torch. There's loads of great walks, and if the sun shines it's worth clambering down to the Lantic Beaches (via the Hall Walk). Really don't bother visiting St. Austall though. It's has nothing to recommend it and should be bulldozed immediately. Head east and north instead.
Our family of 4 have just spent a week at Polglaze campsite and we were very pleased with our choice. It is a quiet friendly campsite, no clubs, or play areas, which is just what we were looking for. The owner was very helpful and informative about the local attractions etc.
The toilets and showers are of a high standard and were always kept clean, which is a credit to the site. My only comment would be that as the toilets and showers are together in their own individual rooms, (apart from one) first thing in a morning, toilets were quite busy as people were showering whilst others were queuing for that early morning visit to the loo!
However, this would not deter me from visiting the site again or recommending it to family and friends. It is very conveniently placed to visit many places, beaches and attractions in the area and with local shops, takeaways and launderette facilities in the town just down the road was just perfect for us.
This is a pretty site with a lovely view from everywhere on the site over towards the Fowey estuary. You cant actually see the estuary but its still a lovely view.
Basic site, but very clean and tidy. Had only 2 units with showers and a toilet in, one separate toilet and a separate bathroom with a toilet in as well.In the mornings, although the bathroom was open, there was a notice to say that you couldn't have a bath or shower. I suspect that this was due to not really having enough water for everyone on site in the peak morning time. There were often queues which was a little irritating but there you go.
Site slopes a lot but we found that when you used bricks to prop up the front legs of tables you quickly got used to it. There seemed to be bricks around just for this purpose .Very peaceful site. Nothing going on. We were very lucky with glorious weather so that always helps.
One thing I did notice, Cornish roads are not very pleasant to walk on. Nothing to do with the scenery, just the narrowness of the roads, the traffic and the constant need to leap into hedges. You are always listening out for the next car which makes it less than relaxing. Much better when you can walk off-road.
With sea and countryside views, Tregarton Park is ideal for couples or families with younger children, given its relaxed seclusion and proximity to so many of Cornwall's fine safe sandy beaches. Large grass and hardstanding pitches with electric, divided by hedging and shrubs, perfect for tents and tourers. No statics! Superb toilet and shower block with large glass shower cubicles operated by motion sensors with ceiling mounted shower heads, laundry room, baby changing station.
This peaceful park is home to an outdoor heated swimming pool with waiter service, tennis court, adventure playground, outdoor football table, table tennis, pool table, large shop and take away service. FREE WiFi, dog walking meadow. Pentewan Beach is just five minutes away! Find out more here
Stayed here for a weekend. Basically a field for the caravan with electric. Quiet site as no facilities and a good walk into the town of Fowey which is a lovely town. Had a good weekend and very peaceful as we were the only people left on the field at the end of the weekend. Would go again as I now know the site and I'd ask for a more even pitch. Reasonable priced.
Owner's response
Farley notes that the site is uneven, as are all of the sites at Fowey as it is a part of the local geography, which we show on our website. It should be noted our site though not entirely level is one of the better ones in the area, and we are actual able to offer some flat level pitches, but they did not ask for this or indicate that it was required.
A nice site, we arrived with our 6 berth family tent early afternoon and were soon shown around by friendly (family?) guy at reception.
Nice quiet site, no pub or club house, not for people who need entertaining, which is just what we wanted. Nothing worse than being woken by inconsiderate noisy revellers on their way back from the disco at these huge "family sites"! It would appear to be one largish field which is opened during late July and all of August. There is one static caravan for rent.
My only criticism would be that there could be more shower/toilet facilities. There are three toilets, but two are combined with showers, which means just three cubicles, and although the site was very quiet when we were there; several times we were waiting to use the facilities.
Owner's response
Toilet and showering facilities are of a very high standard. We do not fill the site to its potential capacity, having a deliberate policy of limiting numbers to enhance the quality of the stay
