August 2003 I visited this site with a group of friends looking for a relaxed weekend on a campsite where we weren't worried about rules all the time. We wanted somewhere where we wouldn't have too many families to worry about. Not that we wanted to have a wild party (we didn't), but we just wanted to be able to relax. Plus we wanted to be able to have a campfire in the evenings.
The site is just a field, it is reasonably flat on one side, then banks steeply to the ditch, so there is not room for more than say 20 tents tops. This is unlikely to be a problem, as the site is in a rather rural location, and though we stayed over August bank holiday (the busiest weekend of the year) there was only one other tent there (for one night only).
There is no shower or bath, but the toilet and sink are in the cottage, so not your usual out of doors freezing cold water type affair. There is a jacuzzi under construction in one of the out buildings. Not sure when it will be complete, but that would just add to the slightly quirky nature of the place.
The owner keeps pygmy goats in the field next to the campsite, which she encourages you to play with, and there are several of the most friendly horses I have ever met in another adjacent field.
The site is not on any major walking routes, it is not near a town or village (only a couple of miles though) and it doesn't have any facilites to speak of, but I had the best camping weekend there because the owner was incredibly friendly and accomodating, it was cheap and we had bonfires every night. I would recommend it to like minded people without any hesitation.
