Just spent 2 nights here. Site has no facilities, apart from Reception but does have wi-fi. The wardens were very friendly and helpful and we even got some free poo bags and biscuits for the dogs.
There are two areas – one open glade surrounded by trees with a mixture of electric non-electric pitches, the other is in the forest with no electric. There is a very large open recreation ground which I exercised my dog on, but I’m not sure if you would be able to do this at busy times as people are allowed to pitch on this area as well.
It was very peaceful and didn’t feel overcrowded, but appeared a little shabby and the grass, although mown, was very dusty in places. There was an adventure play area for children which proved popular and because it was in the forest did not impact on others.
We were pleasantly surprised how close the site was to the river but were disappointed to find that only one path had been cut to walk on and this was in very dense vegetation. Apparently the other walks were due to be cut that weekend but considering its nearly July I would have expected this to have been done. Obviously the site is surrounded by forest so there are plenty of other places to walk.
Typically we only had the pick of 3 pitches as we didn’t arrive until late evening on the Friday, two of which were unsuitable due to our satellite so that left just the one, which although had excellent satellite reception, was completely in shade after 12 noon and had a lovely electric substation opposite which constantly hummed!
We paid £16.00 per night for 2 adults, 2 dogs, electric and an awning, which I felt a little high considering it has no other facilities. I was surprised to learn there is an additional £5.00 charge to park in the visitors car park overnight, even though we had paid for the visitors to stay overnight on our pitch – a bit cheeky?
Worth noting is that the service facilities, water etc., are difficult to get to with a motorhome because they are set in the forest areas.
This is a fairly basic site, the only facilities provided are waste disposal and bins. There is electric hook-up.
The price is for two adults, each additional child or adult costs extra. We stayed a Friday and Saturday night in September 2 adults and one child, it cost us £32.
The site is beside the river Thet. There is a small shop and a play area. There are walks on the site. High Lodge, Thetford is about 10 miles up the road.
We will definitely stay again as this sight is quite local to us.
A pleasant forestry commission site on the banks of the river Thet. The campsite is split in two, a wooded area and an open area, We stayed in the field site as some of the woodland pitches seemed fairly small. The wardens told us there is a large overflow area next to the river which is opened during peak season although this appeared not to have any facilities apart from fire points.
Reception closes at 5pm so as we arrived after this we chose a pitch without ehu and booked in the following morning. The cost of a pitch was £7 +£2.50 for a hookup if required. The wardens were friendly and helpful and kept the site very tidy. The site has forest walks and an abundance of wildlife.
There are no toilet facilities on the site and the ehu's were grouped in a central area in the open field but most seemed to have been taken by seasonal lets. The water and chemical disposal points although plentiful were impossible to get a motorhome to for filling the water tank in the field area as they are set in the surrounding trees and manoeuvring would have been impossible even if there had been sufficient headroom, so we had to fill in the woodland site where we found only one of taps we could use because of the location of the facilities. Obviously this is not a problem for caravans with aquarolls, etc.
Will probably visit again for a weekend but will fill the water tank before leaving home next time.
