Fabulous place off the beaten track, surrounded by nothing but countryside, lovely walks and thatched cottages. Stayed for just one night mid week so it was very quiet.
Lovely, friendly pub with it's own brewery, (great ale. ) Flat field, well maintained site, no hook up but not an issue for a night or two, loos and washing up area clean and the eco solar shower was lovely and hot.
Great value and beautiful location, well worth a look.
This site was recommended to us by friends and it did not disappoint. In fact we stayed on for a couple of extra days. It was very peaceful. All you could hear upon waking was birdsong. The field is level and we were able to 'park' where we wanted. We used our own facilities most of the time but because we were using the caravan battery (no hook up) we did need to use the showers one day which were quite good.
The pub is very friendly and it has only very recently had a new landlord. The attached brewery supplied many different ales which we enjoyed. We only ate in the pub one night and we were very pleased with the burger deal. The vegetarian option was very tasty too. Many people were eating there on other nights.
There were many places to walk our dog, either using the public footpaths around the pub or across the road through the Millennium Field.
A fabulous site on a level field which was well maintained. We did find a mallet a rather handy tool. The site is sheltered by trees and hedges. The surrounding area is lovely with plenty of good walking to be done. The village of Kersey is well worth the walk.
The site belongs to the pub and can be a bit busier at weekends. We spent a wonderful 2 days here midweek and then went back again at the weekend which was some what busier. The pub is fantastic with many home brewed ciders and beers. Would particularly recommend their elderflower cider.
There is a small wind turbine on site, this is turned off at night and starts again around 9. 00 am so don't be put off by this. The hot water was produced by solar power for the washing up area and the showers, this was very hot.
My only negative comment would be that the toilets could perhaps be cleaned more often. Tip, take your own loo paper. Would we return? yes we already have!
We would also just like to thank the owners for organising the Suffolk Seven, great event and we really enjoyed the day, despite it being so hot! Many thanks.
This is a campsite behind a lovely pub in a very quiet location with good facilities. It's a bit tricky to find - make sure you have directions to hand!
The camping field is level and you can pitch where you like. There are two self-catering chalet cottages behind the camping field and you can see a few houses in the village adjacent to the field.
The shower and toilet facilities are reasonably modern - one shower and one loo for the ladies and one shower and one loo for the men. There was plenty of hot water but the showers and loos could have done with cleaning. (We were there on a Sunday night and it looked like they had not been cleaned since at least the night before e. G. The bins were overflowing).
There was plenty of hot water washing up, too, (the washing-up area was out in the open and would be exposed in bad weather).
The pub is lovely - old-fashioned and with its own brewery and a great bar billiards table. You can try a 'sampling set' with a selection of the beers. The food was fantastic - really interesting menu, beautifully presented and good value. The service was informal and friendly.
It was a good value and pleasant site and we loved it there and would return. But it is the type of site for a one or maybe two night stay - not a base for a longer stay due to the basic facilities.
Just got back from this years “Dark Ales Days” beer festival. Great beers, food, music, and to top it off, the sun shone all weekend!
Nothing materially has changed since I last reviewed the White Horse in June 2009 and May 2012, so to avoid repetition, I’ll just comment on the negatives mentioned in the previous two reviews:
Rubbish disposal was not a problem this time, but yes, the hot water did run out from time to time and perhaps the facilities could have been mopped out a little more often. Whilst the facilities are modern and well fitted there were about 25 pitches occupied, so you would expect two toilets and two showers not to be sufficient for the morning rush. However, I managed to walk straight into the shower without waiting. (Albeit two cold ones; maybe that was why!)
To sum up: As long as you are not preoccupied by the facilities, the White Horse remains the best ‘pub site’ I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Cheers 10/10!
Went for a weekend meeting up with friends and families with children. Arrived on the Friday for 2 nights. Despite a high number of campers the toilets were only cleaned on Sunday morning.
Rubbish bins had been emptied but then the black bags just left to join an already large pile just 5 feet away.
There is only one loo each for women and men and one shower. This meant queues each morning.
The hot water for washing up had run out by 9am.
On the Saturday night a band were playing in the pub. Although this didn't disturb us, the campsite is not 'marked' or gated from the pub car park, so visitors to the pub parked around the campsite. This meant a lot of noise of both people and cars when they started leaving from 11pm for the next hour.
A lovely location, great food and beer in the pub, but not the best site.
Was quite busy when we turned up, but pitched the tent with no problems. Showering was a problem that evening, with just 1 shower and a full field, we gave up and went to the pub. Got up nice and early hoping to shower before the crowds, but alas it was not to be. So it became a shower watch and then Olympic run to get showered. Not such a problem when only a few tents, but could do with more than 2 toilets (1 mens/1 womens) and 1 shower.
Nice food and beer, no complaints, except no food served on Sunday or Monday evenings, and as we went for the long bank holiday we got caught out and had to walk to the next village (as we wasn't told about the no food situation until we had out drinks in hand)
Not sure I would choose this site in peak season due to lack of facilities.
We stayed 3 nights for their “Dark Ales Days” beer festival which featured 30 +, mostly dark beers, all of which were outstanding. My personal favourites were Green Jack’s Baltic Trader (now that’s how beer should taste!), and TSA’s Double Espresso Stout (now that’s how coffee should taste!)
Nothing materially has changed with the site since I last reviewed it in June 2009. So, in order to avoid repetition, save for two additional details, I am happy reconfirm my previous observations and agree with all the subsequent reviews.
• Firstly despite the wettest April for 100 years, the ground had not become boggy, and people like me with a ‘4x2’ had no trouble getting on and off site.
• Secondly, very dog friendly (no charge), with excellent dog walks on the footpaths all around the site.
To sum up: Peaceful / rural location; great pub, beers, food and events; mature / sensible fellow campers. If anybody can suggest a better ‘pub site’, I would like to hear about it. Cheers - 10/10!
Very lovely little site in a lovely part of the countryside, lovely little pub too, with excellent choice of ales and good food, plus they had some bands on which was nice! only thing is I didn't feel the barstaff were very friendly but it wasn't really an issue!
The toilet/shower block was perfectly adequate but it was a little untidy and ran out of loo roll! Again this wasn't really a massive problem to me and I just put it down to it being a bank holiday!
The site was very relaxed, and would definitely go again!
