We were struggling to find a site in the New Forest which had both availability and electric hook up to allow us to test out our new caravan more fully. We almost discounted this site due to the negative reviews but we are glad that we didn't.
The Main field slopes such that you have to really raise the front legs on your van so chocks are necessary.
The toilets are basic but clean. The shower is warm and refreshing - although it does occasionally lose pressure with a warm surge following.
The best part of the site is the views that you get in the evening. The sun sets behind some trees which is great to watch.
It is only a couple of minutes walk from the forest which is great for walking around.
In short, this is a great site offering exceptional value in a lovely part of the New Forest
We stayed here on two successive nights whilst overnighting on the way to the Isle of Wight.
There's no denying that this is a basic, no-frills site - but then I guess there aren't many places where you can camp amidst the stunning beauty of the New Forest for £12-per-night all-in.
The site is approached down a narrow drive way that is only just wide enough for a large caravan (and God forbid that you meet one coming the other way!) and is situated on a pronounced sideways slope, of the the sort which is sometimes the most difficult on which to level a caravan properly. In addition, some of the hook-up points are located at uneven intervals, which meant our 25-metre cable only just about reached to one from where our caravan was situated.
The toilets are located in an annexe to the proprietor's house through a garden gate watched over by a friendly little Cairn terrier. We found them warm and clean (although they would benefit from a towel or a hand dryer). However, I never did find the Elsan point, which must be hidden somewhere beneath the adjacent bushes, shrubs and garden plants. Therefore, I confess I emptied our tray down the toilet. Meanwhile, we used our own caravan shower, having observed the note on the drinking water tap that urges users to check no one is in the site shower before turning it on!
With regard to other amenities, there is a small village store in Landford (about a mile away). Otherwise, it would appear that Salisbury and Southampton are where the nearest main supermarkets are to be found.
On a more positive note, the site is slap bang in the middle of a charming New Forest village, with cows and semi-wild horses grazing on the common and a superb pub (the Lamb Inn), which does great meals for about £10-per-head. Next door is a smart French restaurant for the more exclusive diner.
Across the common is Bramshaw Wood, which is large enough to be explored on a bike - although is best done so on foot on account of the quagmires, fallen trees and hidden tree stumps to be encountered on even the gravelled paths. Dog owners also need to be aware that there are wild pigs roaming the woods and adders often lurk in the undergrowth.
In summary, this is a cheap, basic site set amidst an enchanting rural setting, which although in need of a bit of TLC is still worth visiting - especially if you like being at one with the natural world.
Really good location for touring the new forest, but that's it. You get what you pay for and this is a cheap site. In need of major improvement.
The shower stops completely if a toilet is flushed or a tap turned on, resulting in scalding hot water when it comes back on. Not advisable to send the kids up on their own.
Toilets are 'mingin'. Chemical waste disposal is under a plastic manhole removable with the attached piece of electrical cable.
Play area is soon taken over by an excess of tents and adjacent field is out of bounds due to horses.
The grass is not cut short enough and the clippings are not collected so that grass is trodden into your tent, camper, caravan.
Will definitely go back to the new forest, but not this site unless it has a very much needed revamp.
Our first camping trip and with a 2 and 3 year old. Lovely site, great location. Only very small but that is what I liked about it, our kids could leave the tent and run around without fear of them going to far or getting lost.
Camp owner is a little strange, but after paying we never saw her.
Facilities basic, but did exactly what you want, clean and never a queue (in school hols to), what more could you ask.
Set in lovely village (amazing) and 10 mins to poultons park (peppa pig world).
Never woken by cockerel but our pesty kids had us up from 6am as they always do. Grass could have been cut a little shorter. Bargain £10 per Night only.
The Boys Loved waking up every morning and going out the tent to say 'good morning' to the horses in adjacent field.
Boys loved it so would recommend for families of small children wanting a quiet get away.
I always said I'd never go Camping, until I was persuaded to visit Carron Camping site back in 2010, we have returned numerous times since.
After my first visit, I was hooked, with so much to do and see in the local area.
The site itself is very small which suits me just fine, I believe just 5 Caravans and 5 Tents plus storage vans overlooking a field of horses in the middle of the Forest. You have a great pub a short walk away when you feel too lazy to cook.
The site has two toilets, a shower room and a washing up area all kept clean throughout the times we have stayed.
Set in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Mendip Hills. There are 90 grass and hardstanding pitches some with hookup, for tents, caravans and motorhomes. The well laid out site has excellent shower and toilet facilities, including a family room, plus a laundry room and a well-stocked licensed shop selling local produce. Non members are welcome to book!
You can walk to the village of Priddy where you`ll find a popular pub serving food and the Priddy Good Farm Shop, selling a range of locally produced food. There are many attractions in this area of Somerset and the south west including Bath and Weston-super-Mare, and the site is ideally located, midway between Cheddar Gorge and Wells. Easy to find and a great pub that provides sumptuous food 5 mins away but that's the best it gets! Only 2 loos and 1 shower which in feb is sufficient but wouldn't like to chance it in high season! ( I used my own shower but the other half went up there for a shower) Not very clean either, in the 4 days we stayed none of the facilities were cleansed! One sink to do the washing up if you're camping, not covered at all so open to the English weather. Two hardstandings , one of which is occupied by a permanent user. The owner is lovely however and very helpful and said she is just about to embark on a renovation programme. There is a cockerel in an adjacent field that decided to crow at 3am and 6. 30 am each and every morning so a peaceful nights sleep is out of the question.
We stayed only four nights but found the owner so helpful and have no complaints. Reading with the reviews already submitted we agree with 95% of them and enjoyed our stay which coincided with a visit on the cruise ship Azura including lunch. The children were amazed at the visit but really enjoyed seeing all the animals (100's) saying it was a fantastic holiday
The horses in the adjacent field interested everyone and the scenery was very attractive and the site was located like we felt we were in the middle of the New Forest. Every place of interest was so easy to reach and the Lamb Inn was very reasonably priced and the meals were delicious and very filling indeed. As for the pubs atmosphere it was brilliant it made one feel that you were one of the locals.
So what more can I say except get on down there and try it and you won't be disappointed with what you get for your money !
This is a fantastic site for exploring the New Forest area. At £10 per night for EHU with Free showers it will take some beating. We originally booked for three nights but ended up staying for two weeks (apart from a short trip to the Isle of Wight.
Toilets and showers are clean. The site is well kept with each plot having its own dustbin. There is a recycling area too. When you come out of the site there is a large village green with lots of New Forest ponies and cattle roaming free.
There is also a dog friendly pub which does good meals at reasonable prices. Mrs Keats the owner is very helpful and offered to loan us a hook up lead when ours started tripping the electrics. Luckily for us a very nice gentleman on the site fixed the lead for us so that saved us money too.
Recommend you visit Lyndhurst and read about Lewis Carroll and the Alice adventures - the 'Alice' in the books is buried in the churchyard here.
Would definitely go back if we holiday in the area again.
This is a small site, within reach of everything that the New Forest has to offer.
I chose this site based on its price and its size initially. I prefer a smaller site, as I like a quiet camping holiday and this site didn't disappoint. It sits next to a field with a couple of horses in it, and the houses along the road are visible, but don't really make you feel like the site is overlooked by them.
The facilities, although dated, were in reasonably good repair and mostly clean. There are two toilets, and one shower, which was adequate for the number of people on the site at the time. A clean water tap on the drive, means you don't have to trek all the way up to the facilities each time you need fresh drinking water.
There is a pub round the corner which does excellent food, but make sure you bring other supplies with you - the nearest shop took me 25 minutes to walk to, and it's only open during the day!
There are hardstandings on the site, but they are occupied by semi-permanent residents, and for storage, so don't rely on them being there. There are four electric hook ups.
In short, this is a great site for those looking for a quiet stay, and at £10, is an absolute bargain compared to most sites in the Forest.
