Really easy to find this campsite from the ferry port of Roscoff, only about a 20 minute drive. After a delay departing from Plymouth we finally arrived at the campsite around 9.30pm, there was someone waiting to show us to our pitch on arrival, very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was definitely the star attraction, kids just wanted to be in the pool all day, have to say it was really good (me not being a lover of swimming pools). Toilets and shower blocks spotlessly clean (no loo roll) and very modern. Sitting by the bar and the lit up pool in the evenings were fab, games room nearby for the kids. Shop sold a fairly good variety, go down early for the fresh croissants and baguettes, they were delicious! Pitch size was quite large, nicely hedged off. Only one let down was the surrounding area, not a lot in carantec itself, not enough places to eat although we did find a couple of restaurants and creperie by the beach out of town but were a bit pricey, you get a bit sick of eating pizza at the campsite! We stayed for a week and had lovely hot weather. Would definitely go back to this campsite again in the future, possibly staying a bit longer and venturing out to explore other parts of Brittany. Also it does look exactly as in the photos!
Overall the pitches on this site are far larger than I've come to expect in France - the pitches are in 2 main areas - the lower field has more hedges, is more private, and the pitches are a lot flatter. The other newer field is more sloping and pitches are somewhat larger - easy for even the largest of twin axles. We found it a bit difficult to get the van level but perseverance worked. As mentioned the bar is pricey and the food in-adequate. The swimming pool complex is on the whole quite reasonable but totally over-crowded when the weather is good. The overall feel of the place is that it is due a makeover/refurb because it is starting to look a a little jaded around the edges. The site mentions an adjacent beach - don't be fooled unless you like mud and gravel. The beaches in the town centre are far better. Wasn't too keen on Carantec personally - only a few restaurants and NOTHING to do when the weather is poor. Won't go again - not because it was bad - just because there was nothing outstanding to make me want to go back.
A very commercial site - the kids chose it for the swimming pool and slides which it delivered on, although the kids admitted on the way home they got a bit bored with them, and are just as happy in a straight forward pool. First pitch we were given was large but far too steep to safely pitch a twin axle van. To be fair they moved us although it took a bit of huffing and puffing. Pitches are a right mixed bag - small/large, sunny/shady, quiet/busy. Bar ok but a bit pricey. Pizzas were terrible. Local supermarket fine, big one 15 minute drive. Shower facilities were good. Carantec is a nice village worth a walk. Hot sunny days helped. Yes I'd go again but make sure I agreed pitch with them.
