Yes, it was really supposed to be winter time but it was surprisingly mild and calm and it took us by surprise to be up here overlooking the Gower and Swansea and Burryport. We were actually revisiting Pembrey Country Park for the Skiing and Pony riding and Forest cycling and Beach walking, but found we liked being able to easily pop into Llanelli for supplies and restaurants and takeaways. We were welcomed, even indulged, and felt relaxed enough to look forward to coming home for the night. A real place. Diolch yn fawr.
Lovely lovely site with plenty of space between caravans and incredible views over Gower and llanelli.
Owners very friendly and helpful. The site is listed as a CL but it is not, there are pitches for five and then further along another five (all with firm standing electric and a tap between two) plus the field is used by motor caravans and tents.
There is one toilet, a washing up shed ( cold water only so of limited use ) a skip for rubbish and a waste diposal point in the field with two more toilets and showers 300yds away by the farmhouse, quite a trek when it is raining.
Not sure what the previous complaints about rough track and narrow access roads are about, both are correct but this is rural Wales !
As I say a lovely site but I do find it annoying when sites are claimed to be a CL or CCL with the expectation of there only being five units on site when the reality is that they are just a normal campsite, this is not by any means rare but in this case it would not put me off revisiting.
We visiting this site in august with our big tent and 3 children. The field was beautifully maintained, with it being mowed daily. The toilet block on the field was clean and tidy, the washing up block on the field could benefit from hot water being provided though.
The main shower block was a short walk away and spotlessly clean at all times. There were good disabled facilities also.
Location was good, stunning views across the gower.
Plenty of space in the field for the children to play, helpful owners, we would return for sure.
Fantastic views over the Gower. A really quiet site almost no road noise. Everyone was friendly.
Has now got a washing up area but with only cold water! It is a long trek to the beautiful showers. It was easy to access some lovely country walks to local reservoir.
Near to Llanelli town centre and Trostre shopping park. Enjoyed a few nights here and would recommend just for the views and peace.
Loads of space between pitches could even play ball with my dog between the van and the neighbour.
Arrived in a Skoda Fabia, no problems with access, either route. Nice big open field, so lots of space. Bit of a trek to shower /toilet block, and nowhere to wash up, which I guess is ok if you're in a caravan, but a pain having to keep boiling water if you're in a tent like us, so a washing up block would be useful, as would a cubicle with a nice big sink, so you can wash face and brush teeth.
Free hot showers in the yard and two toilets. Lovely and clean. Also in the field is a toilet also clean. Soap and towel in the toilets.
Lovely flat site with a lovely view of the gower. We were quite surprised as this is Llanelli.
The site is just a small drive from civilisation, not far from an ASDA and also takeaways.
The owner was really friendly and was £10 for a tent per night for upto 4 people. Lovely and quiet.
Would stay here again. As regards the road to the site, I don't understand what the people complained about, its just a normal welsh hill and the track is just like a normal track, no potholes or mud etc. No problem with our car. So obviously the track has been done.
As mentioned in other reviews, access can be a bit tricky, but only having an estate with roofbox we found it to be ok. Shower block consisted of a toilet with basin, a shower room and another room with toilet, basin and large shower area providing unlimited amounts of FREE hot water. We found it to be very clean at all times. Only down-side was it was a trek from the camping field (about 200 yds). The field where we pitched did have a toilet in one corner but was unlit so torches were needed once it got dark. The views from the field were amazing! looking out over to the Gower peninsula was a joy! The site was very quiet (just the way we like it!) and there was plenty of room so the tents were not all on top of each other.
Our major problem was the weather, it was quite wet n windy but you can't hold that against the campsite!
Stayed at this site for two nights across weekend in late June. Excellent value for money, paid £12 per night for EHU, water connection adjacent to each pitch, awning, two berth caravan, 2 dogs & 2 adults. Each pitch (of which there were 9) is nice and big, lot's of space with hardstanding for caravan and separate hardstanding in front of caravan to park car(with access road between leading to pitches) Beautiful uninterrupted elevated views across river and sea. Nice VERY large grassed field - plenty of space. Showers are situated at entrance, adjacent to farmhouse and consist of large disabled shower area, with wash handbasin, chair, toilet and lovely large eletric 'Triton' shower (which is not on a timer) which was nice and powerful with lovely temperature control. Shower very roomy with folding shower door halfway with additional shower curtain. Large 'dry' area. In additon to this, there is another separate cubicle shower (with curtain) and separate 'dry' area of ample size with folding chair which is attached to wall. In separate room there is another toilet area with wash handbasin, which includes liquid soap and toilet roll (as does disabled shower area, which also has electric hand dryer). Caravan/camping field has it's own single toilet block, with handbasin, again with toilet roll, liquid soap and towel provided. Chemical disposal point adjacent. All areas are kept lovely and clean. Site is really lovely and very peaceful. Now, the negative points. There are only two forms of access to this site. One is chosen by sat nav system and is totally NOT suitable for caravan towing (unfortunely, not knowing area, this is the route which we took!) it is a VERY narrow single track country line, which is very overgrown on both sides. In addition to this, the road is VERY steep and winding in places. The other option is approached from Llanelli town and again is not terribly caravan friendly, as it is also single track and again VERY steep in places - but I guess is preferred route as it is more direct. When actually entering Caemawr site itself, at time of visit the access lane is not at all caravan friendly, and almost claimed our exhaust system! It is again quite steep and VERY uneven. The owners assure us that this was to be addressed, in the form of resurfacing. When this was to be undertaken, was not specified. All in all, we would certainly visit this site again - but perhaps NOT with our current vehicle (Ford Focus Estate) as it REALLY struggled with access roads in BOTH directions. If you are lucky enough to have a powerful 4x4 vehicle AND providing your caravan is not too large (ours is only small 2 berth, and trust me when I say that the 'sat nav' access option in one place in particular almost made it impossible to navigate) it should'nt be an issue. Once on site, it really is good value for money. But PLEASE take our advise and DO NOT opt for access which is stated by Sat Van system!
We stayed at the camp site for seven days. It was wonderfully quiet, which will one day change as more people find it. The toilet and shower facilities were excellent, and could not be faulted. Some experimentation is needed on driving routes, as you can bypass most of Llanelli, if you take the time to find them. There are a few local pubs within walking distance, if you decided to make an evening of it.
If I had to make any type of criticism, which is quite difficult, I would need to moan about the lead in road and internal driving paths. They could do with filling in with more hardcore, or tarmac. It can be a bit of a bumpy ride! Other than that, you won't be disappointed with your stay.
