We made an overnight stop at this site last week on our way back to Calais, as we have used it previously. The setting of the site itself is pleasant and the Reception staff polite but the washroom facilities need much attention. We noted the following:- out of two blocks only two Gents toilet cubicles were in operation for the whole site, which was quite busy (we reported this to Reception). On the Ladies side both disabled cubicles were locked and the hand dryer out of order. The unisex showers and washing cubicles were reasonable but only one light above the sinks was working in the block we used. The Reception office was fine but its exterior lacked the 'welcome' factor and looked as if it had been boarded up! On arrival we were told that the Restaurant was open but it was displaying a 'Closed due to technical problems' notice. A lady made a phone call and then assured us it would be open and the notice was duly removed by her. Obviously no-one had kept them informed either way. We ate there and had a choice of 2 meals or alternatively a Take Away. It seems such a shame that this site is being allowed to deteriorate when it has so much potential.
Used the aire here as a stop off point. It was OK, but nothing special. Access to city was fairly good. The city itself is lovely and well worth a visit.
The aire itself is flat, if a little narrow, but it was relatively quiet.
Sadly the staff working at the site were rude to us and our children (despite one of us speaking fluent French!). Perhaps they don't want people using the aire? Given the treatment we received, we shan't be coming back and would certainly not recommend this site to others.
This site is on the edge of Amiens but it has security features of a city centre site. The gates are locked shut overnight.
We received a warm welcome and English is spoken by some of the staff. There are information leaflets in reception and we were invited to choose our pitch.
Each grassy area is 'fronted' by concrete so it would have been possible to move your van onto hardstanding in inclement weather. The pitches were not particularly private and the markers were not too specific so pitching and electric hookup was a bit random.
Only one toilet block was open and this was not as clean as we would have liked.
Despite the number of units on the site, (certainly about three quarters full), there was no bar, tv room, shop or friterie. Disappointing, really.
There are lots of places to walk, though it is a long walk into the city. Catch the bus if you don't have a dog. The drivers don't always let a dog on, so we had to content ourselves with riverside walks - you can walk for miles!
The site is only a short distance drive from Albert, Thiepval and all the Somme battlefields. As always, near a city, there are supermarkets and industrial estates close by.
Visited this site in July, booked through the caravan club, was not informed about the early closure of the barrier(2030)and lockdown of main gate(2200)nor the 20euro to purchase a TAG for late entry, on there website the waters around the site looked great, so took rods 1st pond covered in algie unfishable, 2nd pond is where they dumped grass cuttings had a film of grass over it unfishable, reception. There English was like my French passable, toilets clean but only two cubicles, showers 10 had to rinse down before use, ideal for 1 night either coming to/from Europe, first decent shop was a good 10min drive. Will not be using this site again BUT will be returning to FRANCE
We stayed on the campsite to attend the flea market in Amiens. Reception staff more than helpful in helping us to find free car parking close to the market area. As it was low season only one toilet and shower block open not a problem as site half full. Fishing available free of charge on site, lots of walks for our 2 dogs. Enjoyed our stay and would book again. A visit into the town, I would recommend as the Cathedral is magnificent, had a coffee and local speciality maccaron sitting in the square. One issue might be the length of power cable needed, if not able to park close to the hook up point. 20 meters plus in some cases.
The pitch is just off the A16 on the edge of Amiens.
Staff at reception speak good English and there are lots of tourist leaflets on offer. If you ask about the bus, they give you a small map and point you in the right direction for the bus that runs on Sundays. We visited out of season so the bar and the shop were closed, but you can still order bread for the next morning and the tv room is available. They also sell postcards and stamps and you can leave your post there for next day collection.
The grass pitches are 'field' rather than 'golf course' quality and the pitches aren't huge, but hedging makes sure that you aren't overlooked by too many other campers. The toilet blocks are clean and adequate with 8 showers and 8 sink cubicles. There are 3 toilets per gender and, in the ladies, a fourth larger cubicle for disabled access. There is some traffic noise during the day.
There's an Intermarche supermarket within walking distance and a very large Carrefour a short drive away - you can buy petrol there as well.
Albert, Thiepval, Peronne etc are nearby and part of the WW1 remembrance trail.
The bus runs to Amiens from outside the site during the week and, on Sundays, a short walk away. It costs 1.20 each way. The walk along the canal towpath is a pleasant stroll and, in the opposite direction, goes as far as Peronne.
Amiens has plenty to offer by way of parks and canals and, of course, the 13th century cathedral which is a world heritage site. Throughout the summer until mid September (and again, over Christmas) there's a 'light' show which is absolutely stunning.
On our last day, we visited Samara which, for 7.50 each (9.00 high season) was very good value for money and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Well all I can describe is 'Mozzy Central'. Never have we been bitten so often, it was nasty. The ground is soft which is unusual for the time of year. On a greater inspection it is right next to a marsh.
We parked near the middle toilet block, which is filthy. While having our morning cuppa we timed the cleaner. From arriving, pulling her trolly out of the store and returning it and leaving was 14 (fourteen minutes). From the trolly she used one cloth twice.
Truly a miserable place for a very basic stay.
It is approx. 1 hour walk into Amiens. Bus once an hour.
Used this site as an overnight stop on the way home as it is only 100 miles from Calais. Speaking to other caravanners this seems to be the norm. The site is quite basic with a small take away and bar where you can get reasonable meals for a reasonable price. Pitches are not allocated but there were plenty of free areas when we visited. Sanitary blocks are modern but basic. They are kept reasonably clean but are not lit at night.
Overall a reasonable site for a stopover but we would not use it as a holiday base.
We were greeted by a young man who spoke excellent English and given a choice of pitches. It was explained that only one block was open out of season. Nice big pitches marked out by hedges. We needed a good long lead to hook up. The pitching area had a slightly 'rustic' look with grass that was an inch or two long and wild flowers - we liked that, but I know at least one other camper thought it was 'scruffy. '
The sanitaires were certainly good enough for an overnight, and they do a snack with simple meals (even on a Sunday. )
Good access to the site and to the pitches.
