We visited this site with our two sons aged 8 and 10 between 23rd August and 1 September 2011 and stayed in one of the sites mobile homes. We can think of only positive things to say about this site:
Access. We drove from Lyon and it was an approx 2 hour drive. Grenoble would have been closer at approx 1 hr away.
Location: Stunning- probably the best we have ever stayed in. If you want Mountain views, and fresh air this is the site for you. If you want entertainment then stay away- the site have well enforced silence rules between 10pm and 7 am which suited us perfectly. 2 table tennis tables, a bar football game and boules to borrow with a deposit were all we needed. Internet access is available for those that want or need it- but we found that our addiction to modern tech. Was cured pretty quickly in such spectacular surroundings. The Veneon river runs through the site, it is down a steep rocky bank and so not easy for young children to access, however if I had youngsters we would be wary; as it was, we only allowed our two boys down to the river bank when accompanied by one of us. It was a nice way to spend half an hour or so, with a cup of coffee of glass of chilled wine, watching the boys build a damn or skim stones. Caution is the word however.
During the summer months the village swimming pool and slide is located next door to the site and is a lovely place to spend a couple of hours particularly after a full days mountain activities. At 3Euro pp entry it is not cheap but the price drops after 5. 30pm. The Tennis courts are also adjacent however we didn't have time to use them.
The site owners Christian and his wife were always helpful and provided freshly baked bread and croissants to pre order daily which was just as well, as the local boulangerie is up in Venosc (a 20 minute brisk climb up the mountain)and is also available only for pre-ordering. The campsite shop stocks a few basics, but the nearest goodsize supermarket is the Casino in Bourg D'Oisans approx a 10-15 minute drive away.
Alternatively for other provisions the telecabin to Les2Alpes is a 5-10 min uphill walk from the site and can whisk you up to the resort in 8 mins, where a Spa supermarket is only a couple of mins away. BE warned however the season for Les2Alpes closes earlier than other resorts in Switzerland etc. On 28th August this year everything, and I mean everything shut down. The lifts, the telebcabin, swimming pool, tennis courts etc all closed. From this point on if you want to explore the mountains, you have to climb uphill first! That said the site is a dream and we can't recommend it more highly, and we will definitely be back.
This is the most beautiful location you are likely to find any where in the world. Imagine a tight valley so you are surrounded by mountains. In sight s a waterfall, snow capped peaks and mountain tops in cloud. Paradise and undiscovered by brits. Swimming in municipal pool is fantastic as you float around surrounded by the snowcapped peaks. Go ape type affair adjacent, lac Lauvital a good walk, good restaurant on site. Pitches reasonable size but varied rafting, canyoning and sunny how do you beat this!.
Spent a week on the site in July 2010. Would definitely go back again.
Facilities were excellent. High Amps supply, and numerous water points throughout the site. A very clean site and friendly staff. Free Wifi during our stay as well.
Only downside were the size of some of the pitches. We managed to get one of the smaller ones and thankfully friendly neighbours helped get the van into position.
A glacier river runs alongside the camp and while a lot of people paddled there and it was no doubt a beautiful spot, not sure if it could be a dangerous temptation to the very young children if they wondered off.
The views all around from the site were in a word amazing. Just has to be seen to be believed worth the drive in itself - I mean that.
Took the lift to Deux Alpes most days and enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, etc.
Plenty to do even if the car never moves from the site. However if you want a short drive Alpe Deuz and its famous climb is about 15 minutes away, as are numerous other resorts.
Would really like to return to the Alpes, and if I do would like to stay here again.
A beautiful location at the foot two mountain ranges. On the doorstep of The Ecrin national park and a half-mile walk from the lovely (artisan's) village of Venosc. Site is a 250yd walk from the ski lift up to Les Deux Alpes resort.
Sane, but cosy pitches and some good mature trees for shade. All the facilities in one chalet style building, Loo / shower block in the basement with seemingly limitless hotwater.
The pitches all offer 6/10A electricity and lots of water stand-pipes. A good number of modern cabins to rent too.
Owners seemed relaxed, helpful and not too focused on check-in/out times and didn't charge us for the dog. Better still, they bake & sell their own bread on site.
If you have little kids, the swimming pool (see the tourist office photos) is outside the campsite, run by the commune and only open in the summer school holidays. Please be aware a very-fast-flowing river runs along the boundary and brings ice-cold glacial melt water from the peaks,.It was pretty chilly overnight. Still it was mid 30's during the day so maybe a blessing?
Final benefit, for a mountain site, the access road (from Bourg d'Oisans) is fairly level and not too bendy.
I'm only marking the site down as (little) kid safety was a worry - we didn't let our 5-year old out of sight!
