This was the most basic camp I have ever stayed on but it had a strange little charm! There are no showers and no hot water. There are no water points either – you fill your bottles up from the sink. We stayed in April and it was extremely cold at night. The camp fire was a blessing. The owner was very easy going, friendly and helpful, selling the essentials like loo rolls, logs, etc. The electic points are attached to the toilet block, so bear that in mind if thinking about a hook up! This site was great for the wild camping experience, although not very flat and it got very boggy during wet weather. The views were lovely.

Very basic but that is exactly what my five year old son and I wanted. Very friendly owner who provided wood for a camp fire for only a fiver. Situated a few minutes drive out of Cheddar. High up so it got very cold very quickly in April but that's all part of proper camping and the scrumpy I picked up in the day kept me warm. If you are in to cider there are plenty of proper cider farms within 30 minutes drive. Thatcher's is only 15 minutes away and Rich's is 20 mins. Wilkin's cider farm is about 15 mins away on the Wedmore Road and well worth trying to find. Mr. Wilkin is a legend on the cider circuit!

A proper father and son camping trip. Don't think the wife would like this site tho!

We used this site as a one night stop over on our way down to Devon. It is a basic site with a simple toilet block (no loo roll) and cold water outdoor wash up sink, all nice and clean. Very basic, but served our purpose. Lots if youngsters use the site for DofE awards etc but caused no problems for us. Lovely owner, explained where to pitch in the event we arrived late and ensured the electric meter was topped up. It's a card meter and we used a meagre 20p for our 1 night stay. The location is beautiful, although the access is a bit hilly and we found the turning was easy to miss and quite tight for the novice caravanners we are. Overall, if your looking for a simple, away from it all place, or a stop over, I would recommend it.

Just back from a spontaneous overnight camping trip to Cheddar Camp. Just what we were looking for!

Basic facilities but all that we needed (loos & water - thanks to previous reviews for loo roll tip!) Lovely & peaceful, lots of space, and lovely walks in the forest next to the site. Cheddar and the Gorge only 3 miles away - but very busy so we opted to stay around the site.

Cooking on a campfire was a real treat (wood provided at a reasonable £3. 50 for more than enough for the night). We would definitely recommend Cheddar Camp if back to basics camping is what you are looking for. Back home now with tired dogs & children & planning our next trip!

Very good site for stop overs. Or if you have a solar shower, a loo tent and hot weather, then this site is perfect for a three night stay. Mind you I chose the hottest week in July to visit

Relaxing by a camp fire in he evenings, after a hard day of BBQ'a, a day in Cheddar and a day on the beach at Weston Supermare. Was just the ticket.

There is plenty of dead wood on the site for fires, and Wood is available from Joan, for a small fee.

Joan the owner, is a very spritely lady in her 80's, She keeps an eye on things along with her family. They are all very friendly

The facilities are sparse - a tap, two toilets each for ladies and gents. No Hot water. Two deep sinks and waste disposal.

The site sits on the great Mendip way, so there are plenty of walks, helped by being given a free detailed map of the area.

The site is mainly on a slope but there are suitable pitches for tents.

Recommend this site and will visit again. £15 for three nights great value.

We visited Cheddar Camp over the Jubilee weekend. The journey took a lot longer than planned due to a Sat Nav issue. If using a Sat Nav make sure the route doesn't take you through the centre of Bristol as that added an extra two hours onto our journey!

With the sat nav we found the site very easily and went to find Brenda - the site owner in the farm house. She showed us where to pitch as we had asked for an electric hook up. The electric was a pay as you go style meter but we only used about 60p's worth of electric for our three day stay.

The toilets and cold water tap were as described in the listing but that was fine for us as we didn't need to have shower. Toilets were clean but no loo roll is provided so be sure to bring your own!

The views from the top field were stunning. A really nice site when having your early morning cup of tea! No noise from traffic and the occasional moo from the resident Cows in the field across the valley.

This campsite does allow you to have open fires which was the main reason for us choosing this particular camp site. You can collect your wood from Brenda at the farm house before 7. 00pm every night. £3. 50 for a bag is very reasonable. Due to the typical British weather we didn't end up having a fire which disappointed the children but you can't do anything about the weather can you!

The site itself was very tidy and well maintained. When pitching be careful of the scars on the ground from previous camp fires. We managed to pitch right on the edge of one and ended up with a small lake under the front of our tent!

Cheddar camp is about a ten minute drive from Cheddar Gorge which is a great day out and about 15 minute drive from Weston Super Mare with all it's sea-side charm. A lovely sandy beach, Amusements, Pier and of course Donkeys so watch your step on the beach! We also visited Brean beach which was lovely even in the rain but managed to miss the large amusement park somehow!

All in all I can say that we really like this camp site and we will be definitely be returning later this year. This site is great if you an cope without a shower for a few days and want to enjoy the scenery of the Mendip Hills and camp fires. If you are the type of campers that need entertainment, playgrounds, swimming pools, showers and toilet roll this is not the site for you!

Thank you Brenda for a lovely stay - we can't wait to come back!

We stayed here as we were visiting the nearby thatchers brewery.

Would be a hard site to find without a sat nav but found it easily enough with.

Great little site out in the countryside, basic but more than adequate toilet block, plenty of choice where to pitch your tent.

Bags of wood available for the campfire which was a bonus, only £5 per person to camp, all round very good and great price.

Not really within walking distance to anywhere which is a small negative but local places reachable by car.

Our first camping with the grandchildren (aged 3&5) and we wanted a basic site and this was just lovely. Ideal location and such a treat to have an open fire to toast the marshmallows.

Toilets just about OK but they had a lot to cope with as a group of school children were there on the Sat night doing their 10 Tors training. Basic site, great location and fab fires.

By far the best thing about this site is that they allow, and even encourage open camp fires. There is a free pile of wood, and most people make good use of it.

Great site if you like it really basic. 1 small basic toilet block, with a sink indoors and outdoors, no hot water, no showers, no frills.

Very relaxed site, no marked pitches, just a rough wave of a finger from the site owner as to where might be a good spot to pitch up.

Surrounded by woodland and huge hills in every direction, a bridleway runs through the site with public access, but only saw 2 or 3 horses pass through all day on a sunny Saturday in August.

The site allows group bookings, and whilst we were there a large group of climbers arrived and set up, and sang songs round their campfire with a guitar until 10.30pm (but they were actually quite talented so didn't really mind! And they stopped and went to bed at a reasonable hour.)

All the campers had tents rather than caravans, but no idea if it would be any good for a caravan as I have never stayed in one before. As far as I could tell there were no hookups available. There were 2 big trailers with permanent residents at the top of the site, both were very friendly and quiet.

We took our 2 kids aged 1 and 3 who absolutely loved it. Quite a few families with kids there too.

Situated a few miles from the strawberry line - great cycle path, and well worth a visit. Not too far from Cheddar. About a mile down the road was a cafe and farm shop. A mile or so further is the small village of Shippham with a pub or 2.

Overall, its a great site for what it is: Basic, and very relaxed. Loved it. Bring some matches, light a fire, and relax. Oh and bring your own loo roll!

We had a fantastic time. The owner was very friendly and there were a few resident country music follower caravanners at the time who were also very welcoming and will let you know of any gigs going on!

The campsite consists of a large field with a camp fire area, and a smaller field which also had a camp fire area. We asked the owner whether we could have our own fire and she was happy about this (even though we didn't make one in the end as we were too busy messing around with our own woodburning stove that we had for our new bell tent!)

There were 2 female toilets (and 2 males I think too, but it was a few months ago we went so not 100% sure, and I didn't actually go in them myself!) These were very basic and you need your own toilet roll etc, but we like to go camping for the experience, not for posh toilets and luxury! There are no showers or hot water, but the site make this clear when you book, so it was not a problem for us.

The campsite location is very picturesque with countryside and the Mendip Hills surrounding it, it certainly is very pretty. There is a footpath that goes through the centre of the site, which has the odd walker or horse going along it - but no major roads and cars in the vicinity so it's a pretty peaceful location.

I would recommend this campsite for those who don't need the hot water or showers, and like to go camping for the experience, and to stay in a peaceful, pretty setting. (it is very cheap too, only £5pppn at time of writing)

We will definitely return to Cheddar Camp!
