We stayed 2 nights. As it was mid week, we almost had the whole site to ourselves. Basic amenities, but more than adequate, there is a toilet suitable for disabled. Drovers Arms pub is just over a mile away, a nice walk, over fields and then follow the road. Drovers Arms serves food, as does the Wetherspoons pub (The Castle) in Ruthin centre for good value food. Tranquil site with lovely views.
We came to Minffordd when the weather warmed up in late April for our first camping trip of the year, with our kids and some friends.
It is a small, basic site, in a beautiful location. As it was early in the season, we had the field to ourselves when we first arrived on a Saturday lunchtime, so the kids were able to run around and play without disturbing anyone.
Later on a group of teenagers who were on a DoE hike arrived, with some adults, and a couple of other guys who came on bikes with the minimum of gear. There was plenty of space, so everyone had a corner of the field to themselves.
We only stayed one night so didn't try out the shower, but it looked nice and clean, and the toilets were too.
There is a public right of way from the camping field into a farmers field next to it, and a nice walk down to the river and back around via an old mill building.
Overall we were very happy with the site, and the price we paid, and would recommend it highly.
The views from the camping field are very good on all sides. The site is situated on a quiet country lane. Not a lot on noise at any time on the site. Noise.
The facilities are adequate and quaint, the owners are very helpful and friendly.
We used the there are electric hookups, but could do with more however in the week we were there we ware the only ones with electric.
It's close to Ruthin and the is a short walk to ruthin great for the dog.
Firstly, this is a really secluded site, very quiet. Yet just a 2 mile walk into Ruthin town. There is also a nice little pub (The Drovers) about a mile away.
Secondly, there is almost a micro-climate thing going on in the Vale Of Clwyd, which meant all the weather just blew over our heads. The owner told us that, in winter, even if there is 6' of snow on The Clwydian Range, the site is snow free! Coupled with the tall hedges, there is excellent shelter on site.
Thirdly, friendly owners, exceptionally good fees, top notch views, and due to the lack of a river no kidgies.
In conclusion, a lovely little site, basic but clean, nice atmosphere (shower is 50p in the honesty pot). In an excellent spot for exploring the (underrated) Clwydian Range.
This is a charming little site yet has quite basic amenities. The site owners were helpful, friendly and laid back. The Griffin pub just up the road served good, affordable food in a chilled out environment and served meals up to 9pm. Ruthin town is only 2-3 miles away with a tesco, morrisons, B&M and a co-op to cater for all your needs while away.
The views around the site were stunning even though it turned out to be a damp bank holiday Monday but didn't spoil our time there.
We will be returning to this lovely site in the very near future,a good find!
We went to this camp as our first time camping, and we are so glad we picked there. We had a great time as there is such beautiful views. There are toilet facilities that are clean and a shower.
There is a spar shop on the road in and a pub on a hill as you make your way climbing upwards to the camp on the road. The owners are very nice and very helpful. I thought I had lost my cigerettes after having a drink and the owners offered to drive me to the shops which I thought was a very nice offer.
They gave us take away menus so we could order food to be delivered to the camp which also was nice. We plan to go back soon and stay a bit longer this time.
The views from the camping field are stunning - of Moel Fammau and the ranges of Clwyd hills on both sides of the valley. The site is situated on a quiet lane, so there's very little road noise.
The facilities are adequate and quaint, the owners are very helpful and friendly. The site is pretty level and there are electric hookups if required. There are footpaths to follow so walking the dog was no problem.
It's close to Ruthin and all the attractions of the Vale of Clwyd - a wonderful base for anyone walking the Offa's Dyke path. Please note: they don't take caravans and larger motorhomes may have difficulty approaching down the lane.
When we were pulling out of the lane back onto the main road which leads down to Ruthin, we noticed a pub opposite which had good offers on food (weekdays only) for senior citizens - another plus!
We would highly recommend this site - although we were tempted to keep it a closely guarded secret! We will definitely go again.
