We stayed for a Saturday night as a group of five lads on a stag do. We enjoyed the relaxed flexibility, being able to pitch up wherever we wanted with no regimented pitches, and having our gazebo in the middle of our camp with no extra cost, and a lovely roaring campfire we cooked on.
The ground was flat enough and easy to pitch on.
The site has no EHUs and only a single water tap as far as I saw, and basic toilet & shower facilities so if you are looking for a campsite with all the mod cons, this one probably isn't for you, but if you want down to earth, relaxed 'proper camping' with a campfire, definitely give it a try. In the dark, the sight of campfires dotted around the field looked great.
The owner Bernie was very friendly and welcoming, and joined us for a chat a couple of times, and provided a barrow-load of good seasoned firewood for £20 (smaller buckets were £5) and provided a big brazier (made from a tractor wheel) and grill.
Bernie explained that he is going to limit the field to 40 people at a time maximum, and as it's a good sized field, that means there will always be plenty of space, you'll always find somewhere to set up your camp the way you want to.
Cars are not allowed on the camping field itself, but an adjacent parking area is provided. We pitched in the bottom corner (immediately to the left as you enter the field) which was a convenient location, but there was some noise from the nearby road, so if you want it more peaceful, you may want to go further up-field.
This is a new site, hence the lack of other reviews, but if you want basic down to earth camping, I'd certainly recommend trying it out.
A real gem of a site for anyone wanting not a lot. Peace, greenery, the natural world for entertainment. Wood fires on Bernie's fabulous tractor wheel alter fires.
We camped pre showers but the pit toilets were the best thought out I've yet come across. Our main problem with them was the children being so fascinated that they wanted to look as far in as possible.
We had the site pretty much to ourself (just a couple of teams of very well behaved DoE-ers), so it was a lovely, peaceful experience. Hopefully this is the norm as this is definitely a repeat visit site for us. Lots of space for the kids to run around. They flew a kite, and made beds out of the cut grass that was still on the field. Parents could watch whilst cooking on the fire, or join in too. Heaven.
We tacked our single night onto the end of a pre-existing trip, so didn't really explore the area. We used the extra night to take in Bewilderwood (highly recommended 'theme' park in the woods near Wroxham - building dens, zip wires and adventure playground type activities rather than plastic fantastic high energy rides. But themed around a book series).
A lovely camp site set in the Norfolk countryside. We where lucky to find this camp site while it was under a trial period.
The site is quite sloppy with areas of flat ground, No camping pitches or limit of tents or camping area, well drained, But the real winner are the camp fires.
A good supply of fire wood and very easy to light.
I would recommend this site to campers, but not so much to people who just like camping.
We liked this site so much we went back the next weekend.
Look forward to visiting again soon.
