Holidayed with 3 other families and able to pitch together no problem. Booking was easy and staff extremely helpful and friendly.

All the grass pitches are generously sized and despite the large amount of rain prior to our arrival the site was not overly muddy.

The main play parks are great and our children ages 5 and 7 loved them, as did the Dad's. The Pirate Ship was excellent for those with a wetsuit.

The zorbing was £5.00 each and given the professionalism of the staff was well run and you had plenty of time in them so worth the money I believe.

Few criticisms:

1. More play equipment near the washing up facilities.

2. Shower curtains needed to stop clothes getting soaked on seat provided. Replace push button with taps.

3. Takeaway expensive - same cost as eating in Restaurant so drove to Ashburton for fish & chips.

Dog owners will love this site as plenty of space for them to exercise and play ball with.

Bottom line yes I would definitely recommend.

We have just returned from 3 nights at River Dart over the bank holiday weekend. Despite being told they were full when we rang a few days before arrival to ask if any hardstandings had become available the site wasn't full the whole weekend.

We booked with my Camping Cheques gold card, no deposit needed. Camping Cheques are accepted for most of the season except Whitsun Week and the summer holidays.

We thought £13.95 for 2 adults, the pitch and EHU was excellent value. Our daughter was an extra £7 a night.

The site is easy to find being sign posted off the A38. The access road is fairly busy and narrow in places so caution is needed for those of us towing.

On arrival the reception staff were friendly and showed us on a map where we to go (pitch 66). A warden showed us to the pitch, I got the impression he was new as he didn't know where the pitches were and when I asked him the next day if there was any TV reception he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know.

Pitch 66 is a hardstanding pitch but we think much more suited to motorhomes as the layout made access difficult if the adjacent pitches were in use.

Throughout our stay we were surrounded by motorhomes and unbelievably tents were allocated hardstanding pitches with the tent on the grassy area and the car parked on the hardstanding. I havn't been to a site where some of the units were so tightly packed in as River Dart. Guylines were crossing and tents pitched approx 2-3 metres from each other. The perimeter pitches on the whole looked a lot more spacious.

I read the reviews on here before we went and the majority are from tent campers. The site appears to be much more popular with tents than caravans as it was during our stay.

Lots of people were in groups however the site was quiet after 11pm. Most of the pitches are sloping so chocks are needed. We also couldn't get any TV reception at all, the weather on the whole was wet and miserable so TV would have been nice at times.

The wash facilities were very good, not immaculate but the mud and grass prevented this! The shower cubicles were plentiful and a really good size with shelving for your shampoo etc, two hanging hooks and a folding seat. They are the push button type like on a lot of french sites. This doesn't bother me, it saves water and that can only be a good thing.

The showers were always nice and hot. I never had to queue in fact I found the facilities very quiet. My husband did the dishes and reported lukewarm washing up water only.

The grounds are really lovely and the wooded areas were full of bluebells. Our daughter loved the adventure playground and assault course. The play areas had all had fresh bark put down and the equipment was well maintained.

There are a couple of play areas around the camping areas which were also of a good standard and a table tennis table next to the one nearest to us. Our daughter did the high ropes course which has gone up to £14. You pay for this at the CRS hut near reception who give you tokens you then take to your chosen activity. Its first come first served and weekends only out of high season. The course is for those over 8 but we saw younger children attempting to do it and it caused delays as they struggled and had to be brought down. I would recommend wearing gloves to do the course as our daughter has a few blisters today.

The other activities looked great (water zorbs, canoeing etc) but the weather wasn't good enough. We didn't use the cafe or shop but they looked nice when we explored the site.

To sum up, lovely site in lovely surroundings. Pitching can be difficult for caravan/ motorhomes so remember your chocks. With a bit more thought about the pitch layout (avoiding the cramming in that we saw in certain areas) and this site could be brilliant.

What a delight especially if you have children with you, saw ours at meal times and that was it! Lots of free stuff for them to do as well as some to pay for which I felt were a bit pricey.

So much space for playing, walking and biking. Site is about 1/2 mile off the road so very safe. Ideally placed for Dartmoor too. Reception staff were a delight and the little shop provides the basics.

Campsite is placed over 4 areas some hardstandings but mainly grass. All areas are open with out hedges but pitches well marked out. Facilities clean and warm however floors became muddy/grassy with use and no facilities to clean shower floors(ie bucket and mop). Wash up area is outside under a shelter and water not as hot as it could have been for washing up.

Restaurant on site serving good value meals and a great carvery on Sunday. Exceptional value for money too, as they accepted Camping Cheques over Easter !

We have just got back from a great 4 nights at River Dart Country Park.

In a word great

We stayed on the Village Green area, massive pitch, plenty of room for our Vango Maritsa 700, we found the staff at reception/shop/ and restaurant/bar to be excellent, all were very pleasant and a credit to the site.

The nearest toilet block was as you approach the Riverside area and was spotlessly clean at all times, even on Sunday morning when it was very busy with lots of families leaving to go home.

Our son loved the Pirate Ship and lake area where he spent most of his time in the water, kids don't notice the cold when having fun!

Pitch price was also very good, given the time of the year.

Would recommend highly and we will ensure to return, hopefully with more friends as we will be recommending to all our friends

We first booked this site in April after searching for sites in Dartmouth area, but were disappointed in our search so widened it to Dartmoor. I am so glad that we did.

This is an 'Adventure Park' in every sense.

On the main road winding upto the entrance this is a narrow stretch of road (1 mile or so - from Southbound A38 exit) therefore requires both vehicles to stop allowing passage, not sure how this would fair with a caravan!

Upon entrance to the park we were greeted by a 'gatekeeper' who kept the day-trippers at bay and allowed us passage to the site. As we proceeded: to the left was the Picnic Meadow for non-electric pitches and to the right was the 'Tree Tops-£12-Activities and Zorbs-£5 etc.

(All prices advertised)

Continuing our journey through the beautiful wooded road and past manor house, to our left was the Old Sawmill Restaurant (we never used it - but it looked busy) and the site shop. A little further round to the right was the reception and the adventure kiosk.

The lady was very helpful, explaining where are pitch was and issuing gate codes and cards. The cards have a £5 refundable deposit and allow entrance through the first gate upon arrival!

As we entered my first impressions were that 90% of the pitches varied from a slight incline to a manageable incline including some of the hardstanding pitches. Only 10% were what I called flat.

Some pitches are backed onto the wooded area with the majority in the middle back to back with a 3m path in between them.

The pitches are very large and fitted our tent and electric lovely.

We were pitched in the 'Riverside' Area.

We wanted to erect our gazebo. And it was larger than I remembered, so went off the end of our pitch by a metre or so. But vehicles were still able to get past! Before we pegged the gazebo down, we asked one of the wardens if it was OK. He replied that it would be fine, especially as he could still get his tractor through the gap. He also did say that it was nice someone had asked, rather than putting it there (Bless!) So we were happy.

The amenities were excellent. For a site so big. The toilets were very clean and cleaned twice daily, first thing in the morning and in the afternoon as with the showers. They were always warm. There were 6 washing-up sinks. I didn't have to queue once but could see a potential problem. They also had washer and dryer facilities to the rear of the blocks. I'm quite a 'toilet critic' and these were lovely!

I didn't see any muddy puddled floors and we were there in the rainiest week of August!

For the Park itself. Well well what a total surprise.

Deep within the woods are free and pay-for activities, playgrounds, pirateships. Make sure your kids take their wetsuits (if not, the shop and icecream cabin, near to the ship, sells them)

Make you sure you take yours too. The Pirate ship is in the middle of 70cm pond/lake (has a gang-plank to walk across) be prepared to get wet so take your water pistols and dinghys. (the shop sells them to!) This shop could have done with selling hot food rather than chocolate, crisps, coffee and ice creams. So don't forget your picnic.

The adventure park is full of huge slides and zip wires and you can easily spend all day there.

The only gripes I had was concerning the shops. The cabin need to sell hot food - we had cold wet days and after coming out of the water.

The main shop upon the site. Was very lacksicle of prices. They seemed to have a generic pricelist, but didn't seem to list other things that were on the shelf. Its quite soul destroying when you have to keep asking!

I will definitely come back again.

It is worth paying the camp fees as your whole holiday can be in one place. What great fun! Well-Done River Dart

We've just spent a week at this site.

Family rating: GREAT.

We were in the overflow pitching meadow. Large, flat, grassy pitches. Quiet and relaxed during the night.

All woodland activities were top quality and great fun. Minimal queuing even though the site was busy.

Toilet block was a bit of a let down. It was cleaned once a day which was inadequate due to grass and showers blocking by the evening.

However, it really was such a lovely site, these things could be tolerated and over looked.

The staff in the on site bar were really good and friendly, food was good standard and value for money.

Local village was within easy driving distance and very pretty.

Generally, excellent and would definitely visit again.

We visited this site as part of a small group (6 adults and 4 young children). We were allocated pitches in the Walled Garden which we have to say is so quiet! The pitches are well marked out and of a good size so you don't feel on top of each other. The only downside is that it doesn't have it's own amenity block and you have to walk across to the meadows to use theirs.

Plenty of showers (always had hot water), lots to keep the children entertained. Also enjoyed a meal at the on-site restaurant which was very good value for money.

We spent 3 nights there and didn't feel the need to to head off site in all of that time! We would definitely return again!

We have had a great time here. Stayed for a short break of Thursday to Sunday at the end of half term. Even though the site was obviously busy we did not feel at all crowded.

We went with friends and kids of 14, 9, 8 and 6 had no problems keeping busy with all the activities. Favourite is the Pirate Ship pool.

Site shop is Ok but ran out of stock quickly due to the good weather and number of people, so we had to go out for essential supplies (hic).

Toilet/showers were always available and clean - good numbers of cubicles so never had to queue. Washing up facilities also far better then we've used before. Site staff friendly and helpful.

This is a site that we will probably return to. The worst I can say about the site is the narrow road from the A38.

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the River dart and have to say that on the whole, it was a great experience.

On arrival, the pitches we were given were unsuitable as we were with friends and would have ended up back to back and too close to other campers. Without any problems, we were relocated to the emergency pitches, which, I have to say, are probably the best pitches on the site.

The facilities are first class and regularly cleaned., the biggest issue is that the toilets have push and hold buttons to flush. Not many people understood this and therefore it could be difficult to find a 'usable' toilet at times. Showers were hot and free, plenty of sinks and lots of covered washing up space. Chemical disposal was efficient with flushing and a hose to rinse your unit.

The bar / cafe was okay. The food is plentiful with large portions and therefore great value for money. The service at busy times was poor and slow.

As for the activities - these are second to none. There is no excuse for being bored. There is so much to do for nothing and that includes the adults. We barely saw the boys during the day.

The paid for activities are worth looking at. We opted for the high ropes (£12 each) and they are challenging and fun. The boys did the water zorbs (£5)and had a great time. We didn't bother with the canoes as for the cost and size of the lake it didn't represent value for money. The climbing wall looks okay but has no real height to it.

There is plenty to do out and about and there is a Coop and a Spar 5 minutes down the road in Ashburton. You are only 30 minutes from Teigmouth beach which is well worth a visit on a sunny day.

It's worth getting a gate key for arriving back in the evening otherwise you could be sat at the gate for a while! (£5 returnable deposit)

Generally the staff are friendly and helpful and the site is well kept and bins emptied frequently. There's lots of wildlife about and in general, for a busy site, the late night noise is acceptable.

We will be returning next year for sure.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this site and I have to say I'm left with mixed feelings whether to recommend it or not. The facilities on offer around the park are plentiful and some can turn out to be expensive but that is personal view.

We chose the meadows when booking and was disappointed in our pitch as we were a trailer tent it wasn't the flattest of pitches and had very little grass, more dust, and when it rained it became very muddy.

The toilet blokes weren't the cleanest and I found that may need in the height of season cleaning more than once a day as they were when we were there, by early evening and first thing in the morning they weren't the best. Plus I think they could benefit from another toilet block which would be open at peak periods.

If you go as a group of friends with children then your children will love the place and they will amuse themselves all day long. The pay for activities are great for teenagers but could end up expensive if your child prefers them over the free activities.

The shop has the basic needs and food in the cafe looked nice but we never ate there.

I'm not sure if we would return again. Maybe they could set up an arm band scheme for campers so that the children could have unlimited access to the pay for activities, this being a 1 off payment on booking for the nights that you stay,as £7.75 per night for child is expensive.

This site is absolutely stunning, immaculately maintained and in a beautiful location.

We booked in for the Royal Wedding weekend as our first camping trip of the year with 3 other families and although the site was almost full it was a peaceful and relaxing place to be! The pitches are huge so you are not in anyone elses pocket, there is loads for the children to do and the facilities were spotlessly clean and well maintained. We did not have to queue for showers or the free family bathroom once no matter what time we ventured along! The washing up area is thoughtfully positioned next to a small playground so you could keep watch on the children and the bar/ restaurant was reasonably priced and family friendly.

Upon leaving we were approached by the site warden to check everything had been ok for us and we found all staff to be hugely polite and helpful. The site is relaxed and you are largely left to your own devices. My only worry is that starting with this fantastic site I am not sure how others we have booked will compare! We will definitely be returning next year!

Fantastic campsite! Facilities clean and no queues. Large pitches nicely spread out with plenty of open space for children to play near to tent. Park facilities superb - adventure playground, pirate ship in river, rope swings, slides all included in price and lots of other activities for an additional cost. Restaurant food good value and good selection. Well stocked shop open from 8am - 8pm essential supplies. Plenty of wooded dog walking areas. Site very quiet after 10pm even though full. Downside was quite a long walk to the amenities block from our pitch and no lighting. Also showers were very hot - but there was a problem which was being addressed by the site staff. Lots to do in the area - including many dog friendly activities and beaches even in August. Great place for a family holiday.

We have just returned from a couple of nights stay at this site and I have to say I'm left with mixed feelings whether to recommend it or not. The facilities on offer around the park are plentiful and not too expensive.

We ate twice at the cafe which was really handy, the food was reasonably priced and ok, the cafe looked clean and well-staffed. The welcome at reception was efficient and friendly and the whole park was well-signposted. You can buy most basic provisions from the shop on-site.

There is a games room, indoor climbing wall and some film nights - a great relief for parents trying to survive the nasty weather.

My gripes are all to do with the way the actual camp site was run, especially maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities i.E two of the washing up sinks where blocked with water with stale food floating about the entire time we were there, two taps couldn't be switched off so water was going down the drain 24 hours a day -this is meant to be a 'green site'! The chemical toilet point stank and was dirty, I never had a hot shower or a warm one, some toilets didn't flush properly, don't ever touch one of the loo brushes! There was never any water, clean or otherwise in the mop bucket for the showers, this lead to the shower floors being caked in a muddy slime, my nearest water point was inefficient and poorly maintained. What they call a hard standing is more half grass with other half consisting of a narrow, gravelled 'bit'.

These points really let the park down as in other ways it has so much to offer. The ladies loos and showers looked new but what a shame they didn't actually function properly. I'm sure with more attention to detail, most problems could be sorted out quickly and cheaply.

The camp fees are expensive here but there is a lot of activities on offer. On a positive note, I loved the sheer variety of campers enjoying the site - from little tents to motorhomes, everyone was absolutely lovely - a real friendly, family-loving bunch of very brave, weather-battered campers!

Have just returned from a great holiday at River dart. Despite arriving to find that the Picnic meadow [which I booked] was not open until the school hols [except at the weekends], we were given by the site manager a great pitch at the top of riverside, slightly away from the last official pitch. He called it 77a.

They were so helpful, the site is spotless, showers boiling, freezers for ice packs in the laundry room, covered washing up,so much to do we hardly left the site other than to do a mini tour of Dartmoor.

The more adventurous activities were only available on sunday and were very popular, especially the new High ropes course. There was a long queue but we returned at the end of the day and the queue had shrunk a lot. Save some money if your kids like these activities because you do pay separately but that is made clear on the website.

There was a lovely mix of people from all over europe. We will return, the kids want to go with another family next time so they can have even more fun. Good luck to anyone else going over the summer, we loved it and hope you do too.

As a rule we try and get at least one weekend in fairly local before our two week camp in the summer. Due to space restrictions in the car and a new family member (Pringles the German Shepherd puppy!) We were forced to consider somewhere local so that we could make two trips to get the tribe to the site along with all the gear!.

We chose River Dart as the pictures we had seen on the internet promised somewhere the kids would love and they accept well behaved dogs (Pringles decided to play ball so we may even be allowed back).

The site is a beautiful setting, mature woodland and gently sloping grass areas. The first pitch we were allocated had suffered from the rains of last year and was deeply rutted with sun baked hard mud, obviously a non starter in a tent!

The friendly staff were brilliant and immediately set us up on a site on the “Village Green”. The pitch was simply massive. It swallowed our Kura 800 with ease, we could have set up four more tents on our pitch! There are, as I said, gentle slopes to consider when you pitch but nothing that would cause a serious headache. The only drawback was the distance to the nearest hook up point for the electric, but the Warden Staff were again brilliant and located an extension for me within minutes (£30 deposit refundable in full on departure).

As we were only there for a short weekend break we took most of our food with us, which is a bonus as the shop is half filled with trinkets and cheap toys and has hardly nothing in the way of serious supplies (We were there out of the “High” season so it is possible more and better stock is bought in for the summer). With that said Ashburton is a short five minute drive and there is an abundance of local retailers selling top quality supplies for your Barbie!, they also close at 1700 and did not sell alcohol or tobacco.

The bar and restaurant served well priced and tasty food, but closed early evening for some reason (this again could be due to low season but something to consider querying when you book)

The amenities are acceptable, the site can’t have been ten percent full for our weekend and there was an obvious lack of queuing, I can see how this would be the opposite at peak season, however the Site will benefit from refitted, modernised and extended blocks during this year (work was underway as we departed). Toilets and showers were clean and hot water plentiful.

As far as activities on site…. Take plenty of towels! The lakes provide hours of fun for the kids, especially the main lake with the Pirate Ship, totally surrounded by water and with a narrow plank bridge if the grown ups fancy taking a look around!

The woods also hide a fort and several play area’s. Wetsuits and booties are an absolute must for the kids (and the odd grown up who fancies a dip!) and consider your own dinghy as well, our kids loved storming the pirate ship from their own boat, and the ship has a couple of handy boarding holes at water level for just that very thing.

The additional activities are also good value for money, the high wire course looked like fun, sadly three of us had visited “Go Ape” a few weeks previously so only the boy tried it and his verdict was fun, but not as good. We booked Zorbing but didn’t manage to get around to it as the giant balls were breaking, however the staff from the site gave full, no quibble refunds on any tokens returned.

All in all the setting is wonderful, the activities for the youngsters enough to have them arguing about what to do next, but don’t expect to much for the adults and check your pitch before unloading. We will certainly consider it for a short “Holi-Trip” before our main holiday next year!.
