We loved this place. Close-ish to London, yet feels really rural up high in the Chilterns with red kites soaring above you head.
The shower/WC block referred to in previous reviews is brilliant. Camped at many places and it was spotlessly clean, with proper warm water.
Owner of site, Simon, really friendly when we met him a couple of times, and he also explained what he has been doing to improve the site. Addition of hook ups all around look like recent additions.
The site is flat. Getting pegs in the ground not always easy, but that's a minor quibble. Lovely walks immediately out of the gate. Highly recommend THE Boot in Bledlow Ridge. Lovely (undulating!) walk to there across lovely countryside, and a really good Sunday roast.
Children made friends, but we were far enough away from other campers so didn't feel we were being encroached, and vice versa.
We had a lot of rain prior to my visit and although this is a flat and level site it was a little soft in places.
The amenities are an interesting feature being a portable military toilet and shower facility under a canvas 'tent' and although a couple of the heaters were not working it was quite warm despite being very chilly outside.
The red kites are delightful and can be seen (and heard) for miles around.
The site was not busy when I arrived and I settled myself in but the owner came to see me later to make sure everything was all right and provide useful local knowledge.
This is about our 8th visit to this camp site, very well kept, clean and tidy facilities. Improvements being added all the time, grass was neat and cut and we had a choice of 8 electric hook ups around the field.
We were greeted on arrival by the Owner, who made us welcome again thank you.
We had a couple of nights here on the way home from the New Forest. Our initial reaction was one of dismay as we drove literally into an uncut field with a muddy entrance.
There was just one other unit on site and what looked like a permanent unit in the corner. When we asked these people where reception was the reply was that the owner showed up occasionally, otherwise just to pitch. As there were only four hook-ups the choice was limited.
The 'dome' or 'funny tent' referred to before is actually an ex-Army Field HQ Latrine unit. A novel improvisation. The toilets and wash basins are uni-sex, whilst there are urinals at one end and the showers have been segregated. They were clean enough.
The site was quiet, even though two motorhomes and three tents joined the throng. However it was clear that the site is poorly managed. The grass was 6 inches long, and doesn't grow THAT fast. This made the grpund uneven and manoeuvring difficult. There are no children's facilities. The local village boasted a pub - The Crown - which does serve food, but is quite expensive. The M40 is within 3 miles.
However. Despite the innovative facilities, we have often stayed on other Certificated Sites that offer better for much less. £20 a night is grossly over-priced in my opinion. At the very least the site needs a gravelled access and 'road' around the site to ease access, and (preferably) some gravel hard stands.
A serene oasis nestled in the beautiful countryside at the base of the Chiltern Hills, just a stone`s throw from the charming Henley-on-Thames. Modern facility blocks, on-site cafe, Wi-Fi, laundry, dishwashing, and children`s play areas. Fully serviced pitches for tents, caravans, or motorhomes. Motorhome service point, chemical toilet emptying machine and dog wash! Enhance your stay with a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool or while away your days at the superbly stocked Fishing Lake. We have stayed on this site a few times, Sumer and winter. A lovely little site with great facilities kept immaculately clean, Nice little pub 5 minutes walk away, small village shops and Tesco express 10 minute drive.
We have taken both dogs and grandchildren to this site and found all enjoyed.
Really nice dog walks in lovely countryside, Simon and Lisa could not have been more welcoming and helpful can't wait to return.
We have stayed at this lovely site a few times now as it is close to family. It is a lovely large grass field with the most amazing toilet block set up, you just have to experience it.
In the next field there are sheep and alpacas which are very characterful, and there are red kites galore. I think someone local must feed them as at times there are about twenty flying around! The site is on the main road through Radnage, but it isn't a busy road, and most of the roads are single track with passing places, so make sure you come in from Stokenchurch.
There is a pub just up the road but we haven't been there yet as we are normally out and about with family.
The ground can get quite wet, as there isn't hardstanding, although Simon is doing his best to make a track and is very good at getting stuck people out, as we found out as we have a very heavy trailer! Simon and Lisa are lovely and friendly and the campsite is kept spotless.
The washing up area is outside so we didn't use that as it was too cold in winter, but in the summer I imagine it will be lovely. It is an open field with hedgerow by the road so can get a bit exposed, but that helps dry the ground out, and don't forget we visited over the height of winter!
Lovely campsite that we will return to in a flash!
Hard to know what to add beyond PeterinOxford's excellent review, as he's summed-up this wonderful little site very accurately! It is in lovely countryside with plenty of walks all around, the welcome from the owners is very warm, and the facilities are excellent, particularly considering it is 'just' a Certified Location site! And the 'locals' pub down the road is very friendly, with real ale and cider, together with surprisingly good food.
What really stands out is the attention to detail in all the little things that make camping easier and more comfortable - the hookups are clever little 'pods' that also have water connections and a drain to connect up your 'grey' waste, wash basins all have nice hand pump soaps and towel hooks alongside, the radiant heater lamp over the showing changing area to keep you lovely and toasty, the mesh set in the grass to stop things getting cut up and muddy, the washer and drier. Sure I've missed some!
We're firmly in the camp of LOVING the wash block - from the outside, it does look rather like a canvas 'nissan hut', but unzip the door and you're met with lots of shiny stainless steel, beautifully clean, bright and just amazing!
On the basis of the comment in one of the previous reviews about the showers, worth clarifying that the showers themselves are in individual cubicles with a curtain, but you need to step outside that into a communal area (one for men, one for women) to get dressed. If you're really worried about your privacy though, there are stools for you to put your clothes on, so you could probably move those next to the shower and get dressed in the shower cubicle itself (the curtains have little magnets sewn into them so that they click securely into place for privacy - another nice little touch!). Oh yes, the showers have great pressure too, more than we have at home, and plenty of hot water!
This site is just outside Stokenchurch in the Chilterns, it comprises a large well-drained (when we were there) field with lush turf, mesh was set in the grass in some areas for additional grip.
The owners are very friendly and could not be more helpful. The ablutions were striking, an ex-army but new domed area (tent does not do it justice) that carries a row of shining stainless WCs and showers.
Also contained in this terrific facility are washing machines and a good radiant heater that kept everything as warm as toast. Personally I would visit the site just to see this unique construction, in addition there were plenty of hookups. Walking is very enjoyable, set in lovely countryside, many nature reserves and a pleasant trek up Bledlow Ridge with a good pub at the top.
There is a narrow country road along the side of the field but very little traffic, so peace & quiet is good. Turn left out of the gate and a brisk 5 minute walk and there is a fine 'locals' pub selling nice food 'The Crown' no 'muzak' and the food is still served on plates!
The washing up sinks are outside but loads of hot water, mainly used by campers, being in a campervan we did not need to.
Just off the M42, this was a convenient stop over for me as I was heading for Heathrow early next morning to meet my daughter. Only 40 minutes away.
All grass site with a few electric points on a level field with some shelter. Nice rural location. Nothing specifically for children, just the field.
The facilities were clean if not a little unusual! Washing up was outside in an uncovered area. The rest were inside a huge insulated canvas tunnel. Plenty of loos and a washing machine. However, whilst there were half a dozen showers they were just a row of cubicles with shower curtains. I didn't bother as you'd need a second person to stand guard and hold the curtain shut!
I booked online, didn't see the site owner whilst I was there. Only stayed one night, so didn't explore around but there's a pub very close by and lots of info on their website. Legoland and Thorpe Park are within an hours drive for example.
