Most has already been said, but here goes for 2009.

Friendly 100%, courteous 100% and that's just the kids and dogs!

What's on site?

The facilities are basic, as has been said, 'like when we were kids' and they are immaculate. The water is hot and I had a lovely shower, plenty of room - unlike some more modern type showers I have stopped in where you battle to keep your clothes dry. The shower is a small step up. There are hooks for hanging and a stool for sitting on. Amble toilets, but yes only 2 showers.

The room with the pool/snooker table in was closed when we were there as it was technically shut. But the owner appeared on-hand to get out anything wanted.

We didn't use the washing room either, however we could hear music coming from the room.

There is a small but ample play area with a bench table for the adults to sit at.

The site is on top of a hill so there is some natural slopping and there are some gravel pitches going down.

Plenty of hook-up and water points. Plenty of bins and emptied daily.

The views are indeed stunning and there are plenty of walks from the site. The wildlife is also amazing and I will be taking some binoculars this time.

It is a nice walk into town (2 routes), even if you are not a walker. We walked back, there is handy bench at the top of the hill for a rest. However now I know the taxi is only £4.50 I'll likely be tempted!

Do not be deceived by the main street of Hexham as you drive through, behind the scenes it is a little haven of history!

There is plenty to do in Hexham and people are friendly and helpful. A huge TIC with bus stops outside. By the leisure centre. Buses run regularly from there to Hadrians Wall and the like and you can use an all day on/off ticket. Great cafe here as well - cheap and cheerful - several bikers there, always a good sign!

There is a 'newly' (so it looks) refurbished gaol house. Seemingly parts of a gatehouse which if I remember dated back to the 15th Century. The Church also looks amazing.

There are several pubs, some with the sports on. Various eateries including Indian, English, Italian.

Newsagents - at least one on the high street that we found and there is a garage, Shell I think.

This is a quiet area to chill out at, probably different on race meets. Appreciate the views and relax.

We arrived during a very heavy rain storm however the warden still came out to show us to the pitch.

The site is basic with everyone on grass, there is a large games room. In the toilet blocks with is 2 showers in both the gents & ladies. Plenty of drinking water points.

As said before you are a couple of miles outside the town which makes the site quiet at night. On a good day the views are magic.

We travelled to Gatehead to the Metro Shopping Centre and also visited the Angel of the North.

The price is low and if you want somewhere to relax this is the place.

I loved this site and would highly recommend it. £15 per night for hook up. Toilets / showers clean and spacious although in a dated building. Games room with tv.

Amazing view over the hills - so much sky! worth it just for this. It was very quiet while we were there and felt like it was right out in the countryside.

We walked down the hill into town with our children aged 6 and 8, a lovely market town with mostly independent shops. We had lunch in a cafe, shopped in a supermarket then got a taxi back up the hill, cost £4.50.

Would also recommend Brocksbushes farm shop just down the A69 towards Newcastle - great food & cafe

Spent the weekend here while there was a Saturday race day. The site is right on the edge of the race track so you can get excellent views of the racing without actually going into the ground. People staying at the site get into the racegroung half price.

The site is grassy and fairly level. Facilities are dated, but they are well maintained and plentiful. Views from the site are excellent, but it can get chilly and breezy, even on the sunniest days. However, this is the highest racecourse in the country, so it is to be expected.

The site is a couple of miles outside Hexham. It's a nice walk into town and takes about forty minutes, but it is a very long and steep walk back, so it's best to get a taxi on return. The town is well worth a visit, with its busy market, numerous pubs and restaurants and many shops and large supermarkets.

We have just returned from this site which we will definitely be returning to. The people that ran the site were very helpful and friendly, even showing you to your pitch. The games room was more than adequate.
Hexham was only 5 minutes down the road which has numerous take-aways and 24 hours tescos for essentials.

We were lucky to get a spot on this site in November as it was officially closed, but there was an event on, so the warden allowed us to stay. The site is a couple of miles out of Hexham, adjacent to one of the highest racecourses in Britain. Pitches were flat and dry and all offered excellent views over the racetrack towards beautiful countryside. I am looking forward to using this track for a day at the races next season. The facilities were spacious but very basic and not the cleanest, possibly due to the time of season we were there. However, there was always hot water in the showers and dishwashing area. There's a large games room with pool, table football, table tennis and air hockey. Site owner was very welcoming and friendly. Overall a great site, which I intend to return to next year.

We loved this site, and to be honest I shouldn't be telling you lot about it, cos its a treasure LOL
It's 2 miles outside of Hexham.  The site itself is big with 3 different areas with a toilet block and games room in the middle.  The toilet block was really big with enough toilets and handbasins.  Only 2 showers, with queues in the mornings, so try to get a shower at night.  There was a hairdryer for free, with buttons to adjust the temperature.
The games room had a pool table that cost 30p (10p's only), a tv, table tennis and football tables, and air hockey.  Kids and teenagers plus a few adults were in there til late, around 11.30pm.
The warden (owner?) was brilliant, told us to pay when we liked, they only take cash or cheque. He came around daily to empty bins and was on site, though it was a very free site and very relaxed.
The pitches are fairly level, though some do make you lean slightly so you may need chocks.  Plenty of electric hookups.  The views were amazing and right next to racecourse, in fact it was in front of us, and would be amazing on race days.  There is a play park for the kids up near to the reception, its an old type, the type that some of us had when we were kids LOL.  Kids loved it.
It's 5 mins by car into Hexham, a lovely town with quaint little shops and also well known ones.  Lots of takeaways and a 24hr Tesco.  Hubby went into town and said the people were very friendly.there was a farmers market on.  Just down the road from Hexham on the way to Newcastle is a fruit farm and you can also pick your own fruit.  Newcastle and the Metro Centre is only about 25 miles away.
Kielder is 25 miles from Hexham and there is also Hadrians Wall.  There is just so much to see and do we needed longer than a weekend.
Loved the site.  Its very relaxed, and quiet most of the time but gets noisy at night with kids in the games room as it echoes.  Didn't bother us but might bother others.  The warden/owner made the site as he set the tone.
