This is going to mark THREE successive years that we've visited Comforts Farm and, quite frankly, we'd never even consider, from choice, any other Site on the Island.
Till now we've used our tents, but this year I'll be towing our Monza caravan there (and carrying the big 9-man tent for my Son's use) - my booking welcome was in no way diminished when I said that we'd be arriving at some unearthly hour like 3.00AM !
Basic it may be, sloping in lots of places it maybe, but the WELCOME, the FAMILY atmosphere, the *nothing's too much trouble* attitude of the family site owners, the sheer convenience of things MORE than compensate !
Power hook-ups, Toilet/Shower blocks which are regularly and thoroughly cleaned, laundry/wash facilities, disabled units . It's all there.
Pallance Road is a bus route straight into Cowes, and connections to services right across the Island for hassle-free trips to other parts, and the TRAVELLERS JOY pub is a very short walk from the Farm . Standard pub food, admittedly, but the service is great and the beers simply have to rank among the best kept that I've ever tasted.
All-in-all it's a great site, with plenty of room, lots to explore, and is certainly an as yet relatively undiscovered jewel !
A lovely campsite that no-one seems to have heard of. I'm loathe to mention it really as its our little get away!
Situated just outside of Newport and a short car journey to Cowes, Comforts Farm is a real get away site. Its only half an hour from the ferry at Yarmouth, and about forty minutes from Ryde ferry. We took the hovercraft from Ryde to the mainland for the day for about £13.
There is a pub just up the lane from the site which serves okay-ish food! The Octopus' Garden cafe in Cowes does great comfort food.
If you like simple no fuss campsites then this is for you. The toilets and showers are simple and cleaned regularly. There is a disabled shower/loo too which is great for families.
There is also a washing room where you can dish wash and clothes wash. I don't remember if there is a washing machine, but there is a spin drier and airer.
The field is on a slope but there is more than enough flat ground too. There are electric hook ups along two sides of the field and these are under trees, so good in hot weather. There is no shade in the main area of the field.
The site is also used by islanders who let out their homes during peak season and there is a real family feel to the site.
No play area but plenty of campsite to explore. Look out for slow worms!
Loads to do in the area, which is away from the usual touristy bit of the island. See the needles at sunset and make sure you go to the Chessell Studio pottery cafe at the START of your stay if you want to take your creations home with you!
I'd strongly recommend visiting during Cowes week. You'll be better cycling or getting the bus into Cowes though as parking is at a premium. There is a fantastic fireworks display at the end of the week which is simply superb.
In a nutshell, a lovely cheap, clean simple site. Ideal for a family or a quiet escape.
