We have used this site very many times over the past two years and we have never been disappointed. The site is always immaculately kept and the owners friendly and welcoming.
If you are looking to get away from it then this is a site for you but if you are looking for a site that has everything in the way of toilets/showers, children's swing park etc., then this isn't a site for you. We have travelled most of the UK and parts of western Europe with our caravan but this is always the site my husband says is his favourite if anyone asks.
We agree with all the positive remarks made in the comments left by other campers.

This was our first time as we have just bought the caravan and we absolutely loved it. It was so peaceful and we were so chilled out that we visited this site twice in the month of September. The site is well kept and spotlessly clean and the owners are very nice and helpful. There is no toilet or shower block so it was lovely to use our own. It was great fun discovering how to use all the facilities in our caravan. We walked along the river chelmer several times because that was peaceful and it was a nice walk to papermill lock, where we had something to eat. You are able to choose between hard standing or grass pitches. Water is close to hand and it's not far to the chemical waste. The shops and take away are within a mile and a half. It is also about a 20 minute drive to chelmsford for a lovely day out as well. We will definitely return.

A very nice clean flat site, quite a lot of trees, can't avoid parking under some of them,a couple of pitches in the open if you are lucky. There are some very nice walks that surround the site, not to far for a cup of tea at Paper Mill Lock. Don't go by the post code information, it takes you up Church Road, the site is on the corner of Hammonds Road & Church Road, opposite the mill house. Pity about the lack of toilet & shower block, but who knows about the future?

Lovely site with equally lovely owners, no facilities, as mentioned in the other reviews,I managed fine with on-board loo and shower, very nice area, great shops within 5 minutes.
One thing not mentioned in the other reviews is the price, I paid only £10 a night which is almost as cheap as a municipal site in France, great value for money and perfect if like me you are not bothered about bells and whistles and just like somewhere nice and quite to chug a cold one and strum a banjo.

The campsite is set in the lovely English countryside, with views over a church.
A riverside walk to Paper Lock Mill and Teashop
And also footpaths to villages/churches/pubs
We spent 4 days just relaxing and walking our three dogs, it is very peaceful and ideal for anyone who enjoys walking and photography
The owners really welcome you, and we will definitely will return

We had booked another site but when we arrived it was a dump so very last minute called this site to ask if they could accommodate us for a few days. Very friendly and helpful reception had us on site and set up about 90 minutes later. Had previously overlooked this as a potential due to there not being toilet/shower facilities but I need not have worried as we coped fine using our on board facilities. Site is a level area with some nice mature trees to camp around. There are numerous drinking water points and on site waste/recycling. There is also a disposal drain for your toilet waste. Area is very peaceful and there is Co-op/Chinese/Fish & Chips just a 5 minute drive up the road if needed. Very good access to the A12 and the local area. Will definitely stay here again.

Lovely site and owners, I have just returned from a short break with my family.
We have two girls aged 7 and 4 both of them really enjoyed themselves even though there isn't any swings or park for them.
Nice area for ballgames and running around though. A great place to spend time with the family.
Views are lovely from the site, overlooking farmland to a local church. There are also some lovely walks along the local river with locks, boats and fishing. Only a 2 minute stroll to the river, then a 30 minute amble to a lovely riverside cafe with cream teas, cakes and sandwiches to purchase. Rowing boats, canoes and even narrow boats for hire.
Pitches are very spacious with 16amp hook ups. No toilet or shower block, so own sanitation required but it least it gives everyone a chance to use their own "lovely big bathroom" that they probably have only ever used in a real emergency!
This couple renovated the beautiful Millhouse that was derelict up until around 7 years ago, the actual camping site is now in it's 3rd season and definitely worth a visit.
When visiting we pulled straight into the site entrance and then walked back over the lane to the Millhouse to book ourselves in.
We only need to visit the owners on two occasions, once to buy some of their duck eggs freshly laid that morning and the 2nd occasion was to return the empty egg box.
We will be visiting this site again.
