This is a lovely campsite. We've just returned from 10 days here (2 adults, 2 children, 1 very large tent) There's some statics (30ish) on the site as well as tourers but these are in their own area of the site. Pitches vary in size ours was plenty big enough for our tent and car. The ground was very stony under the topsoil so remember to bring good pegs.
The pool is clean a lovely size, not too small, big enough and deep enough to swim but not too deep for the children with slides and a jacuzzi. It is very cold though and could do with being heated. Speedo stlye trunks only for men/boys.
In the summer there's plenty to keep the kids amused with organised games of football, water polo, table tennis, archery, bingo, kids club aquagym etc. The organiser was great, my kids enjoyed themselves especially archery.
Pitches were clean and tidy, gardeners doing lots of tidying, mowing, pruning etc.
Toilets / showers / washing facilities kept spotless. We had no problems with lack of hot water, there always seemed plenty. Showers were fine with an area to dry and dress, a hook and small stool to put washbag on. Toilet paper outside the toilets was rather strange at first but you get used to it. What was strange was that the sinks nearest the toilets were for washing up in, if you wanted a proper hand wash basin you had to walk past a row of sinks to get there.
In a good location for visiting lots of places including WW2 beaches and ideally placed for catching the ferry in Cherbourg, although we opted for the longer cheaper trip via Calais (5 and a half hours ish including a couple of stops). It's only a few minutes drive to a sandy beach, all the beaches we went on were clean.
There's a large lake that seemed to keep the fishermen happy, childrens playground handily next to the washing up area. Bar prices seemed reasonable though we only went in a couple of times. It is only a few minutes walk into a lovely little town which has Intermarch, Champion and Aldi supermarkets as well as a whole range of small shops. Although the weather was changeable we had a good time and I would recommend the site and will return if visiting this part of France again.
L'Etang is approx 40 mins from Cherbourg which makes it an ideal stopping off place after or before a channel crossing or as a base for discovering the Normandy area. During our stay we met many people who have used the site for a number of years, some spending the whole of their holiday at L'Etang. In addition to the pool with a water slide there is also a small kiddies play area.
Patrice the owner is very friendly, toilets were clean (toilet paper are in holders attached to the wall outside the toilets, showers are on the small side) and the pitches are well kept, hedges made them quite private. The lake is full of carp some over 20lb. Ideal for dad to introduce his children to fishing. Prices in the bar are reasonable.
Access from Cherbourg is easy but from the St Michael side if using the bypass do not follow the sign near the supermarket this takes you down a narrow winding road. Carry on to the roundabout and follow the signs for La Haye du Puits site is first on right. La Haye is a nice small town with bars and restaurants. Worth visiting are the sandy beaches bet. Granville and Coutance (miles long). The harbour at Carteret (ferry port for Jersey) has some good restaurants, L'Hermitage 16 euros for 3 course lunch, the moules and frittes at the bar / restaurant next door are fab. Would visit again and stay longer.
We attended the Camping&caravanning club rally here in August 2007 and although the weather was dissapointing we had an enjoyable time
The site is well run and has good swimming pool which overlooks the fishing lake there is also a bar ajoining the pool which serves reasonably priced snacks and a good selection of beers and spirits . If fishing is your thing then you will like this site as it has a well stocked lake with plenty of Carp .
The site has two shower blocks which were kept reasonably clean although the hot water was sometimes in short supply, there is also a games room and outdoor play area .
The pitches were reasonably level and most would be big enough to accomodate twin axle caravans.
The town of La Haye Du Puit is about 10 minutes walk from the site and has plenty of shops and supermarkets to suit all your needs
In the surrounding area there are many beaches to visit and if world war 2 is your interest the D-Day beaches are worth a seeing
This is a good site and I would return again
