We spent two nights here on a very busy weekend. Their web site indicates this is a 180 pitch site, but we're sure there were many more tents than that.
There were a large number of groups - they allow groups so we were prepared for that. The 'no amplified music' rule in the 'Code of Conduct' on their web site is almost universally ignored, but it does get quieter by 11pm. There were a large number of groups playing ball games round tents. We didn't see any cause damage, but that's probably just luck; tents and cars were continually being hit with footballs / cricket balls / etc. There didn't seem to be any point complaining about it, as almost every group of kids were playing all around the site.
The facilities are woefully inadequate for the size of the place. I have been to sites less than half the size with more than twice the number of showers / toilets this one has. We had to queue for showers, toilets and washing up every time. The showers were cold every time I used them and on the last day hardly working at all – a bit of a dribble with the occasional spurt.
At one point, the water tap in our field stopped working and we had to walk over to the main block for water. On another occasion the showers / washing up area was closed due to 'brown water'.
The surrounding area is great. We went to Bodiam Castle and spent a day in Hastings. There's plenty more to see in the area so we will return, but not to this site.
We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Park Farm, with 6 families. We picked this campsite as, from other reviews we have read, it is perfect for large groups, you are able to have camp fires and Bodium Castle is no more than a 30 min walk away. For these 3 reasons and these 3 reasons alone, this campsite was perfect.
When we arrived Friday lunchtime, Park Farm was reasonably busy. The young lady at reception was very welcoming. We were told that we could pitch anywhere, as we did not require a hook up. No other guidelines were given to us, so we started to pitch up and set up camp. About 45 mins into setting up, we were told that we had to move 1 of our tents, so that the static residence could gain access! Thsi really was not clear. We asked if the position of the other tents were ok, and the response was yes! We were then greeted with disgruntled residence who did not like where we were pitched! Not a welcoming start.
It would be such a good idea if Park Farm marked out a perimeter in front of the statics so that people pitching up and the poor static residence, who obviously pay a yearly ground rent, can have a decent amount of access to their pitches without one disturbing the other. There was no space, between tents, as cars are also allowed alongside. Again, as a group, we felt this was quite dangers, as we would not have been able to exit the site in an emergency, as all our cars were blocked in by other campers arriving after us. This was also very dangers with young children around.
By the end of Friday night, their must have been 200 plus tents/caravans on the site and we still had people moving their vehicles at 11:30pm! In the morning the hot water in the shower block was gone by 6. 45am, as the boilers could not cope with the demand quick enough. We experienced this first hand Saturday evening. Myself and my 6 year old daughter were using the showers, they turned extremely cold mid shower then stopped completely! I was just very appreciative that it was me that was still covered in shampoo and not her! Basically, this large site has 1 facilities block; 6 showers per male and female block and a very small area for washing up. We experienced no waiting time for the toilets, but it was clear that the site team were struggling with the high demand of people, as some of the toilets became blocked and the cleanliness dropped!
It is such a shame, as with a few changes, this site could be amazing, with its perfect location, being able to buy fire wood for the camp fire and its focus on groups. We felt that they were purely getting people through the gates for the money. We are not entirely sure what our £20 a night actually paid for, it certainly wasn’t the ‘Unlimited free hot water’ as quoted on their website.
A simple but very well-kept site, perfect for families with an excellent play area. Very reasonably priced as well. Tent pitches are not strictly defined, so it was lovely for our visit in a group of families, as we could make a little circle with our tents and campers.
The toilet/shower block was decent and clean. No real other facilities but perfect for what we wanted. Best of all, camp-fires are allowed and even encouraged!
Bodiam castle is a walk away and there are various other attractions very nearby
We had a great weekend at Park Farm. The pitch was a good size for camper and large awning. Area for a campfire, you can buy logs, kindling and firelighters at a reasonable price. The field was well kept, mown and tidy. Toilet, shower and washing up facilities were a little shabby but very clean. Fantastic showers. The owners were very easy going about where you could pitch, they gave us three areas to choose from, also people with tents seemed to be able to choose wherever they wanted. Great little shop and cafe, nothing flash but very useful if needed. We didn't have kids with us but there appeared to be lots of things for them to amuse themselves with, rope swings, play park and lots of room to play. Lovely area, Bodium castle, steam railway, museums, walks and lots more.
One minus is that there is not a local shop in the immediate area so don't forget any supplies.
All in all a good weekend that we are sure to repeat.
We have stayed at here a few times now, previously we have stayed further away from the main site and facilities around the wheat field on the hill, this is great if you like a bit of privacy but a long trek to the toilets etc. This time however we went with different friends who preferred to be closer to the facilities, we still really enjoyed the weekend and atmosphere.
I like the fact that if you are not using electric there are no set pitches and you can set yourself up how you like, however in the main site it did become busy over Saturday and Sunday of the May bank holiday making it important to get there early to be setup where you like and have enough space.
The facilities are ok, they were kept clean however with only one shower block for this size site it can get very busy and of you are not early enough there is no hot water for the showers.
On the whole this is a nice relaxed site that allows campfires and we will certainly be going back again for more weekend stays.
Camped at park farm for the first bank holiday in May. What a lovely campsite. Very laid back, if you don't need an electric hook up then no need to book. Just turn up, pay up and pitch up - can't get any easier than that!
The facilities are clean and appeared to be cleaned regularly. Showers were warm and never had to queue. In the evenings some campers were playing music but it wasn't too loud and they were asked to turn off any music after 11pm. It's also great to be able to have camp fires and a pickup truck drives around the site in the afternoon to sell fire wood. The fire was definitely needed as it got quite cold at night but so nice to look up and see a clear sky full of stars!
I shall definitely be returning to the campsite again.
We have just returned from a lovely stay at Park Farm camping. Firstly I had communicated with Jackie to book and she was really helpful and met our needs. We had been told we would have a plot by the children play area but to our suprise when we arrived Jackie had moved us to the Corn Field which was much quiter obviously and had a lovely view.
We walked along the river to Bodiam castle which took around half an hour, had a look around the castle and a drink in the Castle Inn which was a lovely pub. We then enjoyed the view from our motorhome and had fun in the park which my nearly 13 year old enjoyed.
We also drove into Rye old town which is stunning and then onto Rye Harbour where there is a nature reserve which was really enjoyable, the sea looked gorgeous.
There is a small mobile shop and also a catering van that was very busy Sunday morning selling bacon/sausage butties etc - we didn't eat from here as we had our own facilities but it seemed very popular.
Facilities seemed plenty - I never had to queue for bathroom, they weren't spotless but were more than acceptable and checked on a regular basis.
If you are looking for a 'Park Resorts' experience with entertainment on tap this isn't the site for you. If you want to have fun with your family/friends around a campfire going back to nature then this site is for you. There were many large groups camped together around a fire, there was NO issue with noise either morning or night and it was lovely to hear laughter of families together.
We will return without a doubt and I will ask to stay in the Corn Field again. If you have younger children then this perhaps isn't the most ideal position as you can't see the park.
Unfortunately not the best campsite we’ve been to. The Camp Rules are no amplified music and no noise after 11PM, however there were many groups of people with music blaring (including loud car stereos) all day right up until well after midnight. There were gangs of teenagers running around screaming and swearing until the early hours of the morning. Fortunately the warden dealt with the situation fairly quickly but seemed to turn a blind eye to the loud music, parties and dogs running off the lead. The facilities are basic; many days there was no hot water and no lights in the ladies washroom (and no plugs in the sinks). On the positive side, the staff kept the toilets and washrooms very clean in quite challenging conditions as it rained every day for a week whilst we were there. We were a group of 3 families with children from 2 to 9 and we love a good time just as much as the next camper but there seem to be little respect for your fellow camping neighbours. It’s a relaxed site, ideal for groups but just a little bit too relaxed with management not able to uphold the rules. Sorry, but not sure we will be returning.
Last week, my girlfriend and I decided that we would go camping for the first time as a couple (and the first time for me EVER). I don't think we could have picked a much better place to break my camping virginity. We arrived on a Saturday, a time at which the site was quite busy with many tents and fires dotted all over the three fields Park Farm boasts. Although at first we were a tad disconcerted, the numbers meant there was great atmosphere throughout.
Sunday was a completely different kettle of fish. Almost all at once, the tents around us packed up and set off home, leaving us an our little 2 man in the middle of a huge field almost on our own. This revealed a completely different side to the site, a side that allowed for a really mellow, relaxed and even romantic time. The site remained this way for the following two days at which time we sadly had to pack our things and head home.
I guess if camping with others isn't your bag, come on a weekday. I was assured by staff that the Sunday transformation is a regular occurrence and when we return (which we certainly will) it'll be on a Monday. This isn't to say that the Saturday wasn't great, it's just the weekdays made us feel like we could be anywhere in the world.
My three children, my wife and I arrived at Park Farm last monday and decided we were going to stay for the week. Having already booked an electric hookup over email, we turned up without a hitch (not literally) and we set up for the night. It was a lovely quite week and we got all that we were promised; lovely open fires, clean facilities and a great play area. The pitches we were in (Green something) was extremely spacious and ideally placed for toilets/showers etc. One of the highlights of the week was the walk to picturesque Bodiam Castle. The well walked path along the river rother begins in the camp site itself and takes you all of the way to the castle and pub! Great food and beer garden!
The staff on site are extremely helpful and quick to assist in any way they can. We originally forgot our orange electric lead but were thankfully relieved by the caretaker who rushed over with one of their own.
This was our first visit to Park Farm so as it was short notice, we telephoned to check availability. Our call was answered quickly. We were told to just come along as we didn't need an electric hook-up. We
Arrived on a friday at about midday. It is cash only, which was fine as we had read this on the website. Pitches are not marked out so we could choose our spot. Although a little busier, we chose the first field as it is near the play area and shower block. Our 7 year old went straight off to play while we set up. Over the weekend the sight got very busy but it was a good atmosphere, although a little noisier, which was to be expected. The toilets and showers are perfectly adequate and regularly cleaned. The toilet tissue in the ladies only ran out once on the Saturday due to the volume of people but this was replaced as soon as possible.
I loved the fact that camp fires are allowed and logs sold on site for £3. 50 per bag ( 2 bags lasted us 3 nights).
The snack bar is great and the owners can't do enough for you.
All in all, this is a lovely child friendly site with a relaxed feel. If you don't like a lively atmosphere, my advise would be to avoid weekends.
It is also a great base for visiting Bodium castle, which with a child is about a 35 minute walk along the river.
I would definitely go back for another visit and would recommend to others.
Park farm is one of the most complete campsites I've visited in my 20 years of camping. Now visiting with children, the site was everything we wanted it to be. Safe, clean and friendly. With a large space that allows you can pitch wherever you'd like, you have the opportunity to go in shade, by the river, near the toilets, near the playground, as far away from all of the above as you'd like etc etc. The staff here were extremely helpful and friendly which made the holiday extremely jolly and, above anything else, easy.
The facilities and their cleanliness was great, and it was obvious that they worked hard to maintain this. I visited when the site was extremely busy, but, as I mentioned, you pitch wherever you like, which enabled me to go in a quiet area. Camp fires made for the best of atmospheres. There aren't many places that allow this these days, which is a shame. Our kids couldn't get enough. A real family treat!
I wanted to add that there was a small food kiosk on site that sold delicious burgers, fajitas and baked potatoes. The couple that run this are great and really sorted our family with great food and laughs.
We have been to this site several times and the things we love about it are the river swimming, when hot enough, walks to bodiam castle and great pub just opposite, food fab, not cheap but worth it for a treat. The site is very rural and massive, kids play area is massive including an undercover play area in barn. Its a very popular site and sometimes can get crowded. The only downside for me is the late night parties, there, s a great atmosphere and we always have a great time but don't expect lights out at 11pm, more like 2am ! We like to have fires and a few drinks but as we have kids, it lights out for us around 11pm and we have been kept awake by larger much younger groups, we were young once, so do understand but as there is so much room at park farm and 3 fields, then maybe they should think about putting the larger groups together in back field.
