Great site! First visit here & it won't be the last. Excellent pitches by the stream, breezy enough to keep the midges away. Very good facilities in purpose built portakabins. Good washing up area under cover. You can have a campfire in the fire rings provided. Buy logs from the farm. Good walking in the area too.
We were lucky with the weather but the pitches appeared to drain well. Some of the pitches looked to be on a bit of a slope but smaller tents would be OK.
This was my very first experience of camping and although I only stayed at this site for one night I had a wonderful time. The owners, the daughter and her friend helping with the lambing were incredibly helpful and welcoming.
The camping field was lovely and had a great stream running through the middle of it. The facilities including showers and bathrooms, were spotless.
Great site, really quiet and lovely views. The owners were very helpful and most accommodating, they even supply wood for fires, absolutely essential when camping in my opinion.
Chargers for the pitch were quite reasonable and the showers were completely OK considering they were sited in an old container, excellent use I thought.
The proximity to Million was handy for shopping.
Would definitely return to this site when in the area next
Just returned from a week tent camping at Baystone Bank Farm. Myself, girlfriend and three children (8, 7 and 4).
It is a very quiet site, but child and dog friendly. The farmers couldn't be more helpful, or do enough for us. The camp is basic but with Ladies and Gents toilets and two showers, all working great and spotlessly clean.
Camp fires are allowed in steel wheel rims that are provided and the farmer sells a very large bag or box of fire wood including firelights at a very reasonable price.
At first we thought the children would be bored with no play area, but this wasn't the case. They never stopped - playing in the stream, in the field or just exploring the farm.
Millom is only 3/4 miles away and has all the amenities including: banks, take always, cash points, petrol station and a medium sized Tesco store.
Great little place. It is a working farm but you wouldn't know. There are 3 camping fields in total, 2 on one side of the stream and one on the other. There is a bridge to cross and if feeling brave you can drive through the stream. Very laid back atmosphere and the owner was great. Very friendly, helpful and chatty. Fire pits available and a must. Wood was £5 a bag.
Toilet and shower facilities are in a Portable cabin but are very clean and do what they should. 2 ladies and 1 male toilet, 2 showers(Free) and a pot wash area. Dogs are allowed and have plenty a space to play, just please clean up after them. We didn't venture around the local area as we just went for a lazy weekend and catch up with friends, but its great countryside for a wonder or to just sit and stare at.
We will definitely be visiting Baystone Bank again and again, loved it.
Nestling in the beautiful Eskdale Valley close to Scafell, England's highest mountain and Wastwater, this site is a children's paradise in the heart of the Lake District. The first thing that meets you on arrival is the pond, fed by a stream and usually full of children paddling and playing on tyre rafts. The playground has zip wires, climbing frames, tyre rope-swings and adventure courses.
Grass pitches (some with EHU) for tents, motorhomes, VW-sized campervans (no caravans). Refurbished toilets, showers and laundry. Peace is the watchword on the campsite - catering mainly for families and couples with silence after 10.30pm. Don't forget your marshmallows - campfires are allowed in selected areas. Nearby shop and pub. And there's an added extra: the site sits along the route of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway line, with it's own station. Choo Choo! Find out more here
Just spent a weekend with the family at this site. It was the first time we had taken dogs with us so we chose a location that was not on the tourist trail.
We were not disappointed, and they do not charge extra for dogs, gazebos etc. Personally I find it quite irritating when you get charged extra for gazebos etc.
We had a small field (The orchard) to ourselves right next to the stream.
Toilets were clean and showers were free (included in the price).
The Owners were friendly and helpful and the location was stunning.
We went to the local beach a couple of times and also went for a hike up the Duddon Valley. Fire pits are also available.
This campsite is in a beautiful location, close to the Black Coombe fells, fabulous for walkers. We stayed two nights and found the facilities quite good, though could do with more toilets and showers during a bank holiday period. However the facilities were kept clean and well supplied.
It was lovely to see small children enjoying the camping here and playing together on the large field. Just a short drive to the coast or to small town nearby with pubs serving meals.
Had a great nights sleep the first night but unfortunately there was a big group of people only a few metres away from us separated by hedges who, on our second night, partied all night long until 5am playing music, talking loudly and chopping wood! I had a long drive back home the following day without any sleep which was not good.
I would stay again as its so beautiful here and the owners very nice and helpful - probably wouldn't stay at a weekend or bank holiday again but possibly go mid-week.
We visited the site at a last minute find on here, we only stayed the one night but what a good night it was. I was travelling with my sister in law and three children 6, 7, and 8 years old, when we arrived the farmer was up the fells but came straight down to meet us and he was really helpful as in our 1 night stay we received his help on several occasions including lighting a camp fire for us, very friendly and even let the children ride in his tractor which they loved. The site enjoyed many stunning views of some well known mountains and was a very quiet place to camp. There is a town bout 4 mile away which had plenty of amenities and very friendly, we recommend try out ck's takeaway if you visit the village, the campsite is very reasonable on price and well known to some well know attractions. The only down side that we found was the toilets were a bit far away especially when your daughter needs to go at 4. 15am (laugh out loud), but they were very clean. We would definitely recommend this campsite and we will be coming back.
We stayed on this campsite for the Easter weekend, we nearly didn't go as the weather took a turn for the worse just before we were thinking of setting off but we decided to brave it.
We could not be more pleased that we decided to make the 5 hour journey to the Lake District for our Easter! This campsite is everything we were looking for! We had a fabulous camping spot in the orchard next to the stream surrounded by rolling hills with the sheep with their new born lambs for company. We were allowed a fire outside our tent for our cooking - though it rained quite a bit on one day so we couldn't light it! - and the farmer even invited us to the barn to watch a calf being born. The facilities include everything you need, clean toilets, showers with hot water! and a sheltered pot washing area.
The site is situated in a valley and is not very big so its very quiet, there is plenty of exploring to be done around the camp so make sure you take your walking boots. The coast is a short drive away and there is a choice of pebbles, sand or cliffs on the coastline. Barrow-in-Furness is not far and has plenty of shops in case of a camping supply emergency (lesson learned!) and there is a Tesco in Millom which is about a 10 minute drive.
We had a very enjoyable break which was only improved by staying at this fabulous campsite and meeting the farmer and his wife who run it. If you are in the area this site is highly recommended by us, we will certainly be returning in future!
I had some problems with getting in contact when mailing from Denmark for reservation, because the mails seem not to be read very often, so it might be better to phone.
We - Mum and 2 children - had a wonderful stay at Baystone Bank Farm. Also our friends, who arrived later, were very impressed by the beautiful location and the extreme helpfulness of the owners. Our friend had noticed too late that there was no EHU, which he needed for an oxygen mask he needs when sleeping, the problem was immediately solved by installing an extension from a plug in the old cow shed.
First our tent was pitched in the 'orchard', close to the stream, but we gave up because of the midges and moved to the (slightly sloping) main campsite field, where there is a wonderful view to the mountains and the coast and enough breeze to keep the midges away.
The toilet/shower facilities are, as mentioned before, basic, but they were the cleanest I've seen in a long time! After having been to many campsites were you don't know were to put your clothes/stuff when having a shower, it was nice that there had been thought of a long bench and lots of pegs.
The dishwashing area was an old table with some diswashing bowls, we had to get the water from the showers and didn't quite know where to put the used water. There is a kitchen sink waiting for installation in the corner of the barn where the facilities are.
The aforementioned dismantling of the reservoir was still going on, but to be honest we didn't hear much of it - too far away from the main camp field, and in the orchard the noise from the stream is too loud to hear anything else.
We loved to watch (and hear!)the owner work with the sheep and the dogs; for the kids this and the big grassy field were enough to keep them entertained for hours.
It was cheap, friendly owners, a beautiful location, nice walks nearby, and only few minutes drive to the coast and to Millom, where there are pubs and a supermarket.
For those - like me - who love a basic site with much of nature around, this is a wonderful place.
We will certainly come again next time we are in England for a camping holiday, and stay longer then 6 nights!
