Very well kept and maintained site and nice area to explore.
Site staff were friendly however the strict nature of how the site was run was a tad too much at times. A little more customer friendly approach would not go amiss. That said facilities were clean and well maintained. Local area information was plentiful although some of the leaflets were for attractions that were really a touch too far for anymore than a weekend stay.
Words of warnings though, loo blocks were closed from 10:30 to 12 each day for cleaning. This did seem excessive and only leave one disabled loo for use, thus big queues at times. Also site is prne to lots of wind. If in a tent avoid the far end of the site near the playground as it seems to tunnel wind and the tall trees behind create a lot of noise.
Overall a reasonable good site and nice weekend had but probably one I wouldn't rush back to.
I arrived here on the Tuesday night very stressed after a bad day and the staff were very nice but again, I was amazed to find that because I had now brought a friend I had to pay over another £10 a night - what do the club think he is going to use to cost that! Site was nice and quiet, toilets and showers good but again, toilets close for a whole 1.5 hours for cleaning! Good pitch, would stay here again if I couldn't find anywhere nearby available but I really think the C/C club are charging now to the state where camping on their grounds is going to be quite elitest.
A very good site, pleasant greeting from warden very clean & modern toilet / shower block. Open site without 'defined' pitches but plenty of space. Good location for visiting Lowestoft and the Broads with a pub by the entrance to the site. The site shares its entrance with the Africa Alive 'Attraction'.
As it's right on the doorstep we visited the animal park, quite a pleasant place but would be better enjoyed with young children. Other reviwers have mentioned noise from the animal park, all we could hear we 'exotic' birds which were in no way a problem in fact added something to our stay.
We were in a tourer, perhaps in a tent it may be more obtrusive (but I can't believe it to be a problem) If in the area again we would not hesitate to return to this site.
What a nice site this is,just had a week, end of the month & unfortunately the ground was soaking due, the warden, Mr Connolly told me to weeks of rain.Even so the ground seemed to to draining well enough, & Mr C was very flexible with our pitching arrangements, weather he could be the same at the height of the season is another matter,& the whole site was level.
A fantastic toilet/showerblock, best & biggest showers we've seen, perhaps a couple more toilets could be needed at busy times. The camp shop didn't stock much at all, we thought this was because it was so late in the season,, but other reviewers say not! however there are plenty of shops in Kessingland Inc a petrol station,& Morrisons is about 10 mins away if you need more.
There is a small kids play area on site& a very small dog walk, but you can also walk dogs on the large grass verges along the shared access road which also serves Africa Wild, (noise wasn't a problem) there is a poo bin there also, so no excuses!
We were limited with what we could do because we took the dog, so I can't comment on the local pub,but it looked very nice. A 20 min walk will take you down to the beach, but be aware its not a 'Sandy Cornwall 'type, most of the beaches around that area are shingle & shelve very steeply into the sea, the waves are powerful as our dog found out almost to his and our cost, however their fantastically beautiful & dramatic,
this area is a photographers paradise, so don't miss Southwold & Aldeburgh to name just two lovely, unspoiled places. No doubt about it,
Have stayed here a couple of times when cycling touring in Norfolk and Suffolk.
The wardens are always very friendly and the campsite has nice large grass pitches. There is a large carboot sale in the field opposite every Sunday, which can be a bit noisy if you like a sleep in. The animals from the Africa wildlife park next door also add some interesting sound effects.
The toilets / showers are clean with plentiful hotwater and availability (we tend to visit out of peak season).
There is a pub just up the road which serves food. It’s nothing to right home about, but pleasant enough after a day in the saddle.
A large well maintained and very busy site with one block of good spacious clean shower / toilet facilities. We did feel that the three toilets in the mens was insufficient at peak times with people queueing. We noted two family rooms locked the whole week as it was out of school holidays, despite this the site was full and would have benefited from these being open.
The reception sold minimal, but necessary provisions and there was a grocery store within a 10 minute walk. A small playground was also available. A fish/chip van comes on site on a Friday and there is a car boot sale near the shared entrance on Sundays.
There is a good pub near the shared entrance to Africa Alive and the Campsite that was very friendly and served good food. Within walking distance of the site was a grocery store and post office, Morrisons superstore was also within 10 minute drive. Two minutes from the site was Africa Alive which was excellent, and offered a supplemental pass to campers that gave you unlimited entrance for an additional £3 on top of the price of normal entrance fee - definitely worth every penny and multiple visits.
Kessingland beach was 1.5 miles walk from the site, although not suitable for bathing as most of it was grassy and the rest pebbled, dogs were very welcome. This also put you on the Suffolk Coastal Path which was the only major walk available without your car, the rest of the time you would need to use your car. We did find St Michael's Church ruins 5 miles from the site off the coastal path at Covehithe and this had a smaller church built within - quite novel we thought, and again worth the walk.
Lowestoft was a nice place to visit within a 20 drive and 45 minute drive was Great Yarmouth so we were told - we're not into seaside towns or shopping so didn't venture.
An excellent, clean, and very well maintained site.
The ground is quite hard for pegs but not impossible.
Toilet block is very clean and well looked after with good roomy showers. The only problem here that we had were the queue's every morning as they closed at 10:30 and the site was full.
The children's play area is OK but no ball games were allowed on the site.
There is a pub next to the site, however, it did not allow dogs in, and to be honest didn't look that inviting anyway.
The beach is only about 1.5M walk from the site so very easy to walk to.
More than enough local supermarkets close by, with Morrisons being only about 10 mins by car.
A large car boot sale on Sundays (bargains to be had!) and the wildlife park, both next door, caused no problems at all, in fact the sound of lions roaring in the morning made it interesting.
We even had a benefit of a free air display over 2 days while we were there, including the Red Arrows.
The site could though do with a sports field for children to play with balls etc and the dog walk could do with being a little larger, although as I say the beach is easily walkable.
All in all and excellent site that we would certainly visit again.
Only one down side for me being the site managers, they were very strict (which isn't a bad thing and partly the reason why we joined the club) but to the point of being over strict.
I don't think they liked children too much and also we went with friends and had requested pitches next to each other, which when booking was confirmed, only to be refused at the site, and we were not alone for some reason, so if your planning to go with friends, bear that in mind.
Campsite very clean, could hear Africa Alive but it didn't bother us. Shop didn't stock hardly anything which was a shame as Kessingland had very few shops. Showers/toilets clean and hot water all the time - maybe water too hot for children! toilets & showers closed at 10.30am-12 noon for cleaning which was a pain, maybe better if they closed at 12 noon instead when most people seem to be out and about by then. Nice campsite but I wouldn't hurry to go back.
A lovely site with very friendly staff. Showers were the best we had ever experienced. We didn't go to the pub but it was very close and would have done if our schedule had allowed. Having read the reviews we were expecting to hear noise from the 'Africa Alive' zoo next door yet we heard nothing for the whole 4 nights. We visited the zoo and were really impressed - we would recommend going along to the talks they gave about the animals.
We don't have children but those on the site at the time seemed very happy with the space they had to play.
Our only criticism would be the lack of signage outside the camp site - we didn't realise you actually had to enter the Africa Alive site to get to the camp site and missed the turning! Thank you - we would definitely use this site again.
It was a lovely site. We could sit and see the sea. The toilet block was spotless and the showers were fantastic. The door broke on the mens shower block when we were there, but you could walk over the other side of the site and use their block.
As soon as the warden knew the lock was broken he did every thing he could to mend it, I must admit we sat in the van and watched him climbing in and out of the window with tools. He deserves a medal for trying.
He could not mend it but left door open all day until a locksmith came out and mended it. Site was spotless, cannot wait to go back. We left our dog in kennels but everyone seemed to have their dog with them and walked them on the beach.
