What a fab location! Right on edge of delightful, picturesque village in the midst of some wonderful countryside. Village has everything we needed - couple of great pubs (super food in the Dragon), post office, couple of coffee shops and licenced grocers shop.
The site smashing - not crowded when we went - but having spoken to the owner would avoid in high season as she admits that it becomes very busy and it seems would be reluctant to turn anyone away. Site shop handy, loos and showers wouldn't win any prizes, but they were clean and functional. Overall facilities good and location excellent. Will be visiting again - early spring before the crowds!
We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend, it was very busy, but we had no problems waiting for the loo or shower. Margaret and all the staff were very helpful, and the site was kept very clean and tidy.
The site is split into 3 areas (or it was over the bank holiday), if we use the site again, and we probably will as the location is stunning, we will be asking to go on the middle field - so not as far to walk to loo or to wash up!
Dent is lovely, proper cobbled streets and friendly locals. Food in Sun Inn a bit disappointing though.
Only down point for me was lack of a play area on site, there is one near by but I wouldn't let the children go off on their own as it was across a road which, being bank holiday, was very busy.
Farm shop well stocked and if you forget anything at all, Margaret can rustle up whatever you have forgotten!
All in all for a first camping trip with an 8 week old baby, it was great!
The location is stunning, with some views across open fields and woodland. What lets this site down is the amount of tents and caravans they manage to squeeze into the fields, and the lack of toilet/ shower facilities. The main field, which accomodates the majority of the campers has one toilet block , which do not have showers. The showers are in the section near to the main farm house, and only consist of a small number which are 20p for 3 minutes to use. The village of Dent is very pretty, with the two pubs being welcoming although the food in the George and Dragon was nothing special.Not an ideal place to take the kids either as the locals think its okay to swear loudly and repeatedly. The site was mainly used by families, but the kids have very little room to play as all available grass is used for tents/ caravans.
Have been coming to this site a couple of times a year. The site owners are nothing but helpful and go out of there way to do things The site is one of the most scenic I've ever pitched. Never had a problem with waiting for a shower but if you do leave it late morning they tend only to be luke warm The pitches are flat but can get some hilly areas if on overflow The village itself is beautiful thats why keep coming
I hosted a UKCS meet at this site in March, I found the site to be fairly easy to find and as has been said there a a couple of narrow bridges that look tricky but as I was in a car with a tent it didnt have much impact on me. Although I did see a low loader navigate them as I had to folow it !
Once on the site I was advised where we were pitching, and set up my unit.
The site itself is nice and flat and has in the top half of the site good facilities, its nice to see wash rooms with a toilet and basin in the same room so you can have a proper wash and not have to struggle in the main loos.
Margaret,The owner, was very helpful with any requests to her that I made, although was bombarded by a few of the group as the power was tripped by one of them on the Friday night, she was unable to rectify this this caused some problems.
This again happened on the Sat and the electrician came out and looked at the problem and this was due to the side of the site we were on being overcrowded, and people wanting to use all their appliances from home in their Tent! Before it was repaired Margaret did bring out hot water and water bottles for the children. Although I do agree that on the Friday an emergency sparks should have been called.
The village itself is very beautiful and as I only went into one of the pubs( the Sun Inn, great food) I couldnt comment on the others. Its a very lovely area and I would be happy to go back there in warmer times and not in -0 weather.
The only big draw back for me is that the road opens out on the main high street of dent.

The first thing that meets you on arrival is the pond, fed by a stream and usually full of children paddling and playing on tyre rafts. The playground has zip wires, climbing frames, tyre rope-swings and adventure courses.
Grass pitches (some with EHU) for tents, motorhomes, VW-sized campervans (no caravans). Refurbished toilets, showers and laundry. Peace is the watchword on the campsite - catering mainly for families and couples with silence after 10.30pm. Don't forget your marshmallows - campfires are allowed in selected areas. Nearby shop and pub. And there's an added extra: the site sits along the route of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway line, with it's own station. Choo Choo! Find out more here
This was my third visit to the site and this time took my sister and both dogs along with my 7 year old.
Lovely location and Margaret could not be more helpful even though it was extremely busy due to it being easter weekend.
Nice level pitch but found it a bit overcrowded especially with a relentless loud snorer in the next tent so earplugs are a must!
Considering how busy it was, the toilets were kept reasonably clean. Could do with more loos and showers would be handy on the bottom field.
My only real gripe was the amount of tents packed in and the health and safety issue of fire pits - got a couple of scorch marks on my brand new tent from the people behind burning goodness knows what.
Lots of great walks in the area and the scenery couldn't be more beautiful. Dent is fantastic with a couple of good pubs but again absolutely packed and I think the drink prices were hiked up over the weekend.
We will definitely keep returning but I think I may avoid bank holidays in future.
We booked here 4 weeks prior to Easter as everywhere else was booked solid.
After leaving M6 and passing by Sedbergh the road to Dent needs caution and there are 3 bridges to cross, one of them is quite narrow, a wider van would struggle but we were ok in our 2 berth.
Upon arrival we were shown to a pitch with electric.
The site got very busy and tents seemed to be packed in.
We were kept awake until 2 in the morning by some very noisy campers, after a word with Margaret she soon sorted it, there was no noise the next night. This lady was constantly riding her quad-bike around the site to help people.
I agree that there are'nt enough facilities, especially for campers.
Food was disappointing in the George & Dragon,.
Dent village is lovely and so was the scenery, and it was lambing time. I would visit this site again but not on a bank holiday as it was VERY busy.
Just spent the Easter weekend here with mixed views.
First thoughts of the host (Margaret) was that she was very brusque and offhand, that view soon changed and found this very hardworking woman does a cracking job and couldn't be more helpful.
The site while situated in a lovely area was marred as pointed out by many here for the lack of Toilet/Shower facilities.
The bottom field is crying out for just such things especially over peak periods when there were so many people there vying for pole position.
Just spent the Easter Bank holiday weekend in Dent at this site. Reading the recent reviews, if you want to stay warm while camping put extra clothes on or buy a decent sleeping bag. Its not the owners responsibility to keep your kids or you warm in a tent or van when it drops to freezing. As for electric hook ups, why cant you holiday without your TV in your van or your electric blanket. Remember your carbon footprint. This site is a farm site and if you have to queue for a shower so what, slow down . You're on holiday !
We love this site and village. Margaret helps every one she can and probably some more than she should. Would recommend this site to anyone.
Sorry but I find myself unable to agree with the reviews.
We found the site overcrowded and the fact that EHU cables trail at full length outside other units, crossing the site is an accident waiting to happen.
I don't want to be personal but can't agree with the comments about the lady owner either.
I waited in the tiny shop for 20 minutes, ringing the bell etc waiting to be served but no-one came so I walked into the village.
Electric tripped off and was off overnight - and yes I know people can be greedy and foolish with the amount of appliances - but perhaps if the site was not so overcrowded the problems would not have happened. It is the site owners responsibility, I'm afraid to sort these things immediately and if that means paying for an emergency electrician, then it has to be done.
It is totally unacceptable for people - including children to be left shivering in tents all freezing (about -4) night with no form of heating!
I shall certainly not recommend this site to other- despite the lovely setting and magnificent views.

Not sure where to start, so I'll begin with the park itself. Like said in all the other reviews, this place desperately needs more toilets in the bottom field, every time I went to the toilet I had to queue. They could be doing with putting some showers in as well. I tried to buy some tent pegs for my awning from the on site shop in the top field, couldn't believe it when the lady charged me 20 pence each for the only 3 that were left and lent me a few more reminding me I had to bring them back when I was finished with them. Thankfully a very kind camper let us borrow a load of hers, so thank you very much if you read this. Anyway I'll tell you some positives now, the village is beautiful. We went on a walk called Flintergills point, it took about 3 miles altogether, just right for our 5 year old. It was really nice. When you get to the top, go through the little gate at the top and you'll see a little stream we sat by there and my sons went in for a paddle it was so peaceful. Don't think we should have been in there, but we weren't doing anyone any harm. I would go back to this site if they provided more facilities in the bottom field. A play area would be perfect, so go on Margaret give the kids a treat.
Eight of us have just spent Easter weekend at this site. Margaret the owner was great, she had a lot of tents and caravans to deal with, and managed this on her own, The site is set in beautiful surroundings, and is a good reasonably level family site. The only draw back is only 2 ladies loos on lower field! The farm shop sells almost everything, and the cafe/bar on the main road in front of the site is lovely - food is great. Dent has 2 good pubs, but for us the scenery and walking makes the place. Try this site - dont be put off by any negatives - it is well worth a visit. And like Arnie says - "we`ll be back!"
On arriving in Dent we thought what a brilliant choice of site we had made. Dent itself is fantastic but we felt let down by the camp-site itself.
Initially we thought the owners were friendly and welcoming but realised that when we had a complaint to make this was very different.
I had originally booked for 3 nights over Easter bank holiday but cut this short due to lack of space. The site was absolutely packed it looked like a cross between a car park and a caravan storage facility as there was no space between tents and caravans. On the start of my 3rd day on this site I felt it necessary to advise the owner how disappointed I was with lack of space and privacy. Space was so limited I could not even sit outside my tent as another tent was parked right next to mine. (In fact it was so close to me I slept closer to my neighbours husband than my own!)
I raised my concerns with the lady owner who was not interested although she did say she would inspect. On arrival she did say they were a bit close together but 'what did I expect at bank holiday?' I appreciate it was bank holiday but these are the worst conditions I have ever come across because I couldn't even cook outside for fear of burning my tent and next doors! I asked for a refund for my 3rd night but was told 'No' flatly.
Other facilities on this site were not up to scratch either. Showers were few and far between and could only cater for a 10th of the visitors present so there were a lot of smelly people as most could not be bothered to queue. Toliet situation was not much better.
All in all a disappointing weekend but when the owner was told this she said she had her 'loyal army of followers' so didn't care what I thought.
There are nicer sites in Dent which are better value and more spacious. This site only seems interested in MONEY MONEY MONEY. I'm sure a few more complaints will follow after this weekend as we were not the only ones who were not impressed.
My husband and I booked last minute to stay in Dent and were not to be disappointed!
We arrived on a Saturday lunchtime and although the lower site was very busy with campers, Margaret, the site owner found a lovely spot on the higher field near to the office and farm.
The farm shop sells all sorts of things such as milk, meat, cakes etc.
The village of Dent is wonderful and only a 2 minute walk along the cobbles from the site.
The village has two excellent pubs (one is the hotel with its own brewery!) and a most pretty church.
We only stayed two nights before heading off to the Lakes. However, after 3 nights in that area we found ourselves back in Dent! The site is lovely and the scenery is spectacular!
The site is split over two fields, divided by the main road through Dent. Though this is not a problem , one gripe I did have is that there is only showers in the top field. In the lower field the toilet block had washing facilities. The showers are excellent though, with plenty of room and clean. They cost 20p of which you will need two. The field is sloping , but get there early and you will be able to get one of the flatter pitches around the outside. For those of you with kids, there is a huge area in the centre for them to play in, though I expect it does get a lot fuller in high season. The farm sells everything from milk and butter to eggs and bread and marmalade. All in all, it is a good site, I will definitely be going back there , as it has the added extra of being beside a great village . At £14:50 per night , it is one of the costlier sites, but well worth atry
