I guess it’s all been said by previous reviewers, but this is an excellent site, very well kept, with extremely friendly helpful owners.
We were after a ‘Serviced Pitch’ when we booked, but there were none available, However, I asked that if one became available, I’d be keen to upgrade. Upon arrival, on the Friday, we were told they had a Serviced Pitch available from Saturday, and if we wanted this, they would even move our ‘van for us. What service! We decided to opt for the Standard Pitch, which had great views over the site and the hills behind. This was a huge Pitch (No. 17) and very private.
We were struck by the varied mix of ‘Campers’ on site, from the smallest Tent to some larger Motorhomes and every possible unit in between. This made for a great atmosphere too.
The facilities on site are second to none and open 24 hours a day, unlike most sites which close the facilities block for an hour or two for cleaning.
Trethem Mill may not suit everybody, especially families with Children who need constant entertainment, since there’s no Club, Bar, Swimming Pool etc, but for us (and many others) this is the attraction.
For Dog owners, the Dog Walk is very impressive, and even thought we don’t currently have a Dog, we enjoyed the Dog walk, which doubles as a Nature Trail.
The area around Trethem Mill on the Roseland Peninsula is a lovely area of Cornwall with so many great Beaches, Gardens and Walks. We had a great Lunch at The Pandora Inn at Restronguet Creek, Mylor Bridge; more lunch at The Tea Bar at Smugglers Cottage, Tolverne and a visit to The Hidden Hut on Porthcurnick Beach for Coffee. If you enjoy walking aroung great Gardens, you're spoilt for choice, with Trelissick (NT), Glendurgan (NT) and Trewithen all close by.
Lovely site clean and reasonably quiet, will definitely go back here, lovely walk to st Mawes then across to falmouth on the ferry, lovely showers and clean !
The grounds were clean and all laid out, with tourers and tents, a shop for emergencies and ice cream were available, local shop at st mawes or larger at truro a short drive away.
Walks along the river with lovely scenery, take your wellies just in case !
Have just spent a week at Trethem Mill, and as other reviewers have said, the place is so spotlessly clean, never seen a caravan site like it before.
Whenever you used either of the showering blocks, there was never a speck of dirt to be seen. Same applied to the whole park. As soon as someone left, they were round mowing the lawns, raking the gravel on the Hard Standing pitches, etc, etc.
Also the room containing the 'What to do' brochures, had maps of everywhere, places to eat/drink, everything you could possibly want.
The shop, however, is very small, and only had very basic provisions. Now what I think are the bad points. I think £34 a night is expensive.
Someone tell me why parks think it's OK to charge £4 a night for each child? What do they add to their expense? The only child facility was called an Adventure playground - it was, as the rest of the park, spotless, but there was not much to do in there, just seemed to be a meeting point for the kids.
So £34 a night is a lot, after all, you are only pitching you caravan. OK, we had a service pitch, with water, electric, waste and TV point, but when all said and done, there is nothing there to do. Now I knew that before we went, so I have no-one to blame, we chose to pay that, but regardless, I think it's expensive.
They have WiFi but that is so overpriced, I don't believe anyone in their right mind would pay for it. £3.60 for an hour
Just a word of advice. Take note of what they say about arriving after 1pm. The track to the park is only just wide enough for one car/caravan, if you met another coming the other way, I have no idea what would happen!
And a last word of advise. We were there when the South West had torrential rain and Gale Force winds (70mph). As we had a Hard Standing pitch, I used rock pegs, but they were useless, kept coming out (before the gales).
I asked at reception and was advised to use LONG NORMAL pegs, which they actually sold. This worked, and they remained in place during the gales.
Outside the campsite, you either have a long walk to civilisation (3. 5 miles into St Mawes) or you have to drive everywhere. There are no shops/pubs/anything within 'normal' walking distance. If this is your bag, then you'll love it.
If, like us, you have a couple of kids who think that walking 3. 5 miles is like walking to the end of the earth, then you're wasting your time.
St Mawes is beautiful, and we spent a lot of time there. Buy boat tickets at reception for King Harry ferry over to the 'other' side and also St Mawes ferry to Falmouth - both cheaper at reception that paying on boat(s).
Excellent site, the best we have ever stayed at. All pitches have electric hook up, and are individually hedged. The fees include the hook-up whether you use them or not which makes it a bit expensive if you don't use them. We did so were happy.
The toilets were always beautifully clean, as were the washing up areas, laundry, shop, and information area. These are all indoors, not merely covered. In addition to the 'normal' toilet blocks there are 3 individual unisex shower suites comprising of a shower, wc, and washbasin.
As we are tenters the facilities are very important to us and these could not be faulted.
There is an enclosed play area for children with the usual obstacles to climb on etc and an adjoining field with goalposts and nets. Likewise there is a dog walk, we actually borrowed 2 dogs from some fellow campers and used the dog walk! The site was extremely quiet and we noticed the only negative comments in the guest book seemed to be saying that it was not very child friendly. That suited us a treat!
The site is on the Roseland Peninsula, 3 miles north of St. Mawes, and is a perfect centre to explore the peninsula, either for walking, cycling, or by car. Various ferries can take you off the peninsula to Falmouth, Truro etc. We especially liked St. Mawes Castle, well worth a visit.
We didn't visit any pubs locally but we managed a few cream teas around the area, very good, especially at Milensey Mill. The closest shop (apart from the on site one was a Co-op in St. Mawes.
Overall, for us the site was perfect, we will use it again in the future I am sure.
A fabulous family-run site, which we've recommended to others dozens of times since our stay.
The grounds are kept pristine, and the pitches are very generously-sized, and ours was totally flat. The owners are welcoming and very efficient. The new 'shower suite' block is stunning - they even have heated mirrors that don't steam up! We have no small kids, but the play area looked really good.
The location was perfect for us to use as a base for our first visit to Cornwall. The Roseland Peninsula is stunning and there is an amazing walk from the site to St Mawes, which is gorgeous (we bussed back to the site)
We loved it, as you can tell, and will be back at some stage. In the meantime we'll keep recommending Trethem Mill!
Set within four acres of woodland with spectacular countryside views, this site offers the perfect caravanning and camping experience for all ages. Grass or hardstanding pitches with optional electric. Plenty of space for the kids to play football or fly a kite while you sit back and relax. Facilities include toilets, free hot showers, baby washroom, ice pack freezing, dishwashing area, laundry and free WiFi. Secure dog run for four-legged friends, and campfires are allowed.
Shops, takeaway, pubs, post office, and a dispensing surgery are all in the village of St. Stephen. Just a short journey in the car, you are at some of Cornwall's best treasures, including the Eden Project. Four miles from St. Austell and 12 miles from the wide sweeping beaches of the north coast. This family-friendly site is an excellent base for your Cornish break. Find out more here
Best campsite we have ever visited, immaculate toilets and showers, very well run by friendly owners. This is the second year running we have been to this campsite and can't wait to go back again. The beaches nearby are absolutely beautiful and the walk round the coast is too, its a quiet area and unspoilt. There is a fish and chip van that visits the site and we can highly recommend them. Lots to do and places to visit via the King Harry Ferry or in the other direction of Mevagissey. There is a small shop on site, but the supermarket in St Mawes is not very big, best to go to Truro for a larger shop.
Great place, visited here under canvas 1998 when it was less developed as a site fore caravans. They have worked hard and the quality and attention to detail in all areas is top drawer. Very relaxed place, clean and well maintained everywhere. Location is great too, for high season in Cornwall it was very quiet compared to the more crowded holiday areas.
Shop had enough at sensible prices, toilets clean, washing up and laundry facilities excellent, water and waste excellent, info room excellent
Just returned from a lovely holiday at Trethem Mill. Extremely well run site by a family of three generations. Showers and toilets immaculate, showers large with flip up stool and lots of hooks.
All pitches very large, some hardstanding, some fully serviced and some grass for tents. Nice little herb garden where you can help yourself to fresh herbs, which we took advantage of.
There is a nice play area with lots of things to climb and a football pitch. Good for dogs with a proper dog walk too. Very peaceful and quiet, so not suitable for anyone who wants a lively time as could hear a pin drop in the evening, which was lovely!
St Mawes is a lovely little village with boats and ferry service to Truro and Falmouth. King Harry ferry is the car ferry service to Truro which we used a few times.
I would like to return mainly because the facilities were the cleanest I have found!
My wife and I spent 5 fantastic days on this site, everything about it was 5 star. As others have mentioned it is a bit scary approaching up a steep narrow lane.
Just a couple of things that you might need are, an extension for the water hook up and a cable booster for the TV hook up, but that might also depend on what pitch number you are given (we were on no 86 ).
The owners are very friendly and also very helpful especially if you don't have the above mentioned extensions!
There is a good butchers in Portcatho for your bbq meat, that was recommended by the owner of the site.
Anyway we could not find anything negative about the place, it was very quiet and peaceful, all the pitches were well cared for and manicured, showers and toilet block were spotless and they had piped music which is a nice touch.
There is a fantastic dog walk with a nature trail and information on various wildlife that you might see around the site.
Perfect location for walking and cycling and also if you want to visit The Eden project and The lost gardens of heligan.
They have won lots of awards and they are thoroughly deserved.
