Just returned from a week at Nodes Point which I booked after reading the review by Ratty. We didn't take our own tent this time as they were offering an amazing last minute deal in a ready erected 6 berth tent, complete with free ferry crossing for £79 per week (for up to six people)! This is a lovely site and the new toilet block is now open and is superb. There are plenty of showers, although those in the new block are of the push button variety, and even a bathroom for those preferring a bath. Even the Elsan point was in a tiled room with a washbasin and there were separate Disabled and Parent and Toddler bathrooms and washing up facilities. All were operated by keypad, ensuring that they were exclusive to those camping on the site. The touring area has been completely revamped and will be even better when the vast number of new trees and shrubs have matured a little. The restaurant was very good value and the food was excellent. Prices ranged from around £5.00 for burger, chips and salad to £10 for Sirloin steak and there was a children's menu. We found all the staff extremely helpful and friendly and felt that they really cared that we had a good holiday. We shall definitely be returning sometime next year!
Just got back from this site and had a really great time. There were 2 adults & 3 kids and it was our first time camping but we couldn't have picked a better place to start. our tent was pitched 10 yards away from the fantastic beach overlooking st helens bay which our kids loved. The 'baywatch on the beach' bar was 2 minutes walk away and althuogh we didn't eat there the food looked and smelled lovely. We did however eat in the on site 'harbour bar' which was very very poor. A good place to eat was the 'wishing well' pub, 5 minutes drive away, the food was excellent and they had a play area for the kids. Back on the site and the indoor pool was good and the evening entertainment was ok. On a down side, the toilet & shower blocks never seemed to be cleaned very often though they were building a new one which looks fantastic, I just hope these are kept in better condition. We all had a fantastic time and will be going again next year
The view over St Helens beach is amazing, and the beach itself is ideal for all types of beach goers- sandy in places, rocky with pools and crabs in others. It's literally 20 seconds from site to beach.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, they remembered the name of my son with some special needs and he was fully included in everything at the kids club.
The pitches are well cared for; there are a few types, there is a field which you just find a pitch and plant your tent and also marked tents with EHU. They are also building further marked pitches I was told.
The washing up facillities are adequate, no hot water a few times. The showers also adequate- flooded a couple of times, Dh found the mens very hot but the Ladies facillities were OK. Some facillities were portacabin based, so a bit grubby just before cleaning time in the evening (awkward if you have a little one to put to bed early)
Quiet time is 11 - 8 which suited us a treat and was onserved by most campers- not so the static based ones unfortunately, often they were wandering through the pitches at 2 am being noisy.
There was building work on site, and that became rapidly annoying with the early morning noise, and also you felt a bit exposed walking to the showers in your jim jams, in a way you wouldn't normally on a site. This finishes 12th August apparently, then I am sure the new showers will be appreciated.
The club house was tatty, for want of a better word. OH noticed some safety chains mising on light effects, the tiles were hanging from the ceiling in places and it seriously needs a spruce up.
The on site cafe- well, luke warm chips with frozen cheese anyone? No? Avoid! The BayWatch on the Beach cafe looks over priced but if you go in the evening (book first- gets popular) the food is exquisite, and we loved it. Good nutritious junior options too.Robins Hill, Needles Park, Steam railway worth a visit. Shop good with more than usual.
Playground excellent. Indoor pool nice, but lifeguard would do anything to avoid being asked for help and the ateps were dangerously cracked, though they were moved when OH demanded it. Busy at times, and lifegusrds too busy chatting to watch kids very well.
Our fourth trip to Park resorts, not sure if we'll go again, lovely place but just badly neglected.
We stayed here in two units, one tent and one VW Campervan. They allowed us to pitch together on the camping field as the VW was small enough to get away with it!
The views from the camping field are stunning, overlooking Bembridge beach and St Helens, lovely.
On arrival, we checked in with a very friendly lady, who explained all about the site, where things were, the swimming pool, club house etc. and took our money. I almost fell over when she only asked for £5 per unit per night, well, the showers alone was worth the £5 we each spent!
Being a Park Resorts site, this was full of static caravans as you drove around, but they certainly did not forget about the tourers or the tenters at all. The touring section was nicely tiered , I imagine they have spend loads getting it looking this good. The pitches on the touring section, were very flat, had EHU, plenty of fresh water and chemical disposal points around.
The toilets and showers were very clean and very maintained, however in the camping field, you are not able to adjust the temperature or move the shower head, and they were very hot, too hot for small children. None the less, they had a solid door, ensuring your clothes did not get wet, and overall very clean and happy with them. Yes some people from the beach may come in and use the showers, but for you your early morning shower, this would not affect you. A new block was being built when we were here, between the camping and touring fields.
We did not venture into the swimming pool or on-site cafe, so cannot comment on them. We did however spend a Thursday night in the clubhouse, whilst Stevie was on, a kids entertainer, although we had no children with us this time, it was good, wholesome, family fun, and the kids that were there seemed to love it. The clubhouse was large and stocked a large variety of drinks.
You can walk directly onto the beach from the site and you can then walk for miles along the beach. There is a cafe called Baywatch Diner, on the beach, and this is very expensive for what it is, but they did seem to sell some nice food, seafood etc. however I opted for an All Day Breakfast, and it came out overcooked, and solid, the sausages looked as if they had been re-heated about eight times. The fresh food did look nice as it was being taken to the tables though.
Bembridge is a short drive or half hour walk from the site, with basic shops, a chandlery, a couple of pubs etc. however for a bigger shop, you have a large Tesco about 10 minutes in the car toward Ryde, along with MacDonalds and others.
This site has easy access to Fishbourne and Cowes, so getting to it from the ferries is no problem and although it is located on the far West of the Island, travelling to see the sites on the IOW is not too much of a chore with Shanklin about 20 minutes away by car.
I would come back to this site, as I found it very reasonable and ideal for our requirements.
