We had a short visit to this very good site. The staff were very helpful and the shop had all the basics. Toilet block was very good and clean. There was an on site bar and restaurant.
The bar closes quite early but the nearest pub is only a few minutes walk away on a footpath (take a torch!).
We had a cooked breakfast in the restaurant, which was reasonably priced although it was heavy on the grease! overall, a very good stay and we would definitely come back.
We arrived here for 8 days at the same time as the torrential rain that preceded the floods and land slips. Pegging out the awning was a challenge in horizontal rain and it was nearly dark at 5. 00pm the weather was so bad.
Thank goodness we were on hard standing and near the excellent new facilities block which was clean and warm with hot showers (But with the infernal push buttons). The older facilities block looks tired compared to the new.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Shop well stocked with essentials and the little things you forget or break. Didn't use the restaurant as the menu looked expensive.
The Childrens playground looked good but pretty much washed out for our stay.
We chose this site as we had not been to Dorset before and it was fairly central allowing us to explore the jurassic coast to the west and lulworth, Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, Swanage and Poole to the East. With the exception of Swanage the beaches were'nt the sand castle quality sand you find in Cornwall, but the weather cut beach days to 1.
The site highlight for us seeing a barn owl at dusk hunting over the dog walk field. Brown sea Island in Poole harbour is a good day out. If I was in this area again I would stay at this site, there is easy access from Weymouth and if you have a large unit this is the way to come.
Just arrived back from a fantastic holiday at Bagwell Farm.
The pitch was quite spacious for our Kalahari 10 berth. My only moan was that the pitch had a slight slope. There were other pitches that were level but at the time we arrived Dorset had only just dried up after quite a heavy rainfall and this was the best pitch at the time.
There are 2 shower blocks on this site and they were kept spotless. There was ample shower units in these shower blocks and we never had to queue for a shower. Although we had no children with us this time, there was a well kept children's play area.
There is a barn on site that serves breakfasts and evening meals. The breakfasts were to die for and really good value for money.
The site itself was very quiet and relaxing. I would return to this site if we visited Dorset again.
Had a great time the campsite is very clean and well looked after, all toilet, shower blocks are great warm and light and clean.
the campsite is very quiet and child friendly well equipped play park. The on site shop very well stocked with every day needs including camping and caravan bits. The on site bar/restaurant was ok a bit over priced for evening meals but breakfast was value for money.
Just returned from another stay at Bagwell Farm, and again had a lovely time. We don't usually like to return to the same site so soon (if at all!) but have decided to make this our regular place to stay, when visiting relatives in the area.
The owners are very friendly and helpful. The washing facilities are immaculate (with plenty of hot water)-always important to me. Also the food in the Red Barn is handy, should you fancy a night/morning off from the cooking. There is a small children's play ground that my boys used, and plenty of room for kicking a ball around and not getting in everyone's way.
We stayed over the Jubilee weekend, and although the site was packed, everyone seemed to respect the site rules and kept the noise down late at night.
This really is a beautiful part of the country, and I would highly recommend this site.
Loved Bagwell Farm. We stayed over the jubilee weekend and a few extra days. Weather wasn't the best but the site stayed clean tidy and mud free.
Great site. Friendly site staff. Showers and facilities very clean and no queing. Tried the on site bar, sensible prices so worth a visit to the barn for a beer.
Easy access to many of the local towns et. We visited weymouth, bridport, lyme regis, axminster and enjoyed every minute.
This was our first visit to bagwell farm and stayed for 4 nights over the jubilee weekend. We had a very nice large pitch near the kids play area and near the newer looking shower block and shop.
We used the shop for just a few things and they seemed to be plenty of stuff in there, like most camp shops they are a little dearer than a supermarket the staff seemed friendly and help full,
The shower block near us was fine seemed clean all the time there, did not go in the other two blocks.
Found the site good and clean, but was disappointed with the bar got in there on the 1st night after setting up about 9:20 pm to find food stopped at 9;00 including take away food and then at 9:45 they called last orders at the bar went back in there on 1 other night about 7:30ish all the tables were full and seemed to be a lot waiting so just stayed for 1 drink and left. Didn't think the bar staff seemed very friendly and the lady serving the food just seemed to shout out the order then plonk it on the table, but the food did look good.
There a nice but very long walk down towards the beach and some great views from the site had a walk round the car boot.
Think this is a nice site and would go back, but for the size of the site they need to upgrade with a bigger bar and food area.
This is a really great site. From the first contact the staff were helpful and friendly. I thought that a £40 deposit was reasonable. The shop has most things that you could want, they even replaced my little boys boomerang when it broke.
There are many toilet blocks to choose from and they are clean. The main block was lovely and warm and spotless. The addition of free hairdriers was really appreciated.
Jack loved the play area and the farm animals so he had plenty to do on site.
We had some really lovely walks down by the Fleet and across the countryside. There are many well marked walks.
This is a great base for exploring Dorset and there is loads to do.
We are a family of four (2 adults, 1 x 6 year old, 1 x 3 year old) in a tent, camped for a 5 night break over the Easter holidays. Our friends and their family also stayed on site in caravans alongside us.
The weather wasn't great, we had some sunshine mixed in with rain storms, hail and strong wind. The weather didn't stop us from having a fantastic break though!
We were pitched right beside the park which was an ideal spot as we could see our children playing from our tent. The pitch was on a hill but was flat and the grass was well kept. The site is on a slope but the pitches are all banked so they all seem to be flat. The pitches all seem to be a good size - plenty of room for the tent, space to sit outside and a car. We had a hook up with our tent - which came in useful to run a heater through the cold nights.
The park is fantastic with plenty of play equipment including a new pirate ship style slide/ climbing area, sandpit, children's slide, swings, climbing equipment and seesaw. Our children were amused for hours in there, and were there from early in the morning until the sun went down. The park is very safe and has plenty of space for the children to run around, ride bikes or play ball games.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us tips of places to visit - there was a handy information room with lots of leaflets. They gave us a booklet when we arrived which contained useful information about the site and local area. The shop was well stocked with food, drinks, alcohol, toys and lots of camping gear. They also rented and re-charged camping freezer blocks. The shop was open from early until late so was very handy!
There were two washrooms - we were pitched nearer to the new block. The old block was well equipped and clean but was obviously much more dated than the new flashy one.
The old block had a laundry room which came in useful after a few days of rain to tumble dry to clothes!
The new washblock had great facilities and was very clean. The showers were warm with plenty of space. The best bit were the bathrooms though! They were toasty warm and it cost £1 for a full bath which was perfect for the kids. It warmed us all right up before bed on a cold night!
The bar/grill was open every evening over Easter and for breakfast over the weekend. We didn't taste the food but my husband was pleased with his beer. There was an outside area with benches and some push along toys for small kids but the animals kept all of the children amused. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed feeding grass to the goats and donkeys. We could even hear the donkeys from our tent at times they were so loud!
There was a pub just along the road from the entrance although we didn't use it but there didn't seem to be much else very nearby. We went for a nice walk from the campsite towards Abbotsbury and found a nice country pub beside an iron forge shop.
It was only a short drive into Weymouth so we spent a few days doing different things there in the rain and sun including a brilliant wet trip to Nothe Fort which we all enjoyed.
Overall we would highly recommend this site - everyone in our large group seemed to have a great time, including those in caravans. We have camped many times before on different sites and this is definitely one of the best ones so far!
Just returned from 5 days at Bagwell Farm. Got to say hugely impressed. Toilet block was immaculate and warm on cold mornings.
Stayed on a super pitch which was a good size, with excellent water, drainage and TV point, well positioned. Most pitches have views of Chesil Beach. Staff were friendly and very helpful, letting you borrow an adapter for the TV if you didn't bring your own.
Shop was well stocked with camping equipment as well as the food essentials and newspapers.
Dog and child friendly, overall would definitely stay again.
A clean, tidy and well kept site with a modern heated facilities block which as we were staying in march was quite welcome!
We opted for the super pitch which was on hardstanding which although quite expensive does make life a little easier during the winter months.
The staff were friendly and helpful. There's a path which leads from the bottom of the site directly down to the coast path and the bus service stops right by the entrance.
It is large campsite so I don't think we would want to stay during the peak season
First time to bagwell farm. It's a very nice site also well kept. We stayed on a super pitch and the price was great.
The toilet and shower block where immaculate. They also have a small play area for the kids. It was also kept in good condition and has just been painted.
It's about a 10-15 min walk to the coast where you can find some sand.
The shop on site has a good selection, and everything we needed.
You are only 10-15 min from abbotsbury swannery and farm good for a half day visit.
Would go back as there is much more to do in the area.
We have just returned from this site having stayed for seven nights. We found our pitch was more than spacious enough for our tent and car we even had a little room to spare as I had taken the precaution of booking an extra large pitch. I also paid extra to have a water point on our pitch, a mistake I would not make again if I decide to return, which we probably will, as there are more then enough taps around, all easily reachable from all pitches and never more than about thirty feet away. All pitches on the lower half of the site appear to have EHU points, with an upper field for none EHU pitches. There are also a pitches with hard standings for motor home and caravans, some of which appear to be fully serviced. We only used the sanitary facilities in the new toilet block, which were kept spotlessly clean, and were heated, making using them more pleasurable. There was always warm water, if you let the shower or tap run for long enough, bearing in mind the site was very quiet whilst we were there.
They also provide a very large field to exercise dogs, though this could do with an extra dog doo bin or two. You can also walk down the foot path to the Fleet, and around the footpath down there which follows the Fleet. There can be some road noise on this site from the B3157, this road runs to Weymouth one way and Bridport in the other direction, which makes it more busy than you would expect, mainly at commuting times.
Although it is a touring park, and is open only for touring caravans, motor homes and tents, it has a lot of touring caravans on there which look as though they have been on the same pitch for a very long time going off the amout of ladders underneath the vans and the large plastic storage boxes by them, I would say some of them are there permanently. So through the summer I can imagine that it will be far more busy at the weekend then during the week.
This site is open all year round, but, The Red Barn IS NOT. We were not told this when we booked. We only found out when we arrived that this facility only opens from Easter to the end of October. The good news is that a short walk down a foot path over an adjoining field brings you to the Victoria Inn, which does food, also if you have a dog which is well behaved the landlord will allow into the pub if it is not too busy.
Overall we found this a pleasant site, well maintained, and it will be going onto our list of possible return to sites, although we do like to try somewhere different, you know how it is.
I don't know why we have never found this site before, it is excellent. The new toilet block has added much to the quality especially in winter.
It is a large well run site which may be a bit less attractive in high summer to those of us who like a quiet life but I am told by other campers that they do not let standards drop.
The staff were friendly and helpful even at 8pm on a very cold winter's evening. The whole site was spotless and the dog walk/recreation area is large and conveniently placed.
There is also direct access to the coastal path and the Fleet where I am told the wildlife and sea birds are fantastic. Due to a snow forecast I did not have time to try these out myself.
Literally just got back off holiday from Bagwell Farm. I stayed there from the 26th September to the 2nd October.
We were adviced this caravan site from the next caravan site up the road (East Fleet Caravan Park). As we have a commercial Van, we find it difficult getting into sites.
Its not because its A commercial van, its because the legal requirements to tow our extremely heavy caravan (Bessacarr), 3 adults, 5 dogs, awning plus the usual nick nacks. Bagwell farm invited us in and welcomed us with open arms!
We had a serviced grassed pitch on top of the hill, next to the dog walking field.
Not sure what the reception for TV is like in the valley but on the top, it was rear perfect reception! Radio reception was good too.
Walks on site for the dogs are brilliant. We found 2 walks. 1 was just an open field, which we used first thing & last thing for the hounds to have a pee but if you walk down through the site, you'll come to a stile which eventually leads to the fleet, where you can either walk East or West.
Moonfleet Manor leading to Weymouth on the left, walks to Abbotbury & beyond to the right. A wide range of bird life, from SkyLarks, Swans, variety of Gulls, Oystercatchers to Phesants & crows. A great walk to let the dogs off the lead. Also around the site there is doggy poo bags boxes, so if you run out of poo bags, there's no excuse not to clean up after yor dog/s!
The staff on site were really friendly, always saying morning or hello, and always busy. Either cleaning the loo's, driving the tractor and watering the flower displays. A good bit of team work.
The shop was ok, not too over priced as you expect. Had the essentuals. If you cant find what your looking for there's a BIG Morrisons not too far with cheaper fuels!
Never used the Grill Bar so cant comment.
Good Park for the kids!
The free Showers were lovely (nearer the shop) Yes you have to press the button every 20 seconds but the temperature was just right. There was 4 showers, 4 washroom cubicles, 4 toilets & 3 sinks in this toilet block. Might be a bit of a struggle in High season, but in low season, it was good. Very clean. And it has a free to use hairdryer which is a bonus.
The down side.
As we have 5 dogs £1 per dog per night was expensive.
Out & about. As we had the best weather, we didn't stay on site all the time. We avoided Weymouth, too commercial for us plus the last time we came, there was loads of roadworks for the Olympics, so totally avoided the area!
So we went towards the West of the site.
We visited Abbortsbury, we parked at the Swannery and walked to the old Abbey on top of the hill. A nice freebie! No parking charge!
We visited Burton Bradstock, beach is very nice, not sandy, a very fine shingle beach, dogs were allowed on the left hand side, parking was £1 an hour or £4 all day. We only stayed an hour. We then popped into West Bay, a nice place but very commercial and the parking charges were way too expensive! £2 an hour!
Over the week we also took 3 separate daytrips to the beach. Lyme Regis is only 40 minutes away, great for an ice cream, sunbathing, fishing and fossil hunting, dogs had a nice run on the left hand side of the beach but beware of the tides! they do come in quick and when its low tide, it can get muddy! Parking was great. £2. 50 for a whole day, walking down from the car park is great but walking back up the hill does get your legs!
The other beach we visited, we visited twice. I Highly recommend Charmouth if you have children! Try and get there when the tide has just started to go out. You will find loads of fossils of ammonites of different sizes, great way of keeping the kids busy & quiet and it teaches kids about Britains past, a great hands on experience with learning.
The dogs had a good run off lead here, they were soon knackered.
Overall a great Dog friendly Holiday
