We chose this campsite as it was halfway between us and family we were meeting with.
On arrival the owner had nothing in his book about our reservation (I booked it, so know I phoned!), however, even though it was bank holiday this wasn't a problem and we were shown some pitches and left to choose which we wanted.
The owner was very friendly and happy to help, also told us to let him know if we had any problems.
The toilets and shower block were obviously recent, and were very clean and spacious, with plenty of HOT water. They also included baby changing room and disabled facilities.
The site is handily close to the M5, and although you can hear the m-way it isn't very loud and didn't stop any of our group sleeping!
Our only moan is that it would be great to have something for the kids to play on, a couple of swings and a climbing frame would be fantastic for time spent on site. Luckily our 2 year old had his cousins to play with so it didn't affect us too much, but would have really wanted them if he was on his own!
We have just returned from 5 days on this lovely campsite. We have a large tent and electric hook up there was only the 2 adults no children so cant comment on the facilities re kids.
The toilet block and shower facilities are excellent, this campsite was only finished last year. There is under-floor heating in the shower block. John the owner was very friendly and told us we could take our pick of pitches. Every pitch has a electric hook up and were more than large enough for our large tent.
There are limited resources shop wise, the nearest being a petrol station just before the camp-site entrance. We were in a car we thought was essential. We also visited Slimbridge Wild Fowl Trust about 20 miles away, and also the Cotswold Falconry Centre some 30 miles away, definitely worth a visit. We tried to find a Chinese restaurant in the surrounding villages but were unsuccessful.
This is my first review of any site on here as I usually just browse but felt it appropriate to sign up and leave a review for this very new site.
We arrived on Friday morning to set our new tent up in preparation for the kids finishing school in the afternoon and the owner of the site had no problem with us arriving so early. We were directed to an area at the back of the site and told to 'pick your own pitch'. We settled on a lovely, well maintained (as all were)pitch near the corner which offered shelter from any inclement weather and also shade from the hot rising sun in the morning.
The pitch size was excellent, we were road testing our recently purchased Coleman Sahara 8 and managed to extend all 8 metres of comfortable across the width of the pitch, the ground itself was very well looked after and very flat. There were lots of electric hook up points all around the site and they actually provide more sockets than there are pitches (handy if you need a second hook up point for any reason) there are also many fresh water points dotted about the site which are all lit by lamposts at night (not too bright ones either)
The toilet block on this site is something to behold, newly built and no corners cut. They are the cleanest toilets/showers I have ever seen on a campsite and were heated to a very comfortable temprature with under-floor heating. They have even gone to the trouble of installing sinks with cubicles in the ladies to allow discreet washing etc. Showers were extremely clean and roomy and the hot water flowed beautifully.
Other facilities are pretty limited, no playground for the kids but lot's of free space for them to play. Site owner is fine with well behaved children, sadly while we were there a large group allowed their kids (and a couple of the adults too) to cross over the two fences into the cow field next door which greatly upset the farmer, needless to say he was not impressed (and I have to agree) Sadly too many people think these days that allowing their kids some freedom while camping involves not giving a monkeys what they are up to.
There is no shop onsite but there is a well stocked shop 5 minutes away by car (approx 15 min walk but is down quite a busy road) (back towards Gloucester in Whitminster) There is also a fish & chip shop and Indian take-away there.
There are also a couple of pubs nearby that serve food most (if not all) days. Very close to Slimbridge & the wildlife centre & canal, again though I would recommend a car if you are visiting as the roads can be quite dangerous to walk along, especially with kids in tow.
Owner had no problem with our well behaved dog.
The only downside I could think of was noise from the M5, wasn't loud enough to disturb sleep but quite clear.
All in all this is a fairly new site that seems to have been built to high standards and seems very well run and rates were very reasonable for a party of 7 (whole weekend for less than one travel inn type room for a couple)
Thanks to all concerned and good luck with the site.
