 Spent a few winter weeks chilling at Thriftwood with my furry and feathered friends on a hardstanding pitch with electric hook-up. Found it very conveniently located for visiting most places in the South East by road, and even London itself by mainline train from Borough Green.
Found the Co-Op at the station in Borough Green, which is about five minutes away, the best place for groceries. There is a nice relaxed atmosphere in the park thanks to the management style of Paul and and his merry team who are all extremely helpful and also maintenance conscious.
The park has a modern electronic entry/exit security barrier and also enjoys excellent G3 mobile reception if this is important to you, although I understand they have WiFi planned for 2008. Remember to take a 20p coin when you shower - the office keeps ample supplies - and I suppose it's good for the planet! I would certainly visit this park again!

Thriftwood is an extremely well run, friendly site. As we camp without electric hook up, we were given the run of the camping field. The field is not organised into specific areas and we chose a shaded spot under the trees. (The field is sloping so an early arrival is recommended)
The other areas of the site are more organised: electric hook up is available for tents, carvans and motorhomes. In the middle of the site there are static caravans, some privately owned and some for rent.
The facilities block includes the showers (mens, ladies, disabled and family),toilets,laundry, freezer and washing up facilities. The ladies toilets (I cannot speak about the men's!) includes a baby's bath too!
The games room is reasonably priced: pool 50p, air hockey 50p and a selection of computer/arcade games. The information centre is brimming with brochures and leaflets for all ages and tastes. The little convenience store seems reasonably priced too. Other facilities include the outdoor heated pool which was free to use, a deposit of £1 per person is required for a wristband.
The whole environment of the site is a relaxed one, a woodland area at the side of the site is great for walks and den making (weather permitting). The manager also has a policy for not cramming everyone in: you don't feel squashed or overlooked at all.
Once again I cannot rate the staff highly enough they really did ensure we had the best weekend in the worst weather!

This is the second time we've been here, and we stayed over the new year. The main reason was, that as the park is open all year, I was told upon booking that the bar would be open at New Year. When I arrived, I was met by Paul, a very friendly and helpful chap, who told me that he was the new warden after the park had new owners. He said that on the handover,it was discovered that the licence for the bar had expired,therefore the bar would be closed. Shop wasn't open either, but West Kingsdown shops are only a couple of miles away and there is a Co-op which stays open most of the time, along with a newsagent, post office, chemist and butcher.
As usual the toilet blocks were warm and clean, still 20p for the showers, which were plentiful with water and piping hot. ( We had 3" of snow during our stay so we were glad of the heat!). Paul was busy putting salt down and helped us level the van upon arrival.
Fab walks in the woods with the dog at the back of the site, in the snow and as usual the site was peaceful and quiet.Mobile phone reception(vodaphone and orange) is excellent at the site too. We will be back again in the summer to try out the full facilities.

Friendly staff, very clean facilities. 20p for shower and hairdyer. Although nearby major roads it did not feel like it, was quiet and countrylike. The small, tent section was on the lower part of the park. Ground on an incline under trees. Bent tent pegs on flint in ground. Glad we brought a hammer. Tried the local pub which is 3-4 mins away. Food was a little pricey but size of helpings were large. Pub served two real ales but nothing special. Thought the beer may have been off. Pub was nothing special. Good location for visiting the Kent countryside.

This was my first time at Thriftwood, we found it very welcoming, with helpful staff. Our first impressions as we arrived at the site were good, nice and secure, an entry barrier to stop unwanted cars etc gaining access to the site (a £10 deposit is required for special key).
All the amenities are good on this site shop, Pool, Club house and kids play room. The clubhouse is nicely decorated and does hot dogs and toasted sarnies in the evening (just right to go with your pint or for the kids).
All of the toilet facilities were clean, although in the Men’s shower block there is only urinals, but there is another block with the full toilet just around the corner. Don't forget your 20p's for the shower (last for about 6to 8 mins, enough time to wash your kids and yourself).
The only down side to the site is the amount of Flint / stones in the ground which caused me a lot of bother when you are trying to peg out a Trailer tent that has 50 pegs to be put in but i managed it with a couple of blisters on my hands from the mallet.
Most of the pitches are situated on a slight downward slope but can be overcome.
All in all we had a nice time, kids enjoyed the pool and the kids playroom giving us time to relax with a pint and a sarnie.

Just spent 3 nights at this site, arriving on the Sunday of a Bank Holiday weekend.
Nice wooden location with good atmosphere. Good safe environment for kids to ride their bikes. Outdoor pool was also nice and suprisingly well used in May! Woods accessable from site for kids to explore.
Friendly staff and good facilities. Heated wash rooms and toilets were very popular with the ladies! However shop was poorly stocked and over priced so don't rely on it.
The other reviews that mention how this site can be hard on your tent pegs are true: be sure to bring along some heavy duty ones that you can hammer through the flint.
There are plenty of statics and seasonal caravan pitches but this didn't spoil the atmosphere. We were in a trailer tent and our size of pitch was just about acceptable considering it was a bank holiday.
The main downside for us was the fact that ball games were not allowed anywhere on the site unless it was a soft plastic ball. With 4 boys between the ages of 3 and 8 in our party, this was a very unpopular rule, which would prevent us from returning. They need to sort out an area for ball games for this to be a truly kid friendy site.

I only live 5 miles from this site & me & the kids love the place. Easy going, clubhouse, pubs nearby, & a sunday boot fair at Whrotham.
During the summer months it's very hard to get the kids out of the pool to eat, at least you can have a bit of peace.
I will go there all year round now.

Our first time at Thriftwood. This site is only approx. 45 minutes from our home, but the camp gave us the feeling of being alot further away from home. The site is just off J2 of the M20.
Friendly staff. Toilets and showers (20p) very clean. Site very clean. Great heated outdoor pool plus its FREE to use. Great site for both familes and those who want peace and quiet as you pitch up within the trees to escape the main fields.
Bad points would have to be the amount of flint etc under the grass, bent a few tent pegs. This is l understand due to some of the land being reclaimed, therefore its only in places.
If you decide to stay at Thriftwood you will need to pay 10.00 refundable deposit for the barrier to gain access on and off the site.
During our stay there was the biggest Boot Sale l have ever seen about 3-4 minute walk from the site.
Tariff was good 17.00pn 2x Adults 2x Kids and EHU
Would we go again.....oh yes, we will be going back next year for weekends as it is so close for us

Arrived friday and welcomed by pleasant staff. Could pitch our tent virtually anywhere we liked which gave us great freedom. One of the first things we noticed was considering how close the site is to the M20 (and lets just say well sign posted) the noise was very minimal. The pleasent sound of squirrels in the trees and the general quite made this a very attractive site.
The site itself was very clean and tidy, the shower blocks were clean and well equiped, as was the toilet block. Good utensil washing facilities and in general a very nice weekend.
Even the onsite clubhouse gave us no noise at all. If you are ever travelling through kent and want an excellent overnight stay or more look in and pay them a visit.
Whats more the location among kents rolling hills and scenery there is so much to do within easy reach. A good base and secluded site.

This is a bit of a tricky one to review. So much is good about this site but, how can I put this? Its the resident caravans which spoil it. Imagine a smaller version of a big seaside static site with the same clientele.
Firstly let me say the attitude and warmth of the welcome from the staff was quite simply the best I have ever received. The facilities were superb, clean and working (although I begrudge 20p for a shower at £12 a night).
The ground was not very kind to regular tent pegs as it was made up of alot of flint. The touring pitches were well spaced and in about 3 different locations, some with electric. Bordered by woodland, this made for a really nice afternoon walk.
The problems came at night time. Friday night was particularly challenging. Up until 1.30 in the morning we had noise from the resident caravans. We had a gang of teenagers running round and in between the tent, which resulted in several episodes of them tripping over the guy ropes with the potential to damage the zips. We had one couple rowing their heads off with much effing and blinding. Basically there was no respect from these people for others or others property. We were also subject to name calling (we are a gay couple) this ran off our backs, but was still unsettling.
It seems to me that the resident holiday makers get a sense of being comfortable, which is fine, but with some this transpires as noise and disrespect. Saturday was slightly better, but we did have loud music well past midnight (again from a resisent caravanner). The ultimate question is "would we return?" I'm sorry to say, no we wouldn't. Overall I give it 5/10.

Absolutely excellant site, we stayed for 2 nights, and really enjoyed it, lovely grassed area for tents, surrounded by trees oh and squirrels! Plenty for the Kids - an open air swimming pool and play area.
Immaculate toilets and shower block, and shop and bar on site.
Definately will return.

this is a gorgeous campsite. it was such a lovely place to visit. loads to do for kids and adults. it has a lovely little area for pitching your tent which is surrounded by trees and the most adorable squrriels. we loved it so much we didn't want to leave

I have stayed at Thriftwood several times over as many years. The present owners have made some changes but it remains an informal and quiet site but with good facilities. The only thing I dislike about it now is they have statics, about a dozen at the moment but will rise to twenty in total. A commercial necessity the owner told me. Many touring pitches are set in semi woodland others are more open some with semi hardstanding. The site slopes slightly but not unduly and it shouldn't be difficult to level an outfit. Can get a bit muddy in bad weather. The site roads are made of clinker - the local council won't let them tarmac them for some reason.
Toilet block is heated and always clean on my visits. Unusual feature is two little buildings in centre of site with coin operated cookers and pinic tables for back packer campers. Other facilities are housed in timber buildings at top of site and include shop, family bar, information room, payphone. There is also an open air swimming pool, heated I believe. The site is popular with foreign tourers especially Dutch who often outnumber the Brits! The owners live on site and the drive up to the house/reception is very pretty with ponds and flowerbeds. Obviously some noise from Brands Hatch when a meeting is on. Good location for visiting many places in the area Hever and Leeds castles being just two that spring to mind. Overall verdict is don't expect neatly mowed grass and units lined up in rows. As I said it's an informal quiet site but with good facilities
