 Well having read so many popular comments about this site we were excited to visit.
When booking we were very explicit about the fact that we were a two family party of which one had a very large tent requiring at least 6.5m x 5.5m pitching space and needing electrical hook up. These requirements were further clarified in a telephone call three days before travel as pitch sizes have flagged up difficulties for us before and we were keen to get our holiday started from the offset without having to waste precious time either tyring to fit on an inadequate pitch area or wait around whilst re-accommodation is sorted.
The telephone call ended with the assurance that they would check the pitch area and would only contact us if there was a problem. This telephone call never happened so off we travelled.
When we saw our pitch it was too small. We returned back to reception to be told that they had not called us back because they are just too busy to return customers telephone calls.
Some time later and based mainly on the initiative of another customer, we were re-allocated space on the overflow field which in many respects worked out a lot better. Firstly the main site offers small pitch sizes and is cluttered and cramped leaving little (if any) room for any personal space or privacy. Secondly these pitches have an obscured view of the beautiful views that can be had. So I would say - definitely head for the overflow field if being up close and personal with your neighbours is not your thing. You get a lot more space and the advantage of interrupted views, in some respects you could even be closer to the main facilities depending on where you pitch. However obtaining water means that you do have to walk as I only spotted one tap on entry to the field.
Once pitched - the extension lead we had been offered so that we could still get our electrical hook up ( this was achieved by plugging lead into lead across 35m of hedge so that we could obtain power from an unused source) turned out to be not quite long enough so I approached one of the female members of the management team who again I found to treat us as an inconvenience rather than a customer. Thankfully the male members of the team were more helpful. Three hours later than planned we finally started our break.
In terms of the site overall, I can see why so many people would be charmed by its exquisite location, reasonable itinerary of entertainment and family friendly atmosphere. However the claims to have a well stocked shop and modern and immaculate washing facilities ( as stated in their ad in the AA guide 2006) are exaggerated. The shop stocks basics and the washing areas are in need of some TLC. Two of the gents toilet's didn't flush well, laminate and some tiles were cracked and chipped, the area is dark inside and toothpaste, hair and shampoo remained on tiles and doors for the duration of our stay. The basics were cleaned but these facilities certainly don't live up to the "immaculate" we have experienced on other sites. Also queining for them became a feature of our stay.
We met some lovely people here and had an OK time, however the lack of customer service and attention to detail does let it down.

Bucklegrove, What a friendly bunch! The owners were helpful, approachable and generally kind. The site amenities were great, a main field for camping and tourers, another field further up into woodland(didn't actually see it) and an overflow(tents only) Showers and loos were clean, washing-up facilities and laundry facilities good. We were pitched a little close to the bar and pool for our liking(bad luck and could be avoided on a second visit with request!) as we have young busy children from 7am, by 9pm they just want to sleep. My youngest (nearly 4) said "Please can you just ask those children outside to be quiet cos I really wanna go to sleep now!" So if you've got young ones, ask to be placed far away from bar or even in the overflow which is a big field away from the tourers, but as close to the showers, loos as we were. Didn't go to the bar and use entertainment as young kids just wouldn't stay awake long enough! However Bingo, Horse Racing, musicians galore and by the sounds of things everyone had a good time! Would definitely go back although being close to the action( bar, pool and park) is not as good as we thought it may be. Tents don't shut out the noise as well as caravans. The on-site shop was limited and ecclectic, no wine, and only cans of lager and beer (1type of each) very little of anything else (budgens is 10 mins down the road!) Also no cashpoint or cashback (you can pay by card though!) Good overall experience would definitely consider returning.

A pleasant site although very muddy when we arrived. Not really ideal for tents as the field we were in was very sloping and we ended up with all of the kids footballs in our tent. Nice club house with very friendly staff but watch the adding up as rounds tended to be different price every time. Small swimming pool but the owners really tried to keep everyone entertained with quizzes, karaoke and swimming galas, very well kept and great for touring |Cheddar and surrounding areas. We actually decided to stay an extra 2 days

This was the first time my children and I have been camping and we found an excellent family run site in Bucklegrove. The campsite and facilities are clean the pitches are flat and we had plenty of room. The clubhouse, play area and swimming pool are excellent and the food was good.
The site is fairly central to Cheddar Caves & gorge and Wookey hole. There are fresh fruit stalls near by which was fairly priced. In Cheddar itself there is an excellent Chinese take away and Chip shop and can honestly say both are worth a visit.
To round up the kids loved the play area and the swimming pool and we all enjoyed our first camping trip. We will be going back there again.

We thought this was a lovely site. The facilities were very clean. The showers were free and the hairdryer points cost 20p for about half an hour use. The site is well laid out with lovely views of the countryside.
Cheddar is nearby with shops and pubs for food. This was only our second time camping but we WILL be back.

We visited Bucklegrove 10 years ago and thought it would be nice to go back with the kids.
This site has excellant facilities with a large toilet block with lovely hot free showers, always clean, 20 pence for hair dryer and electric socket for whatever(straighteners?). Also lots of sinks for dishwashing and an actual bathroom with bath!
The laundry has everything you need including ironing board and iron and the on site shop seemed to be open all the time selling all the basics and more!
Swimming pool is great especially the small pool for my younger one(3yrs) and I didn't mind the changing rooms but be warned they are open changing no cubicles and the showers in there were a dribble of cold water. First hour of the morning is for adults only then kids can go in from 11am. Kids play area was really nice with a fort, swings, slide and small wooden assault course thing. We were given the times the kids are allowed to play in the park which was 9am -9pm, lots of other rules too about hard ball games and also not riding bikes outside of these times too, which I suppose is fair enough to keep everyone happy.
We didn't really use the bar and felt the food was overpriced compared to prices in Cheddar especially for the limited choice.
Our weekend was great here except that the owners allowed a family to pitch up at 10.30pm right next to us which was ok until they started blowing up their beds at 11.15 but I guess we were just unlucky.

I visited Bucklegrove for the weekend. I found that the grounds were really well maintained, and everywhere was clean and tidy. There was a lovely play area for the children, a small swimming pool, and the toilets and showers were lovely. The food was good in the bar as well. Can't comment on the washing up area as I have just realised I never went there!
My only criticism would be the size of the pitches. We have a Vario 9 and were camping with friends so were using both pods. There wasn't enough room on the original pitch we were put on and we were in a very squashed corner of the site. All I would have been able to see when sitting outside the tent was other people's cars. There was very little room outside the tent for the children to play and it would have been impossible to have the row while putting the tent up without the whole field hearing!
However, the manageress was extremely helpful and moved us to a different pitch which was much better and she didn't book anyone next to us so we had room.
Overall I thought this was a very good site, and one I would return to, but only if I was able to stay on or near the same pitch. If you like the more organised sites with numbered/marked out pitches then this is for you, but if you like the pitch where you like type it isn't.

For tent dwellers, I'd recommend you ask for the overflow field, by far the best place on this site. Apart from that, your opinion of this place would depend on what you like. We arrived in half-term and every night there was a disco in the bar with inescapable loud thumping music wherever you were - fine if you like that sort of thing, as obviously did all the sub-teenage girls trying out their glammest fashions and dancing - it went on till 11pm every night and then it was like pub closing time with everyone returning noisily to the caravans. The showers were always hot, and free, and the pool warm and free though very small and always crowded with kids. Can't imagine how anyone squeezes a caravan around those narrow bendy roads in the area.

This was our first time to Bucklegrove Caravan & Camping Park and had a relaxing 5 days there (well as relaxing as it can be with a 1 year old!).
We were situated in the overflow field to the right of the main site and pitched our tent at the top of the field to give our toddler space to explore, it also gave us fantastic panoramic views across the Somerset Levels to Glastonbury Tor. The field is on a slope so choose your pitch carefully.
We were only a 2 min walk to the toilets/showers and washing up facilities which are all very clean. The showers were nice and hot and there is also a full size bath that can be used in the baby changing room for a £1 charge, this was very handy for bathing our baby.
The shop had only the bare essentials, so a visit to Tesco's in Wells was made (10min drive). The bar had entertainment every night we were there and always seemed busy, the pool was nice and warm. Didn't really fancy the food in the bar so we cooked our own most nights, I can also recommend The Rodney Stoke Arms for food 1/4 mile down the road (really good).
All in all - great location, great views and a nice little campsite.

I find this camp brill its sad that some people book a holiday just to look for faults. The showers are always hot, the pool always warm. The bar opens during the busy times but just in the evenings. I've been to this site loads of times and will be there again in august and October. You always get a lovely welcome from the staff. Yes this camp is not the biggest but its one of the most welcoming I've ever been on - any probs there is always someone to help. Clean shower blocks, clean camp and lots more

I thought this site was terrible. Cold water came out of the showers in the overflow field. No bread/milk/newspaper in the 'well-stocked' shop (opening at 9am!) and this was the first week of high season! Bar was continually shut in the evenings. Pool was lovely and heated, but changing rooms weren't BRRRRRRR! No fun with 2 children under 5 and one baby. And no hot showers(or water of any discription) in there either.
This would be fine if you had your own camper van, but camping and needing hot water forget it!

This was our third visit to Bucklegrove, and have not been disappointed yet. The atmosphere is very friendly and each time it feels like "coming home". The toilet blocks are always very clean and the small site shop sells the essentials. The food served in the club house is excellent value for money, and can also be had as a take-away if you prefer to eat at your pitch. We always have a great time at Buckle grove and we have even booked our next stay there. I thoroughly recommend this very friendly and clean site to all.

We had visited friends in their tourer a few months previously and took to the place straight away. We knew when we booked for the Bank holiday that we would be sited in the overflow field, but on arrival found there to be plenty of room for our two tents plus gazebo thingy. The facilities were always clean and there was enough going on for the grandkids not to get bored. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. We've already booked Bucklegrove for next August. I must remember my binoculars to take in the spectacular south facing views.

Having endured the determined rudeness of staff at another campsite we decided for a change of site in Cheddar. We tried Bucklegrove and were so plesaed we had done so.
The main site was full and as other reviews state they are packed in. We were offered the overflow field which has to be 10x better. Still only a short walk to the facilities and is set with the best view from any campsite in the UK. Although on a hill the slope is gentle you can pick a spot with as much space around as you like. The facilities are clean, people friendly and the pool despite small, was never busy during our 3 days there. There were not more than 8 at any time including ourselves.
We were half way up the filed from the main road and traffic was not a problem. We will be going back.

Smallish site in a beautiful spot, very well kept with hedges, shrubs and well mown pitches. We received a friendly welcome here, the showers/toilets were clean and tidy with plenty of hot water, good dishwashing/food preparation area and good laundry room. Well placed for Wells/Cheddar caves, Wookey Hole and lovely views across Somerset towards Glastonbury Tor. The children enjoyed the small swimming pool, there was a reasonable menu in the bar, although we didn’t try the food, and a small games room with pool table. The shop could have been better stocked, OK for basics, but lots of empty shelves. Will definitely go back for a weekend, however, wouldn’t consider going in high season. It was very quiet when we were there, we had nearly a whole row to ourselves, but the pitches were very small and when the site is full it would definitely be jam packed. Only room on pitch for caravan with awning, no space for the car, this has to go in front, and with the people opposite doing the same there wouldn’t be much space between the cars. Can imagine manoeuvring into place might be a problem when site is full to capacity. Also those pitches opposite the bar area would surely have people using the outside tables looking straight in on them, and can imagine it might be noisy until fairly late. It may not suit you in high season if you value privacy/seclusion, but we thought it was perfect for a quiet weekend or longer off peak.
