This is a large site with very clean toilets and showers with electricity sockets to use hairdryers/straighteners etc. The on-site shops are well stocked with food and camping extras. The local pub has very good food at good prices. The views were outstanding. The owners are very helpful and friendly.
I found the site O.K. And not much more. I do not have kids and I am not into fishing, what was left was very average. Shower block only cleaned once a day with press taps that only stay on for a couple of seconds (really frustrating) A club house with decent entertainment for all but found the food tasteless and not a patch on anything in the surroundings. Plenty of space to pitch close or far from others on mostly flat good ground that was it. For £20 a night I would expect a lot more O.K there is a pool which looked nice but crowded with screaming kids having fun, you would not be able to swim and the beach close by is stony and not one of the best around. Other sites within 10 miles that charge the same are a lot more value for your money and nicer with great security. So I would personally say good for kids and keen fishing people (not amazing) otherwise sorry but very average and over priced. We are a fairly young couple who did love the area and will be 100% returning to the beautiful dramatic coastline but not this site. I hope this is helpful and you find true to the point that is certainly not a complaint
Enjoyed our stay although far too many people there for the hot water system to handle, therefore cold showers all round but on an average week or weekend I would assume there would be no problems. We stayed over the August bank holiday!
Toilets and showers could of done with 2 cleans a day as there were so many of us.
Not so sure they have any set prices as we spoke to them on the phone about a week before going and said it was £12 per night and £75 a week, unable to book just turn up to see if anything available.
From what I was hearing from people they were staying at all sorts of times varying from 2 nights to a week and the prices did vary an awful lot!
Overall enjoyed the stay, very accessible to Weymouth and very cheap taxi's. Loved the atmosphere ! Would def go again.
Lovely site. We went there for 5 days, with 3 children (aged 7,9,13) and a dog. Cost £20 a night, plus £2 each for dog and pup tent. Gazebo's also cost (£3, I think). This meant free use of facilities- lovely outdoor pool and kid pool. Also restaurant for breakfast and other meals, bar, entertainment etc. Site hilly, but with flat areas. Great wind breaks of mature trees and bushes. Very well used on Monday night, when we had HEAVY wind and rain. Many small tents, and caterpillar type tents flattened, but I think wind break saved us! Lovely shower block, with good washing sinks and laundry. Upper wash block nicer than lower one, in my opinion. Good shop (we needed to replace a guy, and it was only £3 or £4 for a pack of 4 guys) Can get freezer blocks here for £1 deposit plus 20p per block to be frozen. Good water sites, with rubbish area. Located regularly throughout site
Separate site for static caravans, reached over small road. Swimming pool etc near this site. Lots in surrounding area. Great pub 5 mins walk (The smugglers- about £58 for meal of 4 main, one starter, 4 puds and 4 drinks) really nice food. Great play area for nice days! Beach by Smugglers Pub reached by rocky, steep path. Not a beach to sit and play on with kids, but nice to visit for dog walk, or after trip to pub! Weymouth allows dogs on beaches, but not in center, we went on lovely beach near sea life center, with dog. Durdle door has nice bay and beach, Lulworth cove not great for beach, but does have nice cream teas! Abbotsbury has swan center (£30ish though for us 5!), but lovely dog walks from village.
I'd recommend the site, and we plan to visit again- taking a kite this time, as lots of people flew kites in camping field!
Just stayed a long weekend here and what a great site. Was worried at first that it would feel like a holiday park as it has statics, swimming pool, clubhouse etc but couldn't be further from the truth - camping section is on a number of fields going uphill from main area and totally separate and very peaceful.The camping reception was shut and it wasn't very clear where we had to go to pay (and if it would be open at 7pm when we arrived) but we were told by other campers that someone would come round in the morning to take money, which they did.
We pitched in the top field with some great sea views but there was plenty of space in all the fields. There are some flat, sheltered sections (without views) but most slope a little - worth it to have views though. The toilets and showers nearest to us were new and spotless. The showers were free and hot (a little too hot for some maybe - you couldn't control the temp and I heard a few comments while I was in there from those with sunburn!). Be warned ladies there is no hairdryer - which is unusual for a modern shower block. There are sockets to plug in your own though.
We went in the site bar on Saturday night for one drink and found a small disco going on (not too noisy though) and friendly staff. Pool looked nice but we didn't go in. The pub down the road (Smugglers Inn) is a busy food pub, very popular. We ate in there Sunday night and it was nice modern pub food.
The coast path runs right past the bottom of the site so ideal for walkers - within a mile or so you can walk to a great beach (small pebbles rather than sand) away from the crowds and perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach near the site is rocky and not ideal for families etc.
All in all a great site in a lovely location - we will definitely return!
I have just come back from Osmington Mills, and I will definitely go back. The views are lovely looking over osmington bay. The site is clean and tidy. We went during a wet week and the ground stood up well, its got good drainage and being on a hill helps. We stayed for the whole week and found that there was plenty to do in the surrounding area and like other reviewers you dont feel like your missing out if you stay on site for the day. My boyfriend went fishing twice, the fish are in beautiful condition and are a challenge to catch, the weed is a minor problem but if fished with care you get some fantastic results! (tip - if you go after 4pm you only have to pay £4) The swimming pool is heated, clean and in a nice enclosed field. We tried the smugglers inn out - its a refreshing water hole after a stroll along the coast! The Sunray in osmington is well worth a visit for a meal, the beer is expensive but the portions of food are fantastic. The decor is very good with two beer gardens. Weymouth is also good with a sea life centre, cinema, lots of bars and plenty of shops.
A small group of us went to osmington mills for 4 nights. It was a very nice site and facilities were excellent. I have read some of the other reviews and don't think that they went to the same place. I found the food in the club house excellent, and the site staff exceedingly friendly. Myself and my family look forward to returning there in the upcoming weeks.
Well first time me and my partner have been away and actually seen the sun. This was our second time back to this site and certainly won't be our last. We arrived before the crowds and got a lovely spot at top of the field, it was on slop but watching your cup slide down the table adds a bit of fun to the holiday. View from up there is brilliant and was able to watch sunset and an amazing moon over the sea. Top toilet blocks are very good and all have electric points which is good for someone who likes to get back to nature but still has their hair looking half decent. Went to campsite club for first time and enjoyed watching world cup although it was disrupted by the evening youngsters singing entertainment. Campsite is a brilliant base for exploring rest of dorset and even if you are feeling lazy you can quite easily stay at campsite and not get bored due to spectacular views.
Visited here for four nights at beginning of school holidays. Arrived on Wednesday and although the site was quite full had a slight problem finding somewhere to pitch, the reason being it is on a hill and not all of it is flat. Plenty of the site is flat though. Got very busy over the weekend, found it very amusing to try and guess where people would pitch next. Site operates a pitch where you like policy . Although no one seemed to be that close to neighbors. Two sets of toilets / showers, top set seem nicer, as they have more space in the showers to change after and also somewhere to place clothes, while showering. Staff friendly and helpful during our stay. One point to make is that during high season if you are paying balance by card, then you need to go the main shop to pay, only cash accepted at the camp shop. Pool very nice, esp as we had hot weather. Lifeguard friendly and not afraid to throw trouble makers out, which was reassuring. Pub/club again no problems although we did have trouble finding a seat on the one night it rained! Didn't try their food so can't comment. Took a stroll to the beach, only access we found was down a very steep path behind the Smugglers Inn( a very nice pub). Rocky beach but loads of rock pool to explore. We ( 2 adults & 4 kids 7,10,10 &13) had a lovely time and defiantly plan to return
Just returned from this campsite after spending 5 nights here. Absolutely stunning views out to sea, great site, on a slope but great to pitch a tent, they also allow motor homes. There are three fields to pitch in the better one being the middle field, but we pitched in the lower field, away from the toilet blocks but closer to the clubhouse and shop and swimming pool.
The fields are trimmed and tidy, but I found it very hard to bang in the pegs! also on a bit of a slope which was annoying when you put your tea down and it slides off the table! there are flat bits too! (the site was busy so had limited choice of spaces).
The site is very spread out, giving you plenty of room, the didn't overcrowd the place and were turning people away even though they could have crammed in loads more.
There are two toilet and shower blocks, one of them nice modern and very clean, the other old and smelly, but still OK! both having nice hot water, and even when the site was full, not really a queue.
There are two shops, one at the top of the site, and one at the bottom, both selling pretty much the same things, well stocked with essentials, including camping gaz (904, 907 etc) and most camping essentials, they sell cigarettes papers sweets toys etc, but not alcohol.
The swimming pool was great, its outdoor, but a nice size, not too big not too small, heated and clean, with guard, and toddlers paddling pool, the main pool is 8ft deep at the deep end, brilliant for the kids if you don't want to go to the beach. There is also a bar / club / pub style place! low key entertainment, but its fairly good, nothing like pontins, but the kids loved it very much. Reasonable drinks prices, with a good selection, the food was overpriced and not very appealing, we chose to eat at the smugglers inn pub, just down the road, they do nice food reasonably priced with a small children's menu. The pub has beautiful settings with views out to sea from the car park and a children's secure playground.
Beach wise, the only beach that was good for us was Weymouth, because the other beaches near Osmington had shingle, and a steep drop to get to them! Weymouth was lovely, but we found parking was a problem so get there early. Other places around are Portland, Swanage, oh and the monkey world park is a must for adults and kids, we were amazed by these beautiful animals, a fantastic day out, highly recommended.
So there you have it, I went camping to this park with 4 children, aged 10 3 and 2. They loved it, I loved, and will definitely be going back! Hope my review helps you choose, sorry for babbling on! yeah definitely 10/10.
Looking for a base to visit Monkey World & Durdle Door. Last minute arrival as planned site was full. Very disorganised - poor signage when we arrived and had to go wandering around to pay. £16 a night for a 2 person sloping pitch with no power seems a wee bit on the expensive side compared to other sites around. The ground was very stony and we struggled to get pegs in without bending them all. The pitch where you want may be great when its not so busy but caused confusion and many people seemed to taking the mick on how much space they were taking up. Seems to be very popular with the young / 1st holiday away from home brigade who were allowed to party into the small hours. TV in bar that seemed to be more for the staff than guests, later on bar became over run with the regulars that have statics on the other side so we left and had an early night. Shop didn't open until 8:30am but with fair prices and a good range. Shower blocks busy, well lit but could do with extra cleaning during a busy weekend. Beach not very suitable for families, Would recommend stopping off at the smugglers on the way back up - food was a long wait but worth it. - Seems to be a very relaxed camp all round. Got us out of a hole but wouldn't rush back.
August 2005 I have just returned from a weeks stay. It was a good site and I was told that the toilet block on the top field had been newly built this year. One of the reasons I chose to stay here was the fishing lake on site. It was a little disapointing as you have to carry your gear down quite a long hill as there is no access for cars. The lake doesn't have very many 'swims' and was busy most of the time I was there. It is also has a large amount of weeds / hazards so make sure you have heavy line on your rod. Saying that there were some nice carp caught up to 20lbs, but a few fishermen had lines broke due to the weeds.
We camped on the top field which was quieter than the bottom field, but the bottom field did seem to catch the sun a bit later into the evening than the top. When we booked we were told that we would have to stay for a minimum of seven nights, when we arrived we found that people were arriving and staying for one night except for the weekend when it was a minimum of two! I would go back as the site has lovely views out to sea. The club house was more like a 'pub' than a club which suited us, but if your looking for full on entertainment you'd probably be better off at the Haven site down the road at Weymouth.
August 2005 This was our first camping trip as a family (children aged 1.5 and 3.5). As we are definitely "fair weather" campers we waited until Thursday to book. The very friendly lady on the phone told us that there was no need to book and we took a chance, she did say to try and arrive as early as possible. We arrived at 1:30pm on the Friday and there were loads of spots to choose from. Just drive in and pick a spot. The nice gentleman at the shop, informed us the top field was the quieter "family" end (slightly sloping) and the lower field was the more boisterous "younger" end. I popped to the loo I (as you do!) and was really impressed by the well kept, modern, clean facilities with powerpoints for hairdryers etc. I've stayed in Travel Lodges with less swish facilities, and all for £18 per night. We noticed at 7pm an influx of cars and tents, and the top field began to get busy. On Saturday morning the camp looked chaotic but the toilets and washing-up facilities were more than adequate and I only had to queue for a few minutes for a shower.We did notice a sign saying "SITE FULL" and cars were being turned away instead of maximising their revenue. The shops were well stocked, (ice pack exchange for 20p), a swimming pool, onsite bar, restaurant (with a takeaway service), Laundry Room and plenty of water points and bins. Nice looking pub at the end of the lane and access to the beach. All in all a very succesful first trip and we would most definitely go again and recommend this to our friends.
May 2005 Brilliant. We have been camping for 19 years and stayed at many sites, loved this one. Site on a bit of a slope but not a problem for tents. Fab views of sea and coast.
New shower, toilet and covered dishwashing block at top of site, very modern and kept clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. On site shop for basic needs, further site on main holiday site next door. Use of heated outdoor pool and grounds - spotless.
Camp field near top where we camped quiet despite being almost full for bank hol weekend. Didn't use the entertainment club as we don't camp for that but seemed very good.
Playground old and basic but our three children - 12, 10 and 4 loved it. Smugglers Inn pub at bottom of lane is an added bonus, quaint and well worth a visit either for a drink or a meal - great food.
August 2004 We arrived on monday morning and had quite a good choice of pitch, so no need to book. Although it did start to get busy on friday afternoon/evening ready for the weekend rush. We camped on the middle field near to newest toilet block. These were very clean, but there were only four showers, which got very busy, especially at the weekend. The older toilets on the top field were also clean, but still only three showers!
Open air pool was good, but the toilets weren't brilliant there. Club was ok, but the childerns entertainment was pretty much non-existant! The 'Smugglers Inn' was very pretty and had childs play area. And great views of the bay from close by. Two on site shops seemed to sell every thing you could need. All in all, a very clean, well kept site, but more showers and kids stuff required.
