 Love it love it love it. Have been twice this year once with group of friends and once with another couple. The children loved being near the river and collecting fresh eggs from the chickens.
The facilities were good and always clean and the couple that own the site are lovely and really helpful. Really felt like we had got away from it all. Will definitely be back next year.

We came in a group of 5 families for 2 little girls' 5th birthdays. We had to book in advance and were told that the campsite was fully booked, but we had plenty of room in the '2nd' field (no electricity) although the other field did look a bit cramped. We had lots of room for our kids to play & have their own sports day. The campsite was lively during the day but quiet at night.
The campsite is in a lovely location, by the river, although several of us got bitten to death one night by the midges, so take lots of repellent!
A couple of pubs within walking distance were sampled by the dads & given the thumbs up. We used the mobile shop which visited each day for bread, milk & newspapers. Showers were busy, but clean and the ladies were stocked with nice handwash & hand cream and even a socket for hairdrier or straighteners!
After working hard all week this idyllic spot was a welcome treat.
We visited Burnsall on the way back for a lovely father's day Sunday lunch at the Red Lion too!

Really disappointed with this site where we stayed for 5 nights. Owner was quite rude when we arrived and asked us not to use half of the pitch assigned to us as it needed a rest from being used a few days previous. This meant we could not pitch our hartford l, for it was too large. Another caravanner had also parked their car on our pitch and were not in to move it. We were not offered another pitch.
Caravanners however seemed to get preferential treatment even able to pitch awning over a bit we were told not too! On the subject of pitches, tents and caravans were packed really really tightly with one backpaker practically pitching between our guy ropes!
The weather was atrocious when we were there and the field really suffered. The roads became like rivers and the field got really boggy - not even a dry track to the toilets.
Toilets were always clean (3 toilets and sinks). Soap and dryer included. 6? showers and a family shower room. We had to wait for the family room on 2 occasions - both times being occupied by a single person! Showers not very powerful but always warm. There is an under cover dish wash area. They are very keen on recycling and provide pails for this. Also provide racks for disposable bbq. A small selection of tourist info available.
Great bank for climbing on the other side of the road and a lovely walk by the river. Both great for kids but would need supervision in my opinion. A huge field next to the site for ball games but children were still playing tennis, football etc on the road around the site - damaging my car on one occasion. The field also hosted a local cricket match on the Wednesday night!
The village has a church and 2 pubs (no shop). We ate at the New Inn twice and the service and food was fantastic. Pie night on Wed and steak night on Friday. Open all day. The road past the site was quite busy - not quite the quiet location we thought.
The shop in a van came every morning between 8 and 9 and stocked a good range of things.
The site does have a lot of rules but they do not seem to be enforced. We had a small dog come into a tent twice in our visit even though rules stated that dogs should be on leads - turned out it was owners dog.
We paid £16 a night which we thought was expensive for the standard and quality of the site.
Oh and take something that keeps midges away. They were rampant from early evening onwards.
Try Bolton Abbey, Bolton and Embsay steam train, Skipton and the castle and great fish and chips at Bizzies in skipton,
This site is ideal for walking or cycling with beautiful country side. It just wasn't for us!

We booked this last minute - my mum was staying at the Eshton Road site in Gargrave and we needed somewhere close as their site was full. I called Masons on a Friday morning for arrival Friday night and they managed to accommodate us. The road in was a bit hairy - not very wide and we were praying we wouldn't meet another car, let alone a caravan!
We didn't like the site but it had had nothing to do with the staff, who were really helpful.
We were eaten alive by midges the moment we opened the car door and there was no break from them! We were on a sloping pitch meant for tents really, the power supply was too far away for our lead and we had to phone my mum to come from Gargrave with a spare as we didn't have one and there was no shop on site.
Kids were sliding down the steep hill opposite the site on dinghies and having a whale of a time well past dark - which was lovely but we needed sleep and our toddler was kept awake by the noise. That abated eventually just as the crowds returned from the nearby pubs, so we had another half hour of loud noise.
This is just our own experience. We aren't old stick in the muds, we just wanted a relaxing weekend. This site was busy, noisy and full of kids which is brilliant if that's what you're after and I'm sure we'd love it if our little one was a bit older.
We had a fantastic day out in Skipton on the Saturday which made up for it by far.
The toilets and showers were basic but fine. The river is really close and ideal for families. All round a nice site but the midges and noise meant that we'll choose somewhere different next time!

This is a site with as great location. Whilst the site itself is pretty devoid of any features or facilities (it's a rectangular field), what surrounds it is wonderful. The river at the bottom of the site has got rope swings, plenty of boulders and rocks to climb over and if you journey to the right along the river (we didn't go left!). There's an accessible path along the river to Burnsall. When we were there the lambs were in abundance. All in all a great place.
If you're looking for a site that entertains you then you'll probably need to go elsewhere. We got the impression that the character of the place is very much determined by the people who live within the rectangular field, because there is not much more unless you journey out. The owner was friendly and the facilities basic but clean. Our gripe was price - a little on the steep side for what's there.

Lovely site. Very picturesque. Owners were very welcoming & helpful. The field was rather boggy when we arrived but when the rain stopped it dried up really quickly. The riverbank walk was easy & there were plenty of children paddling when the sun shone. The New Inn up the road serves great food & cask ales in a welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

This campsite is great, especially if you want a basic site with EHU, good toilet, shower and washing up facilities and friendly owners.
We stayed for three nights over the Easter weekend, so it was busy, the facilities coped though, never had to wait for a shower and the hot water didn’t run out until well into mid-morning (we didn’t use them until late one morning) and to address some comments from other reviewers, they now have hand driers in the toilets!
The shopping van still visits each morning from Burnsall and sells the basics; bread, milk, eggs, bacon, BBQ meat, sweets etc. We ate in The Craven Inn on the Sunday; had a lovely roast beef dinner, and the service was fantastic, it’s a 2 minute walk from the site, as is another pub (The New Inn) that’s also supposed to be good, though we didn’t try it.
The site’s well located for all the sights in the area (Bolton Abbey, Malham Cove, Parceval Gardens, Skipton Castle and Market). It did get a little muddy on our first day there, but you can’t expect anything else in the Dales and as soon as the sun came out it all dried out fine. The pitches are generous and well drained and the water tap’s centrally located so you don’t have to walk far. The river at the bottom of the site also has a nice walk alongside it.
The owners were very helpful, especially when we needed to find somewhere to replace a knackered tyre on our car on Easter Sunday, the owner got on the internet and got us a list of numbers to try.

The owners were very welcomming and friendly giving me advice on were to visit etc. They helped me manover my trailer tent to get the best spot on my pitch due to the site being like Glastonbury MUDDY(not their fault but the weather). Me and my two kids loved the site though and will be visiting it again this year.
The river is a stroll away which kept the kids busy. The two pubs are another stroll away from the campsite which kept me busy.
Toilet and showers clean considering the mud! no queues.
There is a man in a van who visites the site daily selling newspapers, bread, sweets and cakes etc.
I don't want to sell this site too much as I want a pitch again this year and don't want it over booked! I'm looking forward to visiting it again.

Used this site whilst walking the Dales Way on a midweek day in September. The site was relatively quiet when I stayed so no queues for anything and facilities were excellent. The morning visit by the provisions van was really useful for a walker. I was charged the £5 advertised for a hiker (unlike a previous reviewer). Good food at the New Inn in the village.

Slightly disappointed with this one, but appreciate that this might not be a fair reflection - it's what I found.
Hikers pay £10 and not the £5 as advertised on the web. Site was clean, facilities were good and the welcome was pleasant, but with a group playing music late into the night I was glad that I was exhausted because they would have been a pain otherwise !
Owner points you in the direction of the Craven Arms - walk another 100m and the New Inn serves better food with much better service, or turn left for a 10 minute walk to the Red Lion in Burnsall
Great location though.

Visited Mason's Camp Site for the first time during the weeks following the Bank Holiday weekend. We are a family of four and stayed for 4 nights. We found the site excellent as described, a small friendly site. We expected the site to be wet due to poor weather and yes it was wet and muddy, but hey what do else should you expect from the dales when it's been wet for weeks! Anyway the children loved the mud!
We found the toilets and showers good, no queue's and clean. As other have said a dryer or paper towels in the toliets would be good. The location great for walking, touring, visiting places like Grassington and Skipton. The local pubs are great in the village especially the New Inn, great food!
We hope to visit again, give it a try if you want low key, small scale, friendly camping, with realistic rules!

A group of 16 of us visited masons campsite on the bank hol for 3 nights. We all had a great time. We were in the overspill field which we felt was better than the main field, we were able to pitch where we wished and there was plenty of space between other campers. Toilets were clean and stocked well with both toilet rolls and hand wash. The only downfall was there were no paper hand towels or dryers. The washing area was adequate but sometimes ran out of hot water but our husbands managed cleaning the pots while we drank.
We did some wonderful walking and the children managed a 6 mile walk over fields.
The pubs were ok for a drink. We booked a meal at the new inn but were disappointed with the service. I wouldn't recommend it for service but if you don't mind the wait and grumpy staff food is good. The craven arms food looked good too we will try there next time.

A busy campsite but the toilets and showers coped well with the amount of people and were always clean. Our main problem was the rain and when it stopped raining the midges came out to eat us alive! So we were forced to take refuge in the two nice pubs within walking distance and buy very fetching 'midgie nets' and DEET.
So go prepared! Then you can enjoy the beautiful countryside and visit some of my favourite places , Bolton Abbey, The Strid , Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Skipton.

We went in early August and had a belting stay at this site ( the hottest weekend of the year played its part ! ) The sites main field was full but with a large overspill field next door didn't feel cramped at all. The showers weren't the most modern but adequate and clean with no waiting around if you were in early enough. The washing up sinks were the only place I had to wait in line for.
A van came on site twice a day with the usual bread, eggs, milk and papers and also tiddler nets for the kids to go fishing with in the Warfe at the bottom of the field.
A lovely 6 mile walk along the river leads to Grassington with its shops, pubs and cafes, return via bus makes a grand day out. 5 minutes from the site are 2 belting pubs with good food and great real ale. Highly recommended.

Just returned from a three night stay at Mason's. If the site was that which is shown on the Home web page (around the horse-shoe road) then the facilities were adequate. However, that is not the case as an adjoining field is used if you don't require electric hook-up, rendering the facilities woefully inadequate with queues at all washing and toilet facilities and water supplies drying up.
The on-site cockerels added further discomfort at 3.30am after a day's walking up Pen+y+Ghent or down to Bolton Abbey. Restful. I need a holiday! On the plus, fantastic area, superb local pub - New Inn, serving meals some restaurants would kill for.
